haci been sent by Sir Bartle Frore on a mission to the Kinoof the Malebelc tribe . They , with several of their attend dants , were poisoned by impregnated water , but there is no reason to believe that there was any treachery on tbe part of the natives .

The trial of the late directors of the City of Glasgow Bank was commenced on Monday , before the _ High Court of Justiciary at Edinburgh . A preob to the

liminary jection indictment vas taken by the counsel for the accused , bat was overruled by the Court , and the trial is pro 'eedinp-. Charles Peace , who is under sentence of penal servitude for life for burglaries at Blackheatb . was to have

been re-examined at Sheffield on Wednesday npon a charge of murder committed three years ago . During the railway journey from London he threw himself from the carriage , but was recaptured , and his injuries are not believed to be dangerous .

Ihe American pedestrian Weston at midnight on Friday commenced a walk from London , which is to extend over 2 , 000 miles , to be completed within 1 , 000 consecutive hours , but resting on Sundays , and also to deliver lectures in fifty

towns . His first day ' s journey was to Folkestone , which he reached at 8 . 40 p . m . ou Saturday . Since then he has visited Eastbourne , Brighton , Portsmouth , and Winchester , and is to reach Plymouth to-night .

A tenant upon the Leitrim estate was on Tuesday stopped on the road by armed men near the spot where the late Earl was murdered , but they allowed him to pass , expressing regret that it was not the agent for the estate whom they had encouutered .

A coroner ' s inquest was held on Friday upon the body of Mr . E . M . Ward , the eminent painter and R . A . The jury returned a verdict of " Suicide whilst of unsound mind . "

Commercial Convention for one year has been signed between France and Austria , mutually conferring the rights of the most favoured nation in treaties existing between each Power and other countries . The negotiations for the rectification of the Greek frontier are about to begin , both the

Greek and Turkish Commissioners having reached Anina , where the discussions are to be carried on . The election of the future Prince of Bulgaria is exciting considerable agitation in that State , and the Russian re presentatives complain of the coldness with which the sacrifices of Russia on behalf
