stated that ho considered the communication ho received from the G . Lodge of New South Wales , and ho therefore considered it his duty to publish that decision , iu order to protect the English Lodges , and as a caution to prevent intended candidates from joining this spurious body of Masons , and further ho considered it also his duty at the first meeting of District Grand Lodge , to read tho correspondence , and there was no law in the Book of Constitutions or lam of usage

any future time by law : he wns happy to inform tho brethren that at no timo in the colony has Freemasonry under the Constitution ot the Grand Lodge of England made such rapid and useful progress as it ha ? done iu the past year and a half . It was not necessary that ho should advert to tho reasons why snch n change \ Y . V \ taken placo , they aro obvious , and clear to thinking Freemasons ; the cause
of progress is apparent—old Freemasons aro reforming themselves and returning to tho Constitution they formerly belonged to . During the past eighteen months , nine new Lodges had been formed by dispensation and ono Lodge resuscitated—who will say this is not a wonderful change in such a short space of time , notwithstanding the difficulties we have had to contend with in the form of schism ,
by brethren doing their utmost to destroy the heart of Freemasonry—universality of brotherhood — under regular constituted authority ; he had met with a great deal of abuse for the part he had taken , but he could afford to regard it as of no importance , as tho course he had pursued had the approval of his own conscience , and was conducivo to promote tho best interests of the Order iu the
Colony . Bro . Simpson D . D . G . M . said that as Bro . Hopson had resigned the office of Treasurer , the duties of which he had discharged in a satisfactory manner , he now proposed W . Bro . In his opinion , this shonld bo the case , tho D . G . L . being composed of representatives from all the private Lodges . Every member had , therefore , a just claim to participate iu tho festival .
