npon new quarters , at the " Sisters" Tavern , Pownall Road , Dalston ; wo also stated that Tnesday , the 21 st inst ., was appointed for the first meeting . In making tho latter portion of this statement it seems wo wero iu error , as it had been settled that Tuesday next , the 28 th inst ., was tho date arranged for the first business mooting . However , on Tuesday last several of tho members assembled , and

although no Masonic work was performed , Masonic matters wero profitably discussed , and an hour spent in social converse , which all who wero present will remember with feelings of pleasure . On Tuesday next Bro . J . Ashburner will preside , and during the evening the Installation Ceremony will be rehearsed by Bro . Wallington , P . M . of tho Mother Loclgo . Several well known brethren havo promised to

attend , and we anticipate a considerable gathering . A slight repast will be provided for those who may desire to refresh the inner man after tho business of tho evening has been transacted . Upton Lodge , No . 1227 . —Met at the Spotted Dog , Upton , Essex , on Thursday , tho 16 th inst . Present—Bros . D . Posener W . M ., Brown S . W . ( W . M . elect ) , Wayland Treas ., A . W . Fenner acting Sec , Lyons J . W ., Webster S . D ., Oldroyd J . D ., Andrews I . G ., Gullick Tyler ; P . M . 's G . T . English , E . W . Goddard , B . Picking , G . Bratton , A . Lorlge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet , which was supplied by Mrs . Vanse in her nsual excellent style , and to which ample justice was done . Tho

Lodge was opened in due form , and the

Lowe then worked the sections of the lecture , assisted by tho brethren . The Lodge-room has lately been beautifully decorated , and offers every comfort to brethren visiting . It is hoped that those residing in the neighbourhood will avail themselves of the instruction which they can obtain at this Lodgo .

The impressive ceremony of consecration waa ably performed by tho Provincial Grand Supevin . tondent , who , in tho cottrso of his oration , dwelt on tho

necessity that existed for all new Chapters to look carefully to the quality of the materials to be used in tho construction of tho new Temple if thoy would have the edifice a lasting one . He then proceeded to instal the following as the officers of the new Chapter : —Comps . John McGhie Z ., Jas . Cameron H ., Thos . F . Mark J ., giving them tho usual charges . To savo time he then retired

with somo of the other principals present to give them the installed degrees of their respective chairs , whilo Comp . J . Mitchell installed the remaining office bearers in open Chapter , namely—George Johnson Scribo E ., John Bannerman Scribe N ., Alex . Sheriff T ., Jas . Hunter 1 st Sojourner , W . H . Lindsay Crawford 2 nd Sojourner , David Anderson 3 rd Sojourner . At the conclusion of tho ceremony Comp

McGhie briefly but gracefully thanked M . E . Comp . Barrow and his office bearers for coming out to Hamilton to consecrate the Chapter and instal himself and Comps . Tho P . G . S . expressed tho pleasure he felt at all times to be useful in any department of Masonry , and the additional pleasure it gave him to instal such worthy Comps . as the new Z . and his officers . The Provincial Grand Chapter then retired ,

most of them returning to Glasgow ; but ab the request of Comp . McGhie , as the wholo of the members of the new Chapter were all very yonng Royal Arch Masons , the members of Chapter 73 remained to work the three ceremonies for them . Comp . G . W . Wheeler Z . of 73 then opened a Lodgo of Mark Masters , with J . Bannerman as S . W ., D . Gilchrist P . Z . as J . W ., J . Mclunes S . D ., J . Pollock J . D .,

Pitt I . G . and W . Jamieson O . G ., when petitions were presented from nine Master Masons of Lodge 233 . That degree was conferred on Bros . Thomas Sheriff , David Page , John Dolguire , V / illiam McMachon , William Firmberg , James Whyburn , John Findlay , William Fowler , and W . H . Bolt . A Lodge of Most Excellent Masters was opened , and tho same nine gentlemen received that degree afc

the hands of Comp . Thomas M . Campbell . Comp . Wheeler then opened the Chapter , with D . Gilchrist P . Z . as H ., T . M . Campbell as J ., G . Johnson S . E ., J . Bannerman S . N . j James Balfour P . G . S . E ., taking the post of 1 st Sojourner , J . Mclnnes 2 nd Sojourner , and James Hunter 3 rd Sojourner , and the Most Excellent Masters were exalted to the Holy Royal Arch degree . The Chapter then unani .

monsly agreed to confer honorary affiliation on the officers who had been working these degrees , along with Comps . Pollock of 73 , and Robertson of 87 . The new : Z . saying , that ho and all his office bearers , as well as the candidates to-night , had been exalted b y Comp . Wheeler ; the latter in his reply said , if Comp . McGhie was prond to call himself a member of 73 , he , as their representative ,

was proud of tho sons of 73 , who had formed themselves into 172 ; and in return for tho honour conferred on him , he would try , as a member of 172 , to make his cable tow occasionally stretch as far as Hamilton . Companions T . M . Campbell and Robinson also briefl y acknowledged the hononr conferred on them by being admitted as honorary members of 172 . After this protracted labour , the Comps .

adjourned for refreshment , and great credit is due to Comp . James Hunter , tho worthy host of the Royal Hotel , for the way in which ho catered for the enjoyment of tho visitors . Tho toast of the Supreme and Provincial Grand Chapters having been given , Comp . J . Balfour P . G . S . E . replied for tho latter . He said he might take some credit for the formation of the new Chapter , as Comp . McGhie had first applied to him to know how to proceed , and he had himself proposed him and most of his office bearers for exaltation ; he felt sure

from their Masonic standing , that they would succeed . Comp . T . M . Campbell proposed the New Chapter and its Principals . Comp . McGhie said ho had twice presided as the Master of a Lodge , but he almost doubted of his capacity to fill the 1 st Principal ' s chair of a Chapter ; he would trust to their indulgence and the promised aid of the Comps . of his Mother Chapter . He then proposed the Visitors . Comp . Qt , W . Wheeler replied , and proposed the other Officers of the

necessity that existed for all new Chapters to look carefully to the quality of the materials to be used in tho construction of tho new Temple if thoy would have the edifice a lasting one . He then proceeded to instal the following as the officers of the new Chapter : —Comps . John McGhie Z ., Jas . Cameron H ., Thos . F . Mark J ., giving them tho usual charges . To savo time he then retired

with somo of the other principals present to give them the installed degrees of their respective chairs , whilo Comp . J . Mitchell installed the remaining office bearers in open Chapter , namely—George Johnson Scribo E ., John Bannerman Scribe N ., Alex . Sheriff T ., Jas . Hunter 1 st Sojourner , W . H . Lindsay Crawford 2 nd Sojourner , David Anderson 3 rd Sojourner . At the conclusion of tho ceremony Comp

McGhie briefly but gracefully thanked M . E . Comp . Barrow and his office bearers for coming out to Hamilton to consecrate the Chapter and instal himself and Comps . Tho P . G . S . expressed tho pleasure he felt at all times to be useful in any department of Masonry , and the additional pleasure it gave him to instal such worthy Comps . as the new Z . and his officers . The Provincial Grand Chapter then retired ,

most of them returning to Glasgow ; but ab the request of Comp . McGhie , as the wholo of the members of the new Chapter were all very yonng Royal Arch Masons , the members of Chapter 73 remained to work the three ceremonies for them . Comp . G . W . Wheeler Z . of 73 then opened a Lodgo of Mark Masters , with J . Bannerman as S . W ., D . Gilchrist P . Z . as J . W ., J . Mclunes S . D ., J . Pollock J . D .,

Pitt I . G . and W . Jamieson O . G ., when petitions were presented from nine Master Masons of Lodge 233 . That degree was conferred on Bros . Thomas Sheriff , David Page , John Dolguire , V / illiam McMachon , William Firmberg , James Whyburn , John Findlay , William Fowler , and W . H . Bolt . A Lodge of Most Excellent Masters was opened , and tho same nine gentlemen received that degree afc

the hands of Comp . Thomas M . Campbell . Comp . Wheeler then opened the Chapter , with D . Gilchrist P . Z . as H ., T . M . Campbell as J ., G . Johnson S . E ., J . Bannerman S . N . j James Balfour P . G . S . E ., taking the post of 1 st Sojourner , J . Mclnnes 2 nd Sojourner , and James Hunter 3 rd Sojourner , and the Most Excellent Masters were exalted to the Holy Royal Arch degree . The Chapter then unani .

monsly agreed to confer honorary affiliation on the officers who had been working these degrees , along with Comps . Pollock of 73 , and Robertson of 87 . The new : Z . saying , that ho and all his office bearers , as well as the candidates to-night , had been exalted b y Comp . Wheeler ; the latter in his reply said , if Comp . McGhie was prond to call himself a member of 73 , he , as their representative ,

was proud of tho sons of 73 , who had formed themselves into 172 ; and in return for tho honour conferred on him , he would try , as a member of 172 , to make his cable tow occasionally stretch as far as Hamilton . Companions T . M . Campbell and Robinson also briefl y acknowledged the hononr conferred on them by being admitted as honorary members of 172 . After this protracted labour , the Comps .

adjourned for refreshment , and great credit is due to Comp . James Hunter , tho worthy host of the Royal Hotel , for the way in which ho catered for the enjoyment of tho visitors . Tho toast of the Supreme and Provincial Grand Chapters having been given , Comp . J . Balfour P . G . S . E . replied for tho latter . He said he might take some credit for the formation of the new Chapter , as Comp . McGhie had first applied to him to know how to proceed , and he had himself proposed him and most of his office bearers for exaltation ; he felt sure

from their Masonic standing , that they would succeed . Comp . T . M . Campbell proposed the New Chapter and its Principals . Comp . McGhie said ho had twice presided as the Master of a Lodge , but he almost doubted of his capacity to fill the 1 st Principal ' s chair of a Chapter ; he would trust to their indulgence and the promised aid of the Comps . of his Mother Chapter . He then proposed the Visitors . Comp . Qt , W . Wheeler replied , and proposed the other Officers of the
