WAYFARER'S LODGE , MALTA .
THE first installation meeting of the above Lodge took place at the Masonio Hall , Valetta , Malta , on the 27 th ult . The W . Mand Officers of St . John and St . Paul's Lodge , No . 1349 , having opened their Lodge , the-Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master Bro . W . Kingston was received with the customary honours , and forthwith proceeded , with the usual ceremonies , to instal tho W . M .
Designate of the new Lodge , Bro . Geo . D . Roe ( Sergt .-Major R . E . ) P . M . 1604 in the chair of K . S ., the Board of Installed Masters numbering thirteen . The installation having been duly completed , the W . M . invested his Officers as follow : —Bros . J . S . Abbott ( School Master R . A . ) S . W ., D . C . Wilson ( Sergt .-Major R . A . ) J . M . 349 , in replying on behalf of his Lodge , testified to the cordial feelings of 349 towards theLodge just floated , and assured the W . M . ( Bro . Roe ) that the Officers and members of 349 would be only too p leased at any time to assist the Wayfarers in any way ; but ho felt sure that no assistance was likely to be needed by a Lodge started so auspiciously , and under such competent Officers . The W . M . next
proposed a vote of thanks to the Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master Bro . Kingston for attending , at some personal inconvenience , to instal the first W . M . of the Lodge , and for the highly efficient and impressive manner in which the ceremony had been performed . The Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master in reply expressed his gratification at being present , and alluded to the fact of the Lodges under his jurisdiction having now reached the mystic number of seven , whereas when he first became D . G . M . there were but three in the district .
Right Worshipful Bro . Kingston proceeded to express his confidence in the ability of the newly installed Master ( Bro . Roe ) to govern his Lodge , with credit to himself and satisfaction to the brethren , advising him at the same time that a judicious combination of firmness and suavity , an appearance of leading rather than driving , was always preferable to mere dogmatism . He
coneluded a most excellent address by saying that , as a member of all the Lodges in the district , he tendered all their hearty good wishes for the prospects and success of the Wayfarers . V . W . Bro . the Chevalier Rosenbusch Dep . D . G . Master stated that he fully endorsed all that had been said by his R . W . colleague , and that he should , afc all and any time , esteem it a pleasure to render service
or assistance in his power to the Wayfarers . W . Bros . S . G . Yeoman W . M . 407 D . G . Reg ., Austin P . M . 158 , Watson P . M . 315 , and G . Crabtree W . M . The meeting was attended by over eighty brethren , comprising nearly
the whole of the Fraternity on the Island . The military brethren taking part in the formation of the new Lodge-had decorated the halls , staircases , and other rooms , with flowers , evergreens , and bunting , in a most artistic manner . After the conclusion of the business of the evening , the brethren adjourned to a well furnished table , suited to the almost tropical heat of the evening , where , after
due refreshment , many excellent speeches were made , which space at our disposal precludes our adequately noticing . Suffice it to say that R . W . Bro . Kingston D . G . M ., V . W . Bro . the Chevalier Rosenbusch , W . Bros . Coffey , Watson , Crabtree , and others , all spoke in most hopeful terms of the future prospects of the Wayfarers . Much
mirth was caused during the evening by the amusing tricks of a well known military brother , of Lodge 349 , who displayed his qualifications as an artiste in legerdemain . The Wayfarers Lodge has been inaugurated under a provisional Warrant granted by the D . G . Master , and is intended to be limited to Commissioned , Warrant , and Non-Commissioned Officers of H . M . Army .
