Owing to the demands on us this week , and taking into consideration the amount of space already devoted to the Girls' School , we have decided to hold over our Analysis of the Subscription List until onr next issue .
We tako this opportunity of offering our respectful tribute of sympathy to Bro . Buss , our esteemed Assistant Grand Secretary , on the domestic affliction he experienced in the early part of the pi-esenfc week . Bro . Buss , during his long Masonic career , has shown himself a diligent and
enthusiastic Craftsman , and when some two years since he received the appointment of Assistant Grand Secretary , every one felt that a well-deserved honour had been conferred on a worthy and representative Freemason . It has been known for some little timo past that Mrs . Buss was in a
very critical state of health , and that thero was little hope or prospect of hor recoveiy . These sad expectations have at length been realised , and ifc has pleased the Great Architect of the Universe to remove her hence to another , and , we trust , a happier , state of being . Bnfc the loss of a
dear friend , and especially of one who for many years has been the partner in all one ' s joys and sorrows , cannot be otherwise than seriously felt , and will always evoke the deep sympathy of friends , relatives , and acquaintances . In the case of Bro . Buss this feeling will be more than
usually extended , seeing that , from the official position he occupies , he is brought into frequent contact with the members of our Fraternity , all of whom , we are confident , will sorrow with him in his sorrows , as they have rejoiced
with him in his joys . We trust this slight expression of our own feeling will be accepted in the same fraternal spirit in which it is made , and that , as timo passes , Bro . Buss will find his grief assuaged , if , in the nature of things , it cannot be entirelv buried .
The Editor , being interested in the election of Woolf de Youug , who is a candidate for the Jewish Aged Needy Society , will thankfully receive the proxies of the readers of the FREEMASON ' CHRONICLE , either for exchange or otherwise .
MESSRS . LETTS SON AND CO . LIMITED , are now issuing in monthly parts an Atlas , that promises to merit the title " Popular " which has been assigned to it . Each monthly issue is to comprise three maps , 17 by 14 , printed in colours and enclosed in wrapper , the price for the same being 7 d each part . The maps we have seen certainly commend themselves to special notice , several characteristics being
particularly noticeable , among others that of colouring the ocean 3 according to their depths , and we understand it i 3 proposed to indicate the population and important localities in a similar manner . Many other novelties are introduced , such as the introduction of the main lines of submarine and overland telegraph communication , the positions of lighthouses , & a , and altogether we can pronounce the maps
as particularly good . It is further announced that mounted copies of tho map will be prepared , but for this and further particulars we would refer onr readers to their news agent or the publishers , in London . We may add that Messrs . Letts offer prizes amounting to £ 100 extending over tho current year , for copies of these maps or parts of them , thereby hoping to encourage the attainment of geograp hical knowledge by a largo class of . the community .
