Upton Lodge of Instruction , No . 1227 . —The second annual supper of this thriving young Lodgo was held ou Thursday , the 28 th ult ., at Bros . Bolton and Lane's , King and Queen , Norton Folgato . Bro . Brown , W . M . of tho Mother Lodgo , occupied the post of honour . Bro . A . W . Fonner , tho Preceptor of the Lodgo of In . strnction , as S . W ., Bro . Townsend filling the J . W . chair ; there Avas
a goodly muster of brethren , some twenty-eight being present , amongst them being Bro . Renter P . M . P . G . D . C . Kent , and several other eminent brethren , as also several visitors . After tho supper , which was dono ample justice to , the W . M . proposed tho usual toasts . Tho W . M ., in a short but happy speech , gave tho Visitors , to which they severally replied . The toast of the evening was then proposed ,
—Success to tho Upton Lodge of Instruction—which was drunk with great cordiality , and Bro . Fenner briefly replied ; ho referred to tho continued progress of tho Lodge of Instruction , which ho hoped would in time become ono of bhe besb abtended in London . Tho health of tho Officers Avas proposed , and fully honoured . Bro . Fencer proposed tho health of the W . M . of the Mother Lodge , remarking he
AA-as glad to havo his services as Chairman for the evening . Ho felt that Lodges of Instruction ought to receive tho co-operation of their Mother Lodges to ensure their success ; to this the W . ' s jewel should be voted to tha retiring W . M . met with universal approval . Lodge was then closed , and tho brethren adjourned to supper , which was served by Bro . Fysh in a very excellent manner . The viands wero done ample justice to . Grace having been said , the cloth was removed , and tho
usual loyal toasts Avero proposed aud responded to . The W . M gave tho health of tho joining member , Bro . A . W . Smith , who Lo complimented on tho excellent recommendation he had brought with him . Bro . Smith returned thanks in a neat speech . Bro . P . M . Killick senior proposed the health of the W . M ,, observing thafc no brother present had known him so long as he , yet ho believed they had known him long enough to appreciate the services ho had rendered : the toast was drunk with all the honours . The W . M .
in returning thanks observed he Avould ever bear in mind the good feeling he had experienced at the hands of the Officers aud brethren of the Lodge , ancl thanked them very heartily for their expressions of kindly feeling towards him . Tho health of tho Visitors being drunk , Bro . G . Hill Drury replied ; he thanked the brethren for the welcome all had received , aud paid a high compliment to tho W . M . in having
such an efficient staff of Officers . Tho W . M . next proposed tho health of tho W . M . elect ; by his assiduity he bad fully qualified himself to fulfil tho duties of the high office which had been conferred upon him . Tho toast was drunk with all Masonic honours . Bro . Trewinnard said ho hoped his conduct in the chair would meet with the approbation of tho brethren ; nothing , he trusted , would bo
found Avanting on his part to perform the duties which he Avould so shortly bo called on to fulfil . Tho Officers' health was proposed and duly responded to , as also was Bro .
