Andrew was celebrated in Edinburgh , by tho Grand Lodgo of Scotland , nnd tho Daughter Lodge of tho Metro , politau province , ou tho 30 th ult ., with tho usual installation and banquet . Tho proceedings commenced with an Installation Grand Lodgo in tho Lodge Hall , tho Depute Grand Master Bro . Henry Inglis of Torsonco on tho throne ; tho Grand Architect Bro . W . Hay acting as Grand Senior Warden and Past Graud Deacon Bro .
W . Officer acting as Grand Junior Warden . Tho acting Grand Master declared tho offices of Grand Lodgo vacant , and iu accordance with tho nomination of tho 5 th November , proposed Sir Michael It . Shaw-Stewart Part , as Grand Master Mason of Scotland for tho ensuing year . This having been unanimously agreed to , tho Grand Master was introduced by tho acting Grand Wardens and tho Grand Stewards , and Bro . Inglis administered tho oath de fideli to tho Grand Master . Tho election of tho office-bearers was then conducted
in accordance with tho nomination list , which appeared in onrissno of 10 th November . Most of tho nowly appointed officers being present , tho oath de fideli was administered to them , and tho Installation Grand Lodge was thereupon closed . Tho Grand Officers then proceeded to tho Great Hall , in tho usual order , tho organ playing tho anthem , there to partake of tho banquet , which was joined in by
upwards of two hundred brethren . Tho Grand Master presided , and tho Croupiers wero Bros . F . ^ A . Barrow , Glasgow , Senior Grand Warden ; Lord Inverurie Junior Grand Warden and Prov . about a hundred and eig hty . Grace having been said by tho Grand Chaplain , the company partook of dinner , which was purveyed by Bro . Thiem , of the Windsor Hotel . Grand Lodge was then opened in the first degree , and the Grand Master proposed in succession the toasts of tho Holy Lodge of St . John , which as usual was drunk in silence , and the Queen , which was very heartily received . He next
proposed His Eoyal Highness tho Prince of Wales , Patron of the Scottish Craft , remarking thafc the Princo was ever ready to do his public duties in this country , and thafc when he did como forward he won all parties by his kind , unaffected , manly , and at the same time thoroughly dignified deportment . This toast having been honoured , the G . M . gave tho Princess of Wales and tho rest of tho Eoyal
Family , remarking that that was appropriately a toast for Masons , as the Duke of Connaughfc and Princo Leopold , Prov . Grand Master of Oxford , were both members of the Craft . Tho next toast from tho chair was the Navy , Army , Militia , and Volunteers , Commander Forbes replying for tho Navy , and Colonel Campbell for the Army ; and this was followed by the Craft and Freemasonry over the World ;

H . the Princo of Wales ; the Grand Lodge of Ireland and the Duke of Abereorn , The Deputy Grand Master next proposed tho Grand Master , in doing so ho remarked that when Sir Michael first came among them , he found the affairs of Grand Lodge in a dislocated state , and his first observation was this : — " I pledge myself if I can to put them right . "—( Applause ) . Sir
Michael Shaw-Stewart had kept his word . With a mixture of firmness and courtesy and business talent ho had succeeded in putting Grand Lodgo into the right groove at last—( Applause)—ifc would have grieved them and all the Craft if tho Grand Master had nofc been again placed on the throno of Grand Lodge to see tho results of what had been achieved in its excellent working order . ( Applause . )
Without fear of contradiction he would say , that among the illustrious roll of Grand Masters who had preceded Sir Michael—and there was no more illustrious roll of Grand Masters in Europe —( Applause ) —no one had been superior to tho Mason now on their throne . The toast was received with three times three . The Grand Master , in replying , first briefly glanced at some portions of the past history
of Grand Lodge , and then proceeded to congratulate the brethren and tho Craft on the promising and prosperous state of affairs now existing . ( Applause . ) They had now an able and efficient and a very hard working Graud Secretary . ( Applause . ) Tho Grand Cashier also was well able to discharge tho duties of his office , and did his duties in such a way as to merit and to have obtained the approval
of those who wore well qualified to judge of his work . ( Applause . ) The Grand Master in concluding his remarks thanked the brethren cordially and heartily for the kind manner in which they had received him , and for the honour they had done him in re-electing him for another year to occupy the throne of Grand Lodge . He had received the very greatest kindness , consideration , and support
from all the officers of Grand Lodge and from the Craft afc large . ( Applause . ) A long list of toasts was then disposed of . Tho Grand Master proposed "The Past Grand Masters ; " and "The Foreign Grand Lodges" was proposed by tho Substitute Grand Master , and replied for by Bro . W . Mann , representative of Grand Lodge of Sweden . The Senior Grand Warden proposed " The health of the
Depute Grand Master , " who replied , and proposed that of Lady Octavia Shaw Stewart , which was acknowledged by the Grand Master . The Junior Grand Warden then proposed tho toast of " The Substitute Grand Master . " From the first time he left his mother ' s hand bo had , lie said , been taught thafc one of the 6 rsb principles of lifo was in the trite saying , " Duty before pleasure , "

But on tho present occasion there was an exception , for ho was hardly installed in office before ho found himself in the happy position of asking them to drink to "The health of the Substitute Grand Master , " and after somo complimentary remarks he called on tho brethren to assist liirn iu that duty . expressed his hopo thafc so long as ablo ho should do his duty to Masonry in Scotland . Sabino rose and , addressing tho Mosb Worshipful Grand Master , proposed tho Eight Hon . the Lord Skelmersdale as G . M . M . M . for tho ensuing term . In so doing Bro . Sabino paid a high tribute to the E . W . brother , and deemed the great and continuous progress of Mark
Master Masonry to be duo to tho interest taken in tho Order by so many distinguished brothers . He alluded to tho opposition ( what ho deemed sincere opposition ) which Mark Masonry had experienced , but in spito of all that was done tho Order was rapidly increasing all over tho world . Tho figures showed a wide difference now to what they wero in the time when M . W . Bro . Beach was G . M .
Tho M . W . tho Grand Master said : —Before I revert to the proposition for the nomination of G . M ., I would draw the attention of the brethren to tho marked increase in onr Order , and particularly to the increase in the province of Bengal . There must have been extraordinary energy displayed to accomplish it , as tho report shows a list of four now lodges established there .
Tho Grand Master then explained the courso of action ( which he deemed imperative ) he had taken with reference to tho Mansion House Indian Famine Fund , and trusted thafc Grand Lodgo would agree with him in tho course ho had adopted to assist iu relieving the distress in India , which , happily , was now subsiding ; and , lastly , ho had lo mark the letter of tho General G . Chapter of Eoyal
Arch Masons for tho United States of America . We must feel pleased to see them recognizing us as tho legitimate head of Mark Master Masons iu England end Wales , aud wo shall be able to outer into full and satisfactory correspondence with this by fur the mosb powerful nation in Eoyal Arch Masonry . With reference to my successor on this throne , I think thafc Bro . Lord Skelmersdalo ' s
nomination as G . M . is in every way calculated to givo great satisfaction . M . W . P . G . M . Eev . G . E . Portal , in risiug to urge the recommendations alluded to in the report , referred to the friendly action of tho Grand Chapter of tho United States , and stated ifc was impossible to overrate the importance of being recognized by the Grand Lodge of the United States . Canada and Ireland had previously done so , and
he felb sure thafc it would also come from Scotland . All the recommendations were unanimously agreed to . Bro . T . Meggy reminded Grand Lodge that there had been renewed efforts to establish and maintain a Mark Lodge of Improvement , and he had groat pleasure in informing the brethren that such Lodgo was held every Wednesday , in Eed Lion-square . He cordially invited
brethren from town and country to attend . Bro . Stevens held thafc such a Lodgo was urgently needed , and thought that a grant from G . L . ought to be raado for part maintenance of such a Lodge . Bro . Binckes dissented from this view of Bro . Stevens , as regards a Grand Lodga grant , and said it could not be done . Other brethren took part in tho
discussion , and tho M . W . G . Master thought thafc a matter of so much importance should bo referred to the Board of General Purposes , which was agreed to , a resolution , moved by Bro . Meggy and seconded by Bro . M . Ohren , being framed to that effect . The business being finished , tho Grand Lodge of M . M . M . was closed , with prayer , at a quarter to 7 p . m .
