and proseut . Bro . P . M . Symons next assumed the gavel , and iu brief terms proposed the health of tho W . M . He felt that but few words were neoded to introduce this toast aa their W . M . had proved himself a good Mason . Ho had always been regular in his attendance , and had worked with tho respective Mastors under whoso rule he had served the Lodge . Ho felt sure that Bro . Halle wonld do his best to

render his term of office a success . In reply the W . M . having tendered his thanks , said he Bhonld try and prove himself proficient in the duties of the chair . He had always endeavoured to do his best , but should now strive still further to excel . He considered his oloction to the chair the proudest compliment that conld have been paid him , and so long as ho held the gavel of tho Lodge ho hoped to do

everything to advance its interests . Ho trusted ho might lift tho Lodge into as proud a position as that of any Lodge in the kingdom . The next toast was that of the I . P . M . Bro . Symons . The W . M . felt all must agree with him that during tho past year their Master had carried out . his work most efficiently , indeed he questioned whether he could be excelled in the office . He had great pleasure in presenting the very

handsome jewel which tho members had awarded him . In ptacing it on his breast ho felt that it was the wish of them all that Bro . Symons would long be spared to wear it . Tho I . P . M . desired to express his thanks both for tho kind sentiments which had been expressed and the handsome jewel which had been given to him . He greatly valued the jewel , and shonld always prize it , as it would remind him

of the happy time he had spent in the Lodge . Ho sincerely thanked them all for tho assistance ho had received during his term of office . The health of tho Visitors was next proposed from the chair , to which Bro . Tolmie replied . Bro . Vass replied to tho following toast , that of the Past Masters , after which tho W . M . gave tho toast of tho Treasurer and Secretary . Bro . Treasurer having remarked that he would help bis friend in responding , Bro . Wing ( Sec . ) said Bro . Follett

had always helped him ever since he had been in office in the Lodge . He felt it a great honour to be appoinetd as Secretary of the Strong Man Lodgo . He had been a P . M . of the Lodge for many years , and shonld always proclaim ifc as superior to all others . Bro . Follett expressed the pleasure he felt in witnessing the prosperity of the Lodge , and he should ever do his best to support and maintain it in its proud position . The toast of the Officers was next given and the meeting was brought to a close .

THE installation took placo on Friday , in the presence of a goodly number of Visitors . There were presetn : —Bros . Laggett W . M ., Usher P . M . P . P . G . E ., Rev . J . Harrison P . M . P . G . C , J . Ayling P . M . P . P . G . D . C ., F . Loith P . M ., A . Des Barres P . M ., E . Kir by P . M ., H . Botting S . W ., F . E . England , Geo . Chandler , H . Abram , G . G . Thomson , H . Webb , T . Park , Spratling , Ryder , Willoy ,

Loughlin , Eea , Harding , Bard ; also Bros . Carlyon , Quill , Plater , Naylor , Miskin , Blamieres , Bird , Browning , Bent , Bridge , Jackson , F . Binckes , E . J . Grigg , Gorter , Smith , Kennel ;—Visitors . Tho WM elect Bro . Bofcfcing was presented by Bro . Kirby , and then regularly and duly installed by Bro . Laggett , who performed his arduous task in a most able and impressive manner , winning the highest praise from all present . Before the Lodge closed tho W . M . after investing

his Officers , presented a very handsome P . M . a jewel to Bro . Laggett the Installing Master , subscribed for by tho brethren , accompanying tho gift with a few well-timed words , in which he expressed the esteem the brethren had for Bro . Laggett and their appreciation of his services , adding tho wish that he might long be spared to wear the jewel . The W . M . alluded in feeling terms , daring the investiture of the Officers , to the illness of the S . W . and tho recent heavy bereaveof Bro . Chambers . After cordial votes of thanks to the I . P . M . for his

services and the Visitors for their presence , the Lodge was closed . The Brethren and Visitors then adjourned to the Royal Hotel , where Bro . Foster , the proprietor , had provided a capital dinner , to which every one did ample justice after the labours of the afternoon . As Boon as the cloth was cleared the W . M . proposed tho usual loyal and Masonic toasts in a brief but telling manner , all being received with

the utmost cordiality . Bro . Usher proposed the health of P . G . M . Kent , Baron Amherst , expatiating on the interest he took in all matters Masonio , and more especially in those relating to this Province , as well as the affability and kindness with which he treated evory one , and the impetus given to Freemasonry in the district . Bro . Harrison P . G . C . responded . Bro . Kirby next proposed the health of Bro . Eastes

D . P . G . M ., and in doing so took occasion to point out the able manner in which he administered the affairs of the Province , the trouble he took to make himself personally acquainted with the merits of all , and the admirable system he had with regard to the Charity arrangements . Bro . Naylor replied for the present P . G . O . and Bro . Bird for the pastP . G . O . Bro . Laggett then proposed the health of the W . M .

in highly eulogistic terms , and , taking that opportunity of publicly thanking him for the valuablo assistance he had at all times most "willingl y rendered to him ( Bro . Laggett ) , concluded by wishing him a happy and prosperous year of office and every blessing here below . The W . M . in reply thanked all for the expressions of friendship and goodwill which had been showered upon him , and assured them it should be his constant endeavour to maintain their regard , and never

Rive them any cause for regretting the choice they had made . The ' Charities " was proposed by Bro . A . Des Barres and most ably respoofed to by Bro . Ayling . P . P . G . D . C . who in the course of his remarks pointed out tho necessity of giving effect to the proposal for establishing a Pupils' Assistance Fund , which would be a most admirable institution , enabling the boys and girls who left the Schools to make a good start in the great race of life , He also pointed out how

groundless wore most of the reasons which the opponents of the scheme brought forward . The W . M . next proposed the health of I . P . M . and Installing Master Bro . Laggett , congratulating him on tho success which had crowned his efforts and the way in which ho had performed not only the ceremony that day , but all his duties during the past year , wishing him long life , health , wealth , and happiness .

Bro . Harrison afterwards proposed tho Visitors , aud Bro . Plater W . M . 1203 Sandwich replied , thanking them for their cordial reception and generous hospitality . Tho W . M . next gavo tho toast of tho P . M . ' s , saying how much tho Lodgo was indebted to their kind assistance and hoped they all would long be spared to give the Lodge the benefit of their advice and help . He mentioned that some of the

P . M . ' s , and they were very few , were conspicuous by their absence ; bnt their place was moro than amply supplied by tho other P . M . ' s who wero present . Bro . Usher replied , aud congratulated tho Lodge on its prosperous condition , more especially after the many ups and downs they had experienced . Tho " Officers " was proposed by the W . M ., and replied to by Bro . Eugland J . W . Tho Tyler ' s toasfc

having been given and drunk , tho proceedings terminated and the brethren separated , after having had a most pleasant and enjoyable evening . During the evening Messrs . Davis , Johnson , and Hurdey , of the Military Histrionic and Musical Club , Walmor , gave sevoral capital songs , duets , trios , & o . The Officers invested wore as follows : — Bros . J . Francis Burdett Lodge , No . 1503 , Twickenham . — The regular meeting of this Lodge was held on Tuesday , the 13 th inst ., at the Albany Hotel , Twickenham . Bro . William Taylor W . M . presided and was supported by tho following Officers , namely : — Bros . F . M . Ashley S . W ., T . C . Walls J . W ., T . R . Rishnell Treas ., L . Artus P . M ., S . H . KnaRgaP . M ., and W . H . Sunndors P . M ., as well

as by a numerous gathering of members and the following Visitors : — Bros . A . Pocock S . D . 1818 , R . L . Loveland P . M . 130 , A . H . Diaper P . M . 5 , S . T . H . Saunders 551 , G . G . Rushwortb . P . M . 1309 P . G . R . Middlesex , H . R . Perry 55 , and W . W . Morgan Sec . 211 . The Lodge having been opened , the minutes of the previous meeting wero read and confirmed . Bro . Arnold Elworthy Williams having givenevidence

of his progress in Freemasonry was passed to the degree of F . C The ballot was then taken for Mr . James Leslie Grove Powell , a candidate for the benefits of Freemasonry , and this having proved satis , factory , that gentleman was introduced and initiated iuto the mysteries of the first degree . Bro . Alexander Halcomb P . M . No . 90 waa then balloted for as a joining member and accepted . The W . M . then

referred to tho death of Bro . Charles Horsley , one of the oldest members of the Lodge , and on his motion being seconded by Bro . W . H . Saunders , the Secretary was requested to tako note of this and forward a letter of condolence to Bro . Alexander Horsley , nephew of the deceased brother . At tho instance of tho W . M . tho Lodge then accorded a hearty welcome to Past Master Knaggs , whom they were

glad to receive once more on his return f rom . a visit to Natal , and Bro . Knaggs appropriately acknowledged the complimont . It waa next proposed by the W . M . and seconded by Bro . Knaggs that a Past Master ' s jewel bo presented to Bro . W . H . Saunders in recognition of his services to the Lodgo during his occupancy of tho chair . Note wa 3 taken of the custom now prevailing in many Lodges of presenting

these jewels indiscriminately to all Masters on the completion of their term of office , and also of the rule of the Francis Burdett Lodge that such token of appreciation should only ba awarded to those brethren who had distinguished themselves by their ability . Afc the same time it was pointed out by the proposed seconder of the motion , as well as by a Past Master who spoke in support of it , that Bro .

Saunders , if he had exhibited no marked ability in tho fulfilment of his duties , had shown himself jealous of the honour of the Lodge and had distinguished himself in other respects in a manner well worthy of recognition . The motion having been put and carried with acclamation , Bro . Saunders , in acknowledging the compliment , expressed the surprise he felt afc the proposal . He fully recognised

that he did not possess the knowledge which a Master of the Lodge should display of the oftentimes arduous duties he was called upon to perform . But he would yield to no brother in hi 3 zeal to carry out tho true principles of Freemasonry ; he had shown this by having qualified as a Life Governor of all the Institutions . After a brief reference to the votes for the coming election for the Boys' School , ifc

was proposed , seconded , and carried , that the sum of five guineas voted at the last meeting towards the Stewards' List for the Girls ' School , be increased to £ 10 , and a similar sum will be forthcoming for the Boys' Festival , the Stewards themselves having promised to double their own contributions . This will raise the Lodge contributions for the current year to the central Charities to £ 30 . The other

bnsiness having been disposed of , the Lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to banquet . In due course , the Master rose , and proposed the customary toasts , and in offering that of Colonel Burdetfc , the Prov . G . M ., he trusted they should have the honour of welcoming him at some future gathering . Bro . Taylor also alluded to the great services to Freemasonry rendered by Bro . H . 0 . Levander , whose

absence was also a subject of great regret to the Lodge . Bro . Rushworth returned thanks , and with reference to the compliment paid Bro . Levander spoke in eulogistic terms of that brothsr ' s services in connection with the Lodge . Bro . Saunders having also replied , and in doing so explained the reason of the Prov . G . M . ' 3 absence , proposed tho health of the W . M ., and paid him a high but well-deserved

comolimentfor the very efficient manner in which ho fulfilled tho imporpant duties of his office . This having been responded to , the health of tho Initiate was duly honoured , and Bro . Powell expressed the pleasure he felt afc having been admitted into the fellowship of Freemasonry . The toast of the Visitors was received , as usual , with great cordiality , and each of those who were present in that capacity acknowledged in

Rushwortb . P . M . 1309 P . G . R . Middlesex , H . R . Perry 55 , and W . W . Morgan Sec . 211 . The Lodge having been opened , the minutes of the previous meeting wero read and confirmed . Bro . Arnold Elworthy Williams having givenevidence

of his progress in Freemasonry was passed to the degree of F . C The ballot was then taken for Mr . James Leslie Grove Powell , a candidate for the benefits of Freemasonry , and this having proved satis , factory , that gentleman was introduced and initiated iuto the mysteries of the first degree . Bro . Alexander Halcomb P . M . No . 90 waa then balloted for as a joining member and accepted . The W . M . then

referred to tho death of Bro . Charles Horsley , one of the oldest members of the Lodge , and on his motion being seconded by Bro . W . H . Saunders , the Secretary was requested to tako note of this and forward a letter of condolence to Bro . Alexander Horsley , nephew of the deceased brother . At tho instance of tho W . M . tho Lodge then accorded a hearty welcome to Past Master Knaggs , whom they were

glad to receive once more on his return f rom . a visit to Natal , and Bro . Knaggs appropriately acknowledged the complimont . It waa next proposed by the W . M . and seconded by Bro . Knaggs that a Past Master ' s jewel bo presented to Bro . W . H . Saunders in recognition of his services to the Lodgo during his occupancy of tho chair . Note wa 3 taken of the custom now prevailing in many Lodges of presenting

these jewels indiscriminately to all Masters on the completion of their term of office , and also of the rule of the Francis Burdett Lodge that such token of appreciation should only ba awarded to those brethren who had distinguished themselves by their ability . Afc the same time it was pointed out by the proposed seconder of the motion , as well as by a Past Master who spoke in support of it , that Bro .

Saunders , if he had exhibited no marked ability in tho fulfilment of his duties , had shown himself jealous of the honour of the Lodge and had distinguished himself in other respects in a manner well worthy of recognition . The motion having been put and carried with acclamation , Bro . Saunders , in acknowledging the compliment , expressed the surprise he felt afc the proposal . He fully recognised

that he did not possess the knowledge which a Master of the Lodge should display of the oftentimes arduous duties he was called upon to perform . But he would yield to no brother in hi 3 zeal to carry out tho true principles of Freemasonry ; he had shown this by having qualified as a Life Governor of all the Institutions . After a brief reference to the votes for the coming election for the Boys' School , ifc

was proposed , seconded , and carried , that the sum of five guineas voted at the last meeting towards the Stewards' List for the Girls ' School , be increased to £ 10 , and a similar sum will be forthcoming for the Boys' Festival , the Stewards themselves having promised to double their own contributions . This will raise the Lodge contributions for the current year to the central Charities to £ 30 . The other

bnsiness having been disposed of , the Lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to banquet . In due course , the Master rose , and proposed the customary toasts , and in offering that of Colonel Burdetfc , the Prov . G . M ., he trusted they should have the honour of welcoming him at some future gathering . Bro . Taylor also alluded to the great services to Freemasonry rendered by Bro . H . 0 . Levander , whose

absence was also a subject of great regret to the Lodge . Bro . Rushworth returned thanks , and with reference to the compliment paid Bro . Levander spoke in eulogistic terms of that brothsr ' s services in connection with the Lodge . Bro . Saunders having also replied , and in doing so explained the reason of the Prov . G . M . ' 3 absence , proposed tho health of the W . M ., and paid him a high but well-deserved

comolimentfor the very efficient manner in which ho fulfilled tho imporpant duties of his office . This having been responded to , the health of tho Initiate was duly honoured , and Bro . Powell expressed the pleasure he felt afc having been admitted into the fellowship of Freemasonry . The toast of the Visitors was received , as usual , with great cordiality , and each of those who were present in that capacity acknowledged in
