Henry Smith responding said the warm reception which had been accorded hiin was a distinct encouragement to him to persevere iu the endeavour ho intended to make to maintain tbo Lodge in the samo eminent position to which it had attained .

Brother T . L . Wilkinson proposed the health of the Installing Master Sir John Monckton , who had performed , he said , for the 120 th timo the interesting ceremony which thoy had witnessed with so much satisfaction and admiration that evening . On fourteen or fifteen occasions Sir John had installed tho Master of the

Alliance Lodge . No wonder tha . he should have risen to the high rank he had in Masonry , or that his name as a Mason should be world wide . It was entirely due to the fostering care of Sir John Monckton , and the interest he had taken in all that concerned the Lodge , that the Alliance Lodge had risen to the high position it occupied among the Lodges of England .

Sir John , acknowledging the toast , thanked the Deputy Grand Registrar for his kindly reference to the Alliance Lodge . This was the sixteenth year of its existence . He was glad to say that the whole of their Past Masters were living , and out of the sixteen some twelve or thirteen were present that evening . He thought he might therefore claim for the members of the Alliance Lodge that they were a distinctly lively and long-lived lot .

Bro . H . Clarke gave the Visitors , to which Bro . E . E . Phillips and Bro . Easterbrook replied . Bro . Under-Sheriff Phillips proposed the health of the Past Masters , to which Bro . Alderman Green and Bro . E . Garnelman , who left England on Saturday on his return to Rangoon , where he occupies a judicial position , responded .

Captain Vickers Dunfee acknowledged the toast of tho Officers , and the proceedings terminated . o o o

AT the Annual Installation meeting , held at the Argyle Rooms , Littlehampton , on the 15 th . inst ., Bro . Alfred Lloyd was installed W . M . for the ensuing year . On the closing of the Lodge the Brethren adjourned to the White Hart Hotel , whero thoy sat down to a banquet under the presidency of the newly-installed W . M . o o o

rpHIS Lodge , which meets at Callington , has unanimously JL elected Bro . W . W . Dymond W . M . Bro . C . T . Pearce was also unanimously elected Treasurer for the thirty-ninth year , and Bro . T . C . Betty was appointed Almoner . The Festival of St . John the Evangelist will be held , says the " Western Morning News , " on 10 th December , when Bro . Dymond will bo installed , and the banquet served at Bro . G . T . Lakeman ' s .

ON the 15 th inst ., the members celebrated the festival of St . John the Evangelist , at Glossop . The Installation of Bro . W . H . Irlam as Worshipful Master was performed at the Town Hall , by Bro . J . G . Hodgson the retiring

W . M ., who was assisted by several Past Masters of the Lodge . Bro . J . E . Steward P . M . 336 P . P . G . J . D . Cheshire afterwards invested the Officers for the ensuing year . A banquet subsequently took place at the Town Hall .

o o o HARTINGTON LODGE , No . 916 . THE Installation meeting took place at the Queen ' s Hotel , Eastbourne , on the 16 th , when Bro . Benson was installed as W . M . and appointed his Officers .

Afterwards the Brethren dined together under the presidency of the W . M ., who was supported by a number of distinguished Officers of the Province . o o o

A VERY interesting gathering of Brethren , with wives and lady friends , was held on Saturday , 10 th in & t ., at the Midway Hotel , Levenshulme , under the presidency of Brother W . H . Bibby Worshipful Master . Tea was provided in the large room at five o'clock , after which it was arranged in the style of a drawing room , and songs were given during the evening by Miss He \ wood , of Longsight , and Bro .

Hmchchffe , in each case very effectively , and being much appreciated . Bro . J . H . Greenwood caused much amusement with his " Trips to the Isle of Man , " and " The showman , " both of which were given with vigour and were highly successful . The reading of Bro . Ward , " The Turkish Bath , " was very laughable , and Bro . Ridgway ' s version of the " House that Jack built" and " Quack Doctor " was much enjoyed .

The toast of the Ladies was given by the Worshipful Master , and responded to on their behalf by Brother Ward with a suitable speech . , The next toast was " Long life to our Worshipful Master and his wife , " Bro . Allitt paid Bro . Bibby a high tribute of esteem on behalf of the Brethren of the Lodge .

Great praise is due to Bro . and Mrs . Cader , the host and hostess of the Hotel , for the manner in which they provided the tea and refreshments . Thus the second gathering of this kind proved highly successful .

Bro . Walker sang " God savo tho Queen , " and the company dispersed . Bro . Hopkinson presided very effectively at the piano throughout the evening .

o o o STOUR VALLEY LODGE , No . 1224 . ON Wednesday , the members held their Annual Installation at the Lodge Rooms , Sudbury , the W . M . Brother G . F . Hawkins presiding .

There was a large muster of the Craft , including Brother W . C . Quilter , M . P . The Installing Master was Brother Rev . Charles J . Martyn D . P . G . M ., and the Brother chosen to fill the post of W . M . for the ensuing year was Bro . Robert Sizer Joy , J . P .

Brother Martyn impressively conducted the ceremony of Installation . The ceremony over , the Brethren adjourned to the Rose and Crown Hotel , where they dined together . Subsequently the usual toast list was proceeded with .

The health of Brother W . Cuthbert Quilter , M . P ., was warmly received , and was acknowledged by that Brother in his usual genial manner . Our Charities was proposed by Bro . F . Wheeler and supported by Brother C . J . N . Row . A whip was sent round , and a sum of £ 19 6 s was subscribed . When the amount was announced one

WALDEN LODGE , No . 1280 . THE installation banquet took place at the Rose and Crown Hotel , Saffron Walden , on the 12 th inst ., Bro . C . G . Payne being the new W . M . Bro . Herbert Gardner , Minister of Agriculture , was present . o o o

AT a full meeting of thc Lodge , held in the Masonic Hall , Crediton , Bro . F . S . Sprague , a P . M . of the Lodge , was presented with a solid silver salver on his leaving the town , where ho has resided for the past sixteen years as manager of the Devon and Cornwall Bank . He has been promoted to a similar position at Tavistock .

In the absence of W . M . Bro . B . C . Cleave , the presentation was made by Bro . J . C . Hoskins P . M ., who was supported by Bro . W . B . Berry P . M . and Bro . J . F . Railing P . M . The salver bore the following inscription : —
