Egyptian Lodge , No . 27 . —The members of this Lodge met on Thursday , the 4 th inst ., at Anderton's Hotel , Fleet-street . The W . M . Bro . T . J . Maidwell was assisted by his Officers : —Wm . Richards S . W ., H . G . Buss P . M . G . A . S . Treas ., J B . Poole Sec , J . II . Coulson S . D ., J . H . Kemp J . D ., C . Cuthbertson I . G ., Grammer D . C . ; P . M . ' s Bros . J . Walker , C . Atkins , Hoare , Green , Sillis , C . B . Payne ; also

Visitors Bros . W . H . G . Rudderforth J . D . 12 , Wharman P . M . 15 , W . W . Morgan 211 , H . F . Browne 731 , Ginder 1499 , J . Smeatun 1598 . On the assembly of tho brethren , Bro . Maidwell opened his Lodge , ancl minutes of last meeting wero read ancl received dno confirmation . Tho W . M . then opened up his Lodge , aud proceeded with the ceremonial part of his duties . This consisted of tho passing of Bro .

James Jones , and the raising of Bro . J . Ulmann . The ballot box Avas then passed round , and tho W . M . announced that Mr . Comyns William Lateward Berkeley had successfully passed tho ordeal This gentleman was then introduced , and the ceremony of initiation Avas performed ; Bro . MaidAvell doing his work , as ho had also done in tho two previous instances , in a manner eminently satisfactory ,

and creating a deep impression on the candidate . Tho election lor Brother Henry Frederick Browne , of Arboretum Lodgo , No . 731 , resulted in his being admitted a joining member . The W . M . announced that Bro . Walker P . M . had signified his intention to servo as a Steward for the approaching Festival of tho Royal Masonic Institution for Boys . It Avas proposed that the sum of ton guineas

bo placed on his list from the funds of tho Lodgo . This Avas ably discussed , many of the members expressing a desiro that the amount should bo increased to twenty guineas . Eventually , hoAvever , a compromise was effected , and fifteen guineas was ordered to bo placed on the list of Bro . Walker . Tho Committee of the Benevolent Fund then presented their Report . This

showed most satisfactory results , and a substantial balance on the credit side . Some proposed alterations in the by-laws governing this Fund wero considered and adopted . Tho Lodge Avas then closed . At tho banquet which followed , and which was capitally served , under the personal superintendence of Bros . Robert ancl Frank ClemoAV , tho W . M . presided . On the removal of tho cloth ,

tho toasts were briefly introduced and fnll hononr was paid . In responding for the Pro G . M ., tho D . G . M ., ancl tho rest of the Grand Officers , Bro . Buss Grand Assistant Secretary , after acknowledging the compliment , remarked that Ave never yet had , at tho head of affairs , more energetic brethren than those Avho held office as the rulers of the Order . No labour was too arduous for Lord Carnarvon , and he

spared neither time nor influence to advance tho interests of Freemasonry . He was ably seconded by Lord Skelmersdale , who was perhaps better knoAvn in his own province ; at the same time , no one could be moro appreciated wherever he was known . He thanked tho brethren for having associated his name Avith the toast . The W . M . next gave tho health of tho Visitors , and called on Bros .

W . W . Morgan ancl W . II . G . Rudderforth to respond . After these brethren had acknowledged the compliment paid them , Bro . Maid-Avell proposed tho health of the Initiate , and Bro . Berkeley roso to reply . He sincerely thanked the members for having admitted him into their ranks . He had been induced to join Freemasonry from an intimate knowledge of men who Avero distinguished in the

Order , Avhom ho respected and esteemed for their sterling qualities . He Avould exert himself to bo a good Mason , and trusted he might never have cause to regret tho step ho had that night taken . On Bro . Walker devolved tho task of proposing the health of tho W . M . ; this ho did in most felicitous terms , pay . ing a just tribute to the capabilities displayed by Bro .

Maidwell . After a very humourous song , Bro . Maidwell roso . Ho could not agree with all Bro . Walker had said ; he certainly could not endorse tho remark that that brother as I . P . M . had not been missed ; individually , he knew better ; he had felt tho absence of Bro . Walker . Ho was gratified by tho many kind words expressed . Before resuming his seat , however , he wonld propose the health of

the Past Masters of tho Lodgo . They were a numerous body—fifteen ho thought they could muster—and there were very few Lodges Avho could boast moro . Ho called attention to the satisfactory condition of their Benevolent Fund , Avhich would stand as an evidence of what the P . M . ' s of the Egyptian Lodge had achieved . Bro . Walker replied to the toast . He regretted the W . M . had not associated other names

with his . However , ho could say this , the P . M . ' s of tho Egyptian Lodge Avere full of loyalty to their Lodge . Each and every one Avas ready ancl willing at all times to help the W . M . Bro . Walker then referred to his StcAvardship . The members of his Lodge bad subscribed liberally , but be should not be content Avith what he had already been promised . They would have another

meeting previous to tho Festival , and then ho intended to tax them further . The other toasts comprised the health of tho Treasurer and the Secretary ; tho Joining Member ; the Officers ; and tho several replies wero concise and well to the point . Tho W . M . then called the Tyler , who brought the proceedings to a closo . Somo capital songs and recitations were given dnring the evening , ancl all strove to make the meeting a pleasant one .

Leins seconded a motion , that it

bo entered on the minutes . The death of Bro . Lynch , a member of fcho Lodge , only 32 years of age , Avas announced , and it Avas agreed thafc a letter of condolence be sent to his sorroAving family . A committee Avas appointed to make arrangements for the summer banquet . The Lodge was then closed until tho fourth Tuesday in Juno , and tho brethren , 101 in number , sat down to banquet and dessert provided

by Bros . Hitter and Clifford . Graco having been said , the W . M . briefly and iu appropriate terms proposed the routine toasts . After the health of Her Majesty , the National Anthem was sung . Bro . C . Daniel I . P . M . proposed the health of tho W . M ., which was received with lond and prolonged cheering , evidently showing tho brethren had made an excellent selection . Tho manner in which Bro . Brown

had conducted the duties of the chair testified thoy had the right man intherightplace . He ( Bro . Daniel ) hadplacedhiminoffice , and feltproud of him . The AV . M . thanked the brethren for thoir kind expressions . Ho hoped at the expiration of his year of office the same words would bo as kindly spoken , ancl that he should realise the anticipations formed of him . Tho W . M . next gave tho toast of the initiate . The

members were pleased to havo him among them , and trusted ho would never regret his entrance into Freemasonry . Bro . Matthews responded ; he spoko of the impressive ceremony , Avhich he hoped would never be effaced from his memory . He trusted in future to bo a good Mason , ancl to deserve the kind words spoken of him by the W . M . Tho health of tho Visitors came next . They were so

distinguished in the Craft and so numerous that he could not particularise their several qualifications . Bro . Wesfc and Bro . H . M . Levy , Past Master 1 SS , responded , each referred to the excellent presidency of the Worshipful Master , and the admirable manner in which the ceremony had been rendered by Bro . Daniel , and tho perfect working of the installation ceremony by Bro . Leins .

In proposing tho health of the Immediate P . M ., Bro . Daniel , who had so Avell performed tho duties of tho chair during the past year , the W . M . said the brethren did not only thank him in words , but showed their appreciation and respect by presenting him Avith a jewel j also a special illuminated address on vellum , a clock , two tazzas , and a gold Avatch , which they asked him to accept for Mrs . Daniel ,

in token of his eminent services—iu Avhich she had shown so lively an interest—during his year of office . This was a jnst tribute , and he trusted the worthy lady might look with pride on this recognition that her husband ' s services were so appreciated , not only by his Lodge , but by his private friends . Bro . Daniel rose , and was loudly cheered ; when silence was restored , he said he felt unequal

adequately to return his thanks ; he owed them a debt of gratitude for their kindness , and ho felt at a loss for Avords . He trusted he had gained their esteem . He would bo pleased to wear tho jeAvel as a mark of their regard . The address would be appreciated by his family , who Avould look on it Avith pride . The presentation to his wife , of a watch , was most gratifying to him .

She had been present at several of their Festivals , and Avas Avith him , heart and soul to advance the cause of Freemasonry , ancl aid its Charities . Bro . Daniel then referred to the several gifts with which he had been presented , and expressed his gratification at receiving such tangible marks of their regard . Before resuming his seat ho

would call on them to drink to tho health and prosperity of the Installing Master , Bro . Leins , whoso services were always at their request , and wero at all times thoroughly appreciated aud valued b y the brethren . Bro . Leins had performed tho Installation ceremony in au admirable manner , and to the satisfaction of all present , aud ho trusted he might be spared , and havo health to be with them for

many years to come . Bro . Leins returned thanks ; the I . P . M . was in every way competent to perform the ceremony ; at the same time he was gratified thafc the task had devolved ou him ; his heart and sympathies are , ancl always were , with the Lodgo of Prosperity . Tho toast of the Past Masters was next given , and Bro . Arnold responded . This was followed by prosperity to the Masonic Charities . The W . M .

felt great pleasure in seeing Bro . James Terry , Sec . R . M . B . I ., also Bro . C . Daniel , Avho is a Steward for the Girls' School . Bro . Daniel said ho had great pleasure in serving as Steward ; np to tho present time he had . C 72 on his list , whieh ho hoped would bo increased . Ho fully realised the claims of the R . M . B . I . ; as AVO grow older , we seo many of tho aged who require assistance . He had supported tho various Charities , and would do so again . Bro . Terry followed ; ho

could not refrain from thanking the Lodgo for all they had done for the Masonic Chanties . Sixteen years ago things were very different from what thoy now were ; to-night they had had a sumptuous banquet ; as the Lodge had progressed , so had the members given to tho Charities . The Girls' School had afc times been in debt ; the Boys' School had always been in debt ; while tho Bene . volcnt Institution had jnst sustained a heavy loss . If he might be allowed to make a suggestion , it would be that every brother

members were pleased to havo him among them , and trusted ho would never regret his entrance into Freemasonry . Bro . Matthews responded ; he spoko of the impressive ceremony , Avhich he hoped would never be effaced from his memory . He trusted in future to bo a good Mason , ancl to deserve the kind words spoken of him by the W . M . Tho health of tho Visitors came next . They were so

distinguished in the Craft and so numerous that he could not particularise their several qualifications . Bro . Wesfc and Bro . H . M . Levy , Past Master 1 SS , responded , each referred to the excellent presidency of the Worshipful Master , and the admirable manner in which the ceremony had been rendered by Bro . Daniel , and tho perfect working of the installation ceremony by Bro . Leins .

In proposing tho health of the Immediate P . M ., Bro . Daniel , who had so Avell performed tho duties of tho chair during the past year , the W . M . said the brethren did not only thank him in words , but showed their appreciation and respect by presenting him Avith a jewel j also a special illuminated address on vellum , a clock , two tazzas , and a gold Avatch , which they asked him to accept for Mrs . Daniel ,

in token of his eminent services—iu Avhich she had shown so lively an interest—during his year of office . This was a jnst tribute , and he trusted the worthy lady might look with pride on this recognition that her husband ' s services were so appreciated , not only by his Lodge , but by his private friends . Bro . Daniel rose , and was loudly cheered ; when silence was restored , he said he felt unequal

adequately to return his thanks ; he owed them a debt of gratitude for their kindness , and ho felt at a loss for Avords . He trusted he had gained their esteem . He would bo pleased to wear tho jeAvel as a mark of their regard . The address would be appreciated by his family , who Avould look on it Avith pride . The presentation to his wife , of a watch , was most gratifying to him .

She had been present at several of their Festivals , and Avas Avith him , heart and soul to advance the cause of Freemasonry , ancl aid its Charities . Bro . Daniel then referred to the several gifts with which he had been presented , and expressed his gratification at receiving such tangible marks of their regard . Before resuming his seat ho

would call on them to drink to tho health and prosperity of the Installing Master , Bro . Leins , whoso services were always at their request , and wero at all times thoroughly appreciated aud valued b y the brethren . Bro . Leins had performed tho Installation ceremony in au admirable manner , and to the satisfaction of all present , aud ho trusted he might be spared , and havo health to be with them for

many years to come . Bro . Leins returned thanks ; the I . P . M . was in every way competent to perform the ceremony ; at the same time he was gratified thafc the task had devolved ou him ; his heart and sympathies are , ancl always were , with the Lodgo of Prosperity . Tho toast of the Past Masters was next given , and Bro . Arnold responded . This was followed by prosperity to the Masonic Charities . The W . M .

felt great pleasure in seeing Bro . James Terry , Sec . R . M . B . I ., also Bro . C . Daniel , Avho is a Steward for the Girls' School . Bro . Daniel said ho had great pleasure in serving as Steward ; np to tho present time he had . C 72 on his list , whieh ho hoped would bo increased . Ho fully realised the claims of the R . M . B . I . ; as AVO grow older , we seo many of tho aged who require assistance . He had supported tho various Charities , and would do so again . Bro . Terry followed ; ho

could not refrain from thanking the Lodgo for all they had done for the Masonic Chanties . Sixteen years ago things were very different from what thoy now were ; to-night they had had a sumptuous banquet ; as the Lodge had progressed , so had the members given to tho Charities . The Girls' School had afc times been in debt ; the Boys' School had always been in debt ; while tho Bene . volcnt Institution had jnst sustained a heavy loss . If he might be allowed to make a suggestion , it would be that every brother
