After balloting for initiates , and joining members , the Lodge was opened in the second degree . There was on the agenda paper a candidate for raising , but as he did not put in an
appearance , the acting W . M . resigned his gavel into the hands of the Installing Master , to whom was presented Bro . Stephen Augustus Pocock , who had been unanimously elected to occupy tho chair of K . S . After proceeding with tho ceremony to the end of the second degree , the Lodge was opened in the third degree , immediately after which the Board of Past Masters waa formed , in which the ceremony
of installation was completed , in Bro . Moxhay s usual correct and impressive manner . After being saluted in each degree , the W . M . returned thanks , and invested his officers : Bro . A . M . Yetts I . P . M ., Baker S . W ., Oades J . W ., Eev . N . G . Garry Chaplain , Botley P . M . Treasurer , Leaver Secretary , S . Bradley S . D ., C Stephens J . D ., Ferguson D . Hemmings Tyler . Upon the completion of the investiture , the Installing Master , with more than his usual fervency , gave some impressive addresses . The musical and vocal accompaniment materially added to tho effect of the beautiful ceremonies . The business of tho evening being completed , the Lodge was closed , and tho brethren retired for refreshment to the George Hotel , where a
sumptuous banquet was provided , to which about sixty of the Fraternity sat down , under the presidency of Bro . Pocock W . M ., who discharged the duties of the chair with becoming effect . The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts wero given and responded to , accompanied by the vocal and instrumental music for which this , the senior Lodge , is celebrated . In reply to the toast of the Visitors , Bro . Buss P . M . 1293
P . G . J . W . Middlesex , expressed his great pleasure at seeing the son of his' old friend , the late Bro . Pocock P . G . S . D . of England , and P . Prov . G . Secretary of Sussex , installed into the chair of this highly respectable Lodge . He Celt assured , from what he had seen of tho working that evening , the members of the Lodge would be satisfied with the choice they had made . Bro . Dr . Woodhouse , P . P . D . G . M .
Berkshire , replied to the toast of the P . G . Officers Past and Present , and referred with pride to the wonderful advance made b y Freemasonry daring the past few years . The health of the Chaplain of the Lodge , Bro . the Eev . N . G . Gurry , was proposed by Bro . C Stephens J . D ., and , in reply , the . Eev . Bro . said he had for some years been desirous of becoming a member of the Craft ( he was at present only a
juvenile ) , but the desire had been quickened by a recent event , which showed that thero was a determination on tho part of a foreign potentate to interfere with the rights of conscience , and he ( Bro . Garry ) joined the Order as a protest against this interference . He also said it had been a great pleasure to him to be a Mason , because it enlarged the circle of his friends . The " Masonic Charities" was
proposed by Bro . Morris P . M ., who made an urgent appeal to the members of the Lodgo to contribute liberally . Bro . Biggs P . M . Prov . G . Secretary , responded , and stated that last year £ 39 , 000 was subscribed in support of the throe chief Masonic Charities . Among the other toasts were those of "Tho Worshipful Master , " "The immediate and other Past Masters of tho Lodge of Union . " "The
Installing Master , Bro . Moxhay . " * ' The Worshipful Master , Officers , and Brethren of the Grey Friars Lodgo 1101 , the Treasurer and Officers ot the Lodge of Union . Koester , and a Board of Installed Masters was opened . Bro . Seeker was then installed into tho chair by the retiring W . M ., Bro . Stammitz , in a very excellent and perfect manner . Bro . XV . Gauz presided at the oraan , nnd added to the

Stammitz , with a gold P . M . s jewel . In presenting it he would remark , that there was no one who had ever occupied the chair who had performed his duties more satisfactorily . The Lodge was then closed , and tho brethren sat down to a sump * tuous banquet a la Eusse , provided by Bro . Nicols . Grace having been said , and the cloth removed , the W . M . proposed the toast of tho
" Queen and the Craft . " The National Anthem was sung , Bro . Ganz accompanying on tho piano . The toast of H . E . H . the M . W . G . M . was next given , and was followed by that of tho Earl of Carnarvon Pro G . M ., the Deputy G . M . Lord Skelmersdale , and the rest of the Grand Officers . He was pleased to see among them Bro . Albert G . P ., and also Bro . Ganz P . G . O . He would call on those brethren to
respond to the toast . Bro . Albert returned thanks . The Grand Officers were always willing to render assistance , whether in Grand Lodge or in any private Lodge where their services were required . The selection of Bro . Ganz was a proof of the respect in which this Lodgo is held . Bro . W . Ganz P . G . O . followed . He endorsed all tho remarks made by Bro . Albert . If he was not eloquent at the
present time with his tongue , ho hoped he would please them with his fingers . He then played a charming new galop of his own com . position , which elicited deserved applause . Bro . Stammitz I . P . M ., had now to propose the toast of the evening— " The W . M . " ( Cheers . ) Bro . Seeker was one who was capable of every duty that was required of him , and he hoped he would have
health during his occupancy of the chair , they would then see the excellent selection the brethren had made . ( Cheers . ) The W . M . said he was initiated in this Lodge , and he had aspired to become its Master . He urged the junior members to work diligently , they might then occupy the position he now held . Mention had been made of the Charities ; he was a Steward for the next Anniversary Festival
of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , a Charity that needs and deserves support ; he would be pleased to place the name of any brother on his list . The W . M . then proposed the toast of the Visitors . He was proud to see them , they had never had so numerous an assemblage before , he would ask the brethren to do full honour to the toast , he would call on Bros . Frend P . G . S ., Jahn , and
H . M . Levy to respond . These brethren , in the course of their re . marks , testified to the admirable manner in which the ceremony of installation had been rendered ; to the hospitality they had received , and to the presence of the goodly band of Past Masters , who had so materially contributed to the comfort of the Lodge and the welfare of the members . The W . M . then proposed the health of the I . P . M , ,
he hoped it would be received with the fervour it merited ; that brother was one who deserved every praise ; wherever he goes he ia welcome ; his time was always at their service . In placing a jewel on his breast , he hoped he would live long to wear it , it was given with heartfelt sincerity by every brother in the Lodgo . ( Cheers . ) Bro . Stammitz returned thanks for the valuable gift , and thanked
tho officers for the kind assistance they had always rendered him . In proposing tho toast of tho Past Masters of the Salisbury Lodge , the W . M . said they were a host in themselves . They were always ready to give thoir help . He coupled with the toast the name of Bro . W . Ganz . Bro . W . Ganz said he had belonged to the Lodge 10 years , and he hoped to be a member of it as long as he lived . He knew
andappreciated the unanimity of feelingthatexisted among them . He regretted the absence of Bro . Stohwasser , but he hoped he would be among them on the next occasion . It was his opinion they had chosen a very good W . M ., and he thanked the brethren for their kind expressions . Tho W . M . regretted the absence of the Treasurer , whose illness had prevented him beiug present . Bro . Secretary was indefatigable in his
duties . He hoped both these brethren would be among them for many years . In giving the toast of the Junior Officers , the W . M referred to the punctuality with which they attended to their duties .
