Analysis Of The Subscription List, R.M.B.I.
volent Institution since the close of 1874—at least , on these important occasions . We have heard that Bro . J . Pearson Bell , the Deputy Prov . G . Master , has in hand a scheme by which the Province should be a regular contributor to the Charities . We know , too , there are some
few brethren , such as he and Bro . J . Thompson , of Hull , P . Prov . G . S . B ., who take an active part in supporting them ; but what are they likely to bo able to effect , if the
rest of the Provinco , including its chief , is so utterly indifferent to the heavy requirements of our Institutions F However , let us give due honour to the four Lodges which have not lost sio-ht of the fact that there are central
Masonic Charities , which are sorely in need of help to be administered regularly every year . Whether one , or more than one Lodge contributed at the Girls ' Festival in 1875 does not appear , tho amount being entered to tho credit of North and East Yorkshire , without further
definition . Apart from this , we find that the Humber Lodge , No . 57 , Hull , has been represented at five Festivals , and its contributions at four wero £ 111 lis , the amount contributed on tbe fifth occasion being unstated . Minerva No . 250 , also of Hull , has figured five times , and given
altogether £ 138 9 s . Denison , No . 1248 , of Scarborough was on the list of the Boys' School in 1877 , but the amount of its list is unstated . The Eboracum , No . 1611 , of York , founded only in 1876 , has sent up Stewards to five different Festivals since its foundation : twice in 1877 ,
twice in 18 / 8 , and on this occasion ; the amount of its contributions being £ 133 10 s . Thus , the two senior Hull Lodges , a Scarborough Lodge—not , however , the oldestand the junior York Lodge—the senior can find timo aud means for making a fuss over its centenary , and receiving
American Knight Templar Pilgrims , but appears to be indifferent to the claims of our Charities on all English Masons—are the onl y Lodges in North and East
Yorkshire which have figured in the lists published in THE FUEEMASOX ' CIIUOJUCXE of the last thirteen Festivals . We have hinted at this before ; we trust the present hint may prove more effectual .
Further sums of £ 10 10 s from Bto . P . C . F . Tatham , of Tuscan Lodgo No . 14 , aud £ 10 10 s from Bro . Joseph E . Turner , of Lodge Universal , No . 181 , have been received by Bro . Terry in respect of last Wednesday ' s Festival This raises the London total , as stated in our Analvsis , to £ 0 , 174 9 s .

ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR BOYS ,
To the Editor of the FREEMASON ' CHRONICLE . DEAR SHI AND BROTHER , — It was only yesterday afternoon that I found myself in a position to justify a definite correction of a statement which lias obtained wide-spread publicity , through tho columns of both the Msisouic aud ordinary daily press .
Messrs . Willis , Perceval and Go . were the bankers of this Institution , and tho lato Bro . S . Touikins , a partner , was neither Trustee nor Treasurer , as bo was to Grand Lodge and the other Masonic Institutions , and it is hotel that this Institution bus no / otiis standi as a claimant on tbe private estate . The information , therefore , should
be : —The claims of all tbe Masonic bodies ou the estate of Messrs . Willis , Percival and Co . have beeu paid iu full , — villi the exception of that tf the Royal Miisonic Institution for Buys . In consequence of tho loss thus sustained , in amount £ S'M , and on
that account alone , wc are compelled to obtain assistance from our present bankers to discharge tho bills for the past quarter . Surely under these exceptional circumstances , we have tbe best possible basis for an exceptionally urgent appeal for sympathy , aud for increased practical support iu our hour of ueed .
I am , Dear Sir aud Brother , Yours faithfully and fraternally , FREDERICK BINCKES , Secretary G Freeinasous' Hall , W . C , 19 th February 1870 .
INCOME OF THE BOYS' SCHOOL .
To the Editor of THE FREEMASON ' CHRONICLE . DEAR STR AND BROTHER , —In reference to tbo vory useful tabular statement , in your last is ^ stie , showing tha pist year ' s incomes of our Institutions , have you not been misinformo'l as to tho income of
the Boys' School ? Tho report of thft Audit Committee gives the receipts as £ 12 , 618 Gs 7 d , whilst tho CHRONICLE states them as . 613 , 130 18 s 7 d , a difference of £ 512 12 s 0 d . If you could givo an explanation of this discrepancy in your next you would doubtless oblige others than , Yours fraternally , A LIKE GOVERNOR . 11 th February 1879 .
ROYAL MASONIC BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION FESTIVAL .
To the Editor of the FREEMASON s CHRONICLE . DEAR SIR AND BROTHER , —Although the success of tho Festival of tbe Benevolent Institution was financially very great , aud all praiso should be given to those who laboured so hard to achieve tho result , yet I am sorry to note the fact that tbo Prov . G . Master of East Lancashire was but meagrely supported by tho prominent present and past
Grand Officers who reside in and about London . I should have thought au effort would havo been mado by those in authority to welcome tho brother who came from so great a distance , and the Stewards , GO in number , who accompanied him . I do not wish to make invidious comparisons , but cannot refrain from noticing the fact that tbe prominent members of one Masonio
organisation , which has recently com * very much to the front ( having this year throe members belonging to its highest grade adorned with tho purple ) , were conspicuous by their absence . I hope this was only the result of accident , and not designedly done to ignore tho claims of Masonic chai-ity , or yot to slight a brother Mason who
does not happen to belong to their community . Forgetting any apparent neglect , tho East Lancashire men have a right to feel proud of the result , and tbe commercial community iu that district need not be ashamed to vie with their aristocratic southern brethren in the support of our valued Institutions . Yours fraternally , HAUTE GRADE .
THINGS ONE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW .
To the Editor of Tun FREEMASON ' S CHRONICLE . DEAR Sin AND BROTHER , —The London Masonic Charity Association have kindly undertaken to assist tho cases of C . F . Frost and F . A . Giles , candidates for election into the Boys' School , and of E . E . Williams into the Girls' School . Subscribers are requested to forward their votes to the Secretary , Bro . Alfred Tisloy , of No . 1 ,
Cliffords Inn . A Brother Alfred Tisloy , of Long Ditton , Surrey , has , in the same generous spirit , recommended the case of Percy Herbert Stone , as worthy of support . One would like to know if tho Bro . Alfred Tisloy of Clifford ' s Inn , aud Bro . Alfred Tisloy of Long Ditton , are one and the same person , aud , if identical , in what proportion the votes forwarded to the Secretary of the London
Masonic Charily Association are to bo divided amongst tho various candidates ? ( 1 ) Will the boy P . H . Stone be allowed a third , or tho residue after securing the election of the other two boys ? ( 2 ) What steps will bo taken by the executive of the L . M . C . A . to make this arrangement known to the subscribers ?
I read tho appeal of Bro . Perceval in tho interest of the boys Frost and Giles , inserted in your issue of the 1 st instant . Could you also find room for epistolary addresses from the friends and sup . porters of the other candidates ? There are many oa the list to whom such insertions wonld be of inestimable value . Yours truly and fraternally , FORTE . 10 th February 1870 .
The statement contained in our issue of the 8 th inst ., to the effect that the amount due to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys at the time of the failure of Messrs . Willis , Percival and Co ., had been paid iu full out of the
estate of the late Bro . S . Tomkins , who was a member of that firm , as well as the amounts due to Grand Lodge , Grand Chapter , and the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , turns out to have been erroneous . The Boys ' School was paid the composition of nine shillings in the
pound , as arranged to be paid by the Bank which purchased the business of the defunct Bank ; and as the amount standing to its credit at the time of the failure was stated in Grand Lodge to be £ 1 , 560 , this Institution will be a loser to the extent of between £ 850 and £ 900 . In
fact , this is the onl y Institution which will sustain any loss , as Grand Lodge , and Chapter , and the Benevolent have been paid in full , while the Girls' had borrowed a
sum considerably in excess of the balance to its credit , This will have to be borne in mind as a strong reason foi supporting Bro . Binckes when the Festival of the Institution of which he is Secretary ia at hand .
