Thomas Ncton , in acknowledging the toast , said that called upon to respond to that most important toast on behalf of hia services in the chair , he really did not know what to say . He had been going to say that he intended to make the longest speech on record ; that might have been if some one had pre . ceded him , but he thonght he had better leave nnsaid what he should have said . ON Tuesday afternoon , the 4 th lust ., there waa a large gathering of brethren in Stirling on the occasion of the installation of Brother George Chiislie , ex-Provost of Stirling , into the office of Provincial Grand Master of Stirlingshire , which waa rendered vacant through the resignation of Brother Shaw Stewart , M . P ., who has been chosen to succeed hia father as Piovincial Graud Master of Renfrewshire West . The members of the Piovincial Grand Lodge

met at five o ' clock in the Golden Lion Hotel , and when the Lodge had beeu formally opened , the following deputation from the Grand Lodge of Scotland was received : —Brothers the Earl of Haddington G . In giving the toast of the > avy , Army , and Forces of the Reservep , he said it was satisfactory to note that although there had beeu a change of Government there was to

bo no change in regard to tho efficiency of the British Navy . The latter toast was responded to by Sir James Buchanan , Bart ., for the Navy , General Boswell for the Army , and Colonel Stirling , of Kippendavie , for the Forces of the Reserve . Brother the Rev . John Scott proposed the Grand Lodge of Scotlaud . Brother the Earl of Haddirgton replied iu an able speech , in the course of which he

df-alt with the foundation , the principles , and aims of Freemasonry . Brother Sir Jnmes R . G . Maitland , Bart ., gave the other members of the deputation of the Grand Lod ^ e , and thanked the members of tho Grand Lodge who had come forward to support Brother the Earl of Haddington in installiug tho Provincial Gum Master .
