in the Lodge-room an hour later . Lodge was opened with solemn prayer , and the minutes of the previons meeting wero read aud confirmed . The ballot was taken for Mr . Chonery , and announced favourable . He was subsequently initiated into Freemasonry by the W . M . the S . W . ( Bro . Read ) presenting the working tools , and the Junior Warden ( Bro . Spencer ) delivering the E . A . chargo in a very
impressive manner . There being no further business hearty good wishes were expressed by the numerous visitors , and the Lodge was closed in peace and harmony . An exceptionally brilliant evening was spent around the social board , two clever reciters ( Bros . Fitzsimmons and Goldman ) delighting the brethren with their contributions , the former giving a scene from Riohurd the Third , and a highly intellectual ode on death , aud the latter convulsing the
company by his clever rendering of Kicking Strap ' s Race ( a parody on the celebrated Kissing Cup ' s Race ) , and Bo Jabers ( a parody on Excelsior ) . Brother Will Howard ' s fine voice was heard to great advantage in "In sheltered Vale" and another ballad ; and Bro . S . Jupp was very successful in " Tell her I love her so . " Iu addition to this talent Bros . Walmesley and Lisenden also sang , whilst Brother Daber ' s performance on the piano was much enjoyed . Altogether the evening ' s entertainment is not likely to be soon forgotten .

THE annual meeting was held in the Freemasons' Hall . Stockton , on the 28 th ult ., when Bro . Green S . W . was installed in the chair of K . S . in succession to Bro . Gatt P . P . G . S . Bro . Watson P . M . P . P . G . J . D . was the Installing Master , and he performed his duties efficiently and impressively . After the ceremony the new W . M . appointed and invested the following brethren as bis Officers : —

Elliott was raised to the sublime degree of a M . M . by Bro . Needham P . M ., the working tools being explained by Bro . Hall . The Lodge was dnly lowered to the second and ( i-.-t degrees . A letter was received from Bro . Ernest Davies , announcing
his arrival at Vanconver , British Columbia , and sending hearty good wishes . Bro . Hirsch informed the brethren that he had mot Kinjj Oscar of Sweden in a Lodge in that conntry , and on informing his Majesty that he ( Bro . Hirsch ) was coming to England to take hi- j second degree , His Majesty requested him to convey his hearty good wishes to the brethren . There being no further business , the
Lodge was closed in peace and harmony . At tho social board the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed , inoluding the health of the newly passed and raised brethren . Bro . Tom Wood , whom every one was pleased to see again after his severe illness , proposed the health of the P . M . 's in laudatory terms , and before concluding , returned his sincere thanks to the brethren for their letter of sympathy and kind inquiries during his illness . Bro . A . Hebden
proposed the health of the W . M . in eulogistic terms , and in doing so commended the zealous earnest work and interest he had taken in Freemasonry Bince his connection with it , and which had brought him to his present proud position at so youDg an age . Bro . Hebden aaid it was Bro . Hilton ' s determination to do all iu his power fLi - the benefit of Freemasonry , at any cost , and it would not be at all surprising if their W . M . became a Provincial Grand , and even a

Sutton ) brought a strong muster of his friends down by the 10 a . m . train from Liverpool-street , to which a special saloou carriage was attached . Amongst these was

The banqnet was unfortunately not a success ; most of the London brethren had to return by the train leaving at 6 ' 28 ; dinner was ordered at 4 o ' clock , but it was nearer
5 o ' clock before it was announced . The consequence was everything had to be hurried , nnd there was no timo for toast giving or speech making . The waiters got wrong , courses vvere served out of turn , cold plates with hot meat and hot plat"s with ice pudding . Every ono commiserated with the W . M ., who had dono everything for tha comfort of Ins viziers and the brethren generally , in a mutt
lavish and liberal style , and it is a groat pity , from sheer bad manugement , thiit the evening ' s onjoyment should have boon spoilt . After the departure of the train about fifteen or twouty of tho Brethren supported tho W . M . till the toast list was gone through , and then a snifF of thu briny was the order ; cigars ou the Pier , with sundry snacks , completed the day .
