After a short interval labour was resumed , nnd the Lodgo advanced to the third degree ; whereupon Bro . Pearson kindly offered himself as a candidate to be raised to the sublime degree ; and Bro . M . for the satisfactory way in which he had carried out his important duties during his year of office . Great effect was given to the
business of the evening by the excellent manner in which the several odes , chants , & c , were rendered by the choir , consisting of Bros . Stroud , Knight , Pearman , and Grant . The bnsiness at the Star Hotel being concluded , tho whole of the brethron adjourned to the India Arms , where a splendid banquet was served by Mr . Newmnn . A steam launch was provided at 11 p . m . for the convenience of brethren living on the Portsmouth side of the harbour .
