The roll of Chapters in the Province was then called over , when it appeared the summons had been loyally responded to ; with one ex . ception all the Chapters beiDg represented . The minutes of last Provincial Grand Chapter , held at Croydon in May last year , were then read , submitted for confirmation , and unanimously arjnroved .
A Committee had been appointed to report to Prov . Grand Chapter as to the advisability of altering tbe scale of charges in respeot to fees of honour , which many members considered had been fixed at a very low rate , and might with advantage be inoreased . This Committee delivered their report , and in it reoommended that an advance be made . The Provincial Grand
Superintendent advocated the adoption of this Report ; afcthe same time he assured the Companions he had not tbe slightest wish to bias them in any way as to the conclusion tbey should arrive at . On the question being put to the meeting , it was carried nem con . The Bye-Iaws for the government of Provincial Grand Chapter were then read by G . S . E ., and the Treasurer ' s accounts were read and adopted . The next
business was the election of Prov . Grand Treasurer ; Gen . Brownrigg regretted the absence that day , throngh illness , of Comp . Price , who had fulfilled the duties of Treasurer for many years . Comp . Greenwood stated that he had just received a letter from their worthy Treasurer , explaining the nature of his illness , and bewailing his inability to be present . Comp . Dr . Strong trusted that Comp . Greenwood , in acknowledging tbe receipt of this letter , would
express the feelings of regret with which Grand Chapter had beard o ! Comp . Price's illness ; and at the same time assure him of the appreciation they feit for the zeal he at all times displayed for the welfare of the Province , and for his constant attendance to his dnties . These sentiments were fully endorsed by the Grand Superintendent , and on proposition duly made and seconded , Comp . Price was unanimously re-elected Treasurer . The appointment of Officers was then made , as follows :

United Strength Chapter , No . 228 . —The annual Convocation of this Chapter , for the election of Officers for tho ensuing year , and the trausaction of other business , was held on Tuesday evening last , at the Guildhall Tavern , Gresham-street , when , in the anavoidable absence of Comp . John While M . E . Z ., the chair was filled by Comp . James Hillhouse P . Z ., who was supported by Comps .
Robert II . Halford as H ., Charles K . Killick J ., E . Davies Soribe E ., A . Timothy P . S ., James Terry P . Z . Secretary R . M . B . I ., George H . Edis , VilettRolleston , J . Gibba , H . Paiue , J . Woodman , P . Woodman , H . W . Harris , C . Thomas Janitor , and others . The Visitors included Comps . A . Norris P . S . 181 and Edward W . Braine H . 145 . The minutes of the last Convocation having been read and confirmed , the
ballot was opened for Bro . Joseph Bennett , Strawberry Hill Lodge , No . 946 , proposed by Comp . Davies Soribe E ., and seconded by Comp . James Terry P . Z . The voting was unanimously in approval , and Bro . Bennett was duly exalted by the M . E . Z ., assisted by his Offioers , whose working was beyond criticism . The Bye-laws of the Chapter having been considered , the election of Principals and Officers for the
ensuing year was proceeded with , as follows : —Comps . Robert H . Halford M . E . Z ., Charles K . Kttlick H ., E . Davies J ., A . Timothy Scribe E „ Hunter Scribe N ., Fenner P . Soj ., James Terry P . Z . Treas ., C . Thomas Janitor . By the unanimous vote of the Chapter , it was resolved to present a P . Z . ' s jewel to Comp . John While , as a mark of
esteem , and in recognition of the zeal he displays . At the conclusion of business , the Comps . and Visitors sat down to a sumptuous banquet , provided in a style for which this old established and well-appointed hotel has so long been proverbial , and the customary Loyal and Royal Arch toasts were duly honoured . A most harmonious and agreeable evening was passed .
A letter which we have received from Bro . J . S . Cumberland , P . P . J . G . W . and Charity Representative of the Province of North and East Yorkshire , and which it has
given ns great pleasure to publish in another part of our columns , contains fuller particulars than we were in a position to give last week of tbe service done by that Province at the recent Festival of the Girls' School . The
total contributed was £ 520 , of which the sum of £ 340 9 s was raised by the joint efforts of the Earl of Zetland , Grand Master of the Province , Bros . J . W . Goodall P . P . S . G . W ., J . S . Cumberland P . P . J . G . W ., and C . Palliser P . P-G . Superintendent of Works . The Humber Lodge ,
No . 57 , by the hands of its Steward , Bro . J . Walton J . W ., gave £ 63 ; the Minerva Lodge , No . 250 , by its W . M ., Dr . Holder , £ 57 15 ; and the Kingston Lodge , No . 1010 , per
Bros . George Bolen P . P . G . R ., H . Hogan , and W . Forder , £ 58 16 s . We thank Bro . Cumberland for his information , aud congratulate the Province of which he is so great an ornament on the excellence of its latest work .
We also have pleasure in announcing , on the authority of Bro . Hedges , that the following lists were accidentally omitted from the Statement of Subscriptions we published last week : —
Lodge 771 Marshall H . Darby ... £ 28 17 0 „ 1416 Kipling C . G . L . ... 17 17 0
It is extremely gratifying to note that , although there are some six weeks yet to elapse ere the Anniversary Festival of the Royal Masonic Iustitution for Boys takes place , Bro . Binckes has already succeeded in securing the services , as Stewards , of as nearly as possible tbe full number
of brethren which constituted the Board of last year . This must be extremely gratifying to "Our Hercules , " aud not less so to our respected Brother the Lord Mayor , who has kindly undertaken to preside on the occasion . What may not be done in six weeks ? There is ample time for
an addition to the list of some sixty or seventy Stewards , and in that case , and taking the reasonable sum of £ 40 as the average of each Steward's list , we should have a total which would place the Boys' School on a fair level with the two Institutions whose anniversaries have already been
celebrated . That funds are greatly needed is proved by two circumstances —( 1 ) The disproportionate number of candidates to vacancies , and ( 2 ) the very limited amount of invested moneys as compared with the Girls' School and the Benevolent Institution . We know that Bro . Binckes
will lose no chance of promoting the success of the approaching Festival . We are certain the Lord Mayor is auxious that his appearance as Chairman should be attended with satisfactory results , and we trust the Craft
will make it their business to meet the labours of the one , and the wishes of the other . All we can say is—May the Boys' School Festival of 1882 be at least as brilliant as the most brilliant of its predecessors !
