the next toast . He said : With great pleasure I rise to propose tho next toast . We aro taught early in our Masonic career that Charity is the distinguishing characteristic of a Freemason's heart . I ask yon , now that onr hearts aro filled with tho success of to-night , to extend your love and kindly froling toward tho other Institutions . I hope that on the occasion of the Boys' Festival in June , your President
may be as well supported , the gallery as well adorned , and lastly that the exchequer of the Institution may be as greatly augmented as on tho present occasion . In tho absence of Bro . Binckes , Bro . Terry was called upon to respond , and in doing so , he said : In the first place , allow me to congratulate tho Institution for Girls , which has attained such a splendid result to-night . While they all had the hononrablo desire of emulating each other in the result of
the Festivals , I venture to hope that Bro . Binckes , who is away in Kent , will be able to annonnce in June next a snm in excess of that reached either by Bro . Hedges or myself . Three years ago the Benevolent Institution had hoped to have had the pleasure of the presidency of your Eoyal Highness , and when you say that this is a proud moment , I hope a prouder one is in store for you , when you shall preside at the Festival of tho Benevolent Institution . ings of all tho Institutions . Prince Leopold proposed the next toast . The last toast that will fall to my lot to propose is that of the Stewards of the day . I feel almost inclined to call this the toast of the evening , for indeed the welfare of the Institution 13 in many ways dependent on the exertions put forth by the Stewards in securing largo subscription list 3 . I beg to thank them , both on behalf of
myself , and also for the Girls' School , for whioh they have worked . I wonld call your attention to the fact that the Lord Mayor of London has this year leut his name , a fact that adds to the lustre of tho high office he so worthily fills . The Lord Mayor in acknow . ledging the toast said , on behalf of the Stewards I have to acknowledge this toast . The success of the day has been mainly dependent on Bro . Sir John Monckton and those who have assisted him . Together
the Stewards havo succeeded in collecting the largest amount ever raised for this Institution , but remembering that we have the largest number of Stewards that ever took part in one of our Festivals we ought not to be snrprised at the result . Sir J . Monckton proposed the health of the Ladies : —On these occasions it is onr custom and onr privilege to toast the ladies , whom we esteem , honour and love . Bro . Frank Eichardson acknowledged the toa 3 t , after which the brethren repaired to the Temple where the nsual musical entertainment waa provided .
