NEW MUSIC .

Chappell and Co ., Limited . —No . 143 of Chappell and Co . ' s Musical Magazine is well arranged for the season , containing as it does a selection of eight dances and a march , all of which introduce popular tunes of tho day , and , as a consequence , aro sure to win approval during the winter festivities . The " Gondoliers , " " Circus Girl , " " Gay Parisienne , " and other compositions of the day are laid under contribution , and pleasing results are tho outcome .

" The Topsy-Turvy Hotel" is dealt with in many forms by Messrs . Chappell . We have a " selection , " arranged for the pianoforte by Charles Godfrey jun ., which—like all the productions of this famous musician—is effective , and ably compiled ; it should become a favourite . Carl Kiefert has given us a very lively Waltz on the " Hotel" melodies of Victor Roger and Lionel Monckton ; while for Lancers , founded on the same pleasing tunes , Mr . Warwick Williams has provided a very effective arrangement .

" Toujours " Waltz , by Carl Kiefert , is another contribution from the same source : and , introducing as it does some of the liveliest items of the " Hotel" comedy , it can be recommended as lively , with the certainty of winning approval . Among other recent songs published by this firm are : " Leave me not . " Words by Clifton Bingham , music by Tito Mattei—a production which may best be recommended by saying that the two famous artistes have here done themselves credit .

" Teach me the charm . " Words by Constance Sutcliffe , music by Noel Johnson . "She is far from the land . " Words by Tom Moore , music by Frank Lambert . " Sea Breezes . " Words by Edward Teschemacher , music by Franco Leoni . " Speak but one word . " Words by Edward Teschemacher , music by Frank Lambert .

" Song of the Bow . " Words by A . Conan Doyle , music by Florence Aylward . " A Medieeval Knight . " Words by Ronald Aubrey , music by Guy d'Hardelot . " The Curfew . " Words by J . Tobin , musio by Monk Gould .

Francis , Day and Hunter . —As usual this firm is well to the front with seasonable novelties . Karl Kaps shows himself to advantage in his " Jolly Folly " Quadrilles , in which the popular songs of the day are introduced with his accustomed ability and thoroughness . The same composer supplies the music for the " Chain Cotillion , " a new

dance arranged by Mortlake VV . Mann , which from the description set out by the inventor should ceriainly provide hearty amueement during the season , and remain thereafter as a regular favourite . The mere mention of "The Three Musketeers ; " whether in the gavotte — composed by Celian Kottaun—or in any other ioim , may be taken as a signal for popularity . We predict the same good fortune is in store for this

New Music.

number as is the case with its namesake at the Globe Theatre at the present time—a full measure of public appreciation . Wo have also received from this firm . * " From Skies to Earth again " ( with violin and ' cello obligato ) , the words and music by Leslie Stuart . Enoch and Sons . —The firm ' s " Dance Album" contribution to the season ' s music , is the 13 th of the series , —but stirely the proverbial ill luck of

the baker ' s dozen cannot attend so interesting a number . The part contains four Waltzs— " Life ' s Lullaby , " on Gerald Lane ' s celebrated song , being among the number . " Popularity Lancers , " introducing popular songs of the day ; an " Up to date " polka , a " Whistling Barn Dance , " and a Berlin Polka , aptly designated " Unter den Linden "—an excellent shillingsworth , without a doubt .

Messrs . Enoch and Sons also send us a selection of songs , among which we have * . ' " Love me to-day I" Words by Frederic E . We atherley , music by F . Paolo Tosti . There is hardly any need to particularise when such well known names as are here associated appear in connection with a song . This production of the well known author and composer is a credit to them , and should add to'their reputation . " Children ' s Ways . " Words and music by Gerald Lane .

" My Flower . " Words by E . Teschemayer ( the German version by M . Ronald ) , musio by Landon Ronald . " River Dreams . " Words and musio by Gerald Lane . " Serenade" ( La Chanson de ma Mie ) . French words by Th . de Banville , English version by R . H . Blkin ; music by H . Bamberg .

G . Ricordi and Co . —" Lays for ' little ones" is an attractive title at this season of the year , and the music and words collected under this heading by Herbert T . Bunning in the one case , and F . E . Weatherley and G . R . Askwith in the other , well sustain the favourable opinion formed at the outset . It is a good plan to introduce pleasing illustrations in connection with the musio set our younger friends , as the presence of judicious " colouring "

is likely to create an interest in the lessons , and lead to the pieces being approached with an amount of pleasure , rather than as actual tasks . Altogether the volume of "Lays" is made very effective , even the covers being deserving of a word of praise , as exemplifications of what it is possible to produce with an artistic combination of white and black— the colours introduced being really subsidiary , although contributing to the general good effect .

Also received : " When summer was . " Song by Walter Head , musio by Alice Borton . " Speak I" Words by Clifton Bingham , musio by F . Paolo Tosti .

It is proposed to hold a Masonic ball in the Town Hall , Newbury , early in the new year , under the auspices of the Loyal Berkshire Lodge of-Hope , of which Bro . Stephen Knight jun . is Worshipful Master , and Major Gerald Ricardo Senior Warden .
