aud Groom wero passed to the second degree ) , and also tho minutes of the regular Lodge were read and confirmed . ' Ballots were taken for the admission of Messrs . H . Foster and 0 . Parnacott , which were in their favour . The former gentleman being present , was initiated into the Order by tho W . M . Tbe report of the Audit Committee was read and adopted ; it showed a balance in the hands of the Treasurer of nearly £ 70 . The W . M . stated ho was a Steward for the E . M . Benevolent Institution at the next Anniversary Festival , where
H . E . H . Prince Leopold would tako the chair , and he hoped that he should be supported by the brethren of the Lodge on that occasion ; also that they , by their contributions , would assist that noble Institution . Before retiriag from the chair , he begged to return his grateful thanks to the worthy Treasurer , Bro . John Boyd , Bro . G . S . States Secretary , the Past Masters , and also to every officer , for all
had ably supported him during his year ox office . A Board of Installed Masters was then formed , and Bro . W . Moult was presented to the Lodge . Bro . T . Bull P . M . then showed his proficiency by Installing Bro . Moult into the chair ; receiving , as he deserved , at the conclusion of the ceremony , the commendations of all present . The W . In the event of this being carried , it shall not be enforced until March next . The W . M . then presented a jewel that had been unanimously voted to the retiring W . M . Bro . E . H . Thiellay , for the valuable services rendered by him to the Lodge . The jewel is of highly artistic construction , and boars an appropriate inscription . Bro . Thiellay returned thanks for tho elegant gift ; it would be a pleasing
recollection of the kindness and good feeling evinced to him by every brother in the Lodgo . The Lodge was then closed , and the brethren , 76 in number , adjourned to tho Crown Boom , where a sumptuous banquet and dessert was supplied by Bro . Dawkins . Grace having been sang , by Bro . Seymour Smith , G . Carter , Miss Florence Lavender and Miss Ellen Webb , the W . M . proposed tho toast of "The
Queen and the Craft , " also that of "the M . W . G . M . his Eoyal Highness the Princo of Wales . " Miss Florenco Lavender sang , with great taste and feeling , " Sweet Spirit , hear my Prayer , " which was loudly and deservedly applauded ; she also , iu response to the loud calls of the brethren , sang " Tell Mo , my Heart , " with equal taste . The W . M . in proposing the toast of the Pro Grand Master ,
the Deputy Grand Master , and tho rest of tho Grand Officers , alluded to tho hononr conferred on tho Lodge by having one of ils members selected for the post of a Grand Officer ; he referred to Bro . John Boyd P . G . P . aud Grand Steward , who was one they only required to know to respect . ( Cheers ) . Bro . John Boyd , in his usual eloquent manner , returned thanks , he reminded the brethren that the hour was
getting late , so he would not occupy their time ; he passed deserved eulogiums on those distinguished brethren who were at the head of the Order , he felt proud in responding on their behalf . Miss Eliza Webb sang a verry pretty song , entitled the " Three Fishers . " Bro . E . H . Thiellay I . P . M . then rose and said , it was a pleasure to him , uow , for the first time , to claim his privilege , and to propose the toast of the
W . M . ( Cheers ) . They had seen his working in the various offices he had filled ; he was one worthy of their respect . He could say more in praise , but as the W . M . progressed they would see his good qualities . Bro . Carter sang " Sweethearts , " in his usual excellent style . The W . M . suitably replied , and before resuming his seat , proposed a special toast , —tho Health of an old ftnd respected Brother ,
whose name and services rendered to the Craft merited their respect . Bro . W . Watson P . M . P . G . S . had been Preceptor to this and many other Lodges ; he had devoted his time and energies to Freemasonry , and , as he was present at this installation , he hoped to see him at many a future one . " Wind that Blows , " being received with even greater applause than her former one . The W . M . in proposing the toast of the Initiates , said , they had been fortunate in initiating that evening , also at the emergency meeting , gentlemen who he was proud to see among them . comprised the rehearsing of the first ceremony by the W . M ., tho ceremony of installation by Bro . John Constable P . M . and Treasurer , after which Bro . Abbott proceeded to address the Lodge upon tho history of Freemasonry , in continuation of his former lectures . He carried the account from 1730 to the commencement of thp year 1736 , tracing the principal events that occurred during tho Grand Master .

Ho laid particular stress upon the introduction of Freemasonry into America , mentioning the results of the latest researches in reference thereto ; ho further traced tho extension of
Freemasonry to different countries on tho Continent of Europe and other parts , also dwelt on tho dissensions that arose amongst English Craftsmen , which ultimately led to the unfortunate schism which extended to tho period of the Union in 1813 . Tho lecture was shorter than had been intended , owing to the business of tho evening having been unusually protracted . We noticed tho groat attention
that was paid to Bro . Abbott's exposition , tho facts of which , however interesting and important they may be , aro of necessity somewhat trying to recount .
