The " parts" of Senior Deacon and Junior Deacon wore apportioned respectively to the worthy brethren who held the emblems of Treasurer and Secrotary , but wo question whether this " doubling " is conformable with tho Book of Constitutions ; perhaps somo of our correspondents may feel inclined to givo ns their

views on this point . Doubtless the reason why members of Evening Star adopt this course is , that they desire Officers to go forward in rotation for tho Master ' s chair , bnt we repeat wo scarcely think they aro in order . Bro . Sugg then delivered tho addresses , and on taking his seat was complimented by the W . M . and visitors for tho ability he had displayed . On notice of motion by Bro . J . AV . Sugg D . C , a

P . M . ' s jewel was proposed to be given to Bro . Thos . N . Kirkham on hi 3 leaving tho chair , as a mark of respect from tho members . This was seconded by the W . M . Bro . John Aird , and unanimously agreed to ; Whereupon the presentation was formally made , and a suitable acknowledgment offered by Bro . Kirkham . Three new members wero then proposed , and tho Lodge closed , and was adjourned to tho

fourth Tuesday in March 1880 . The brethren and their guests now sat down to a capital banquet , which Bro . Best personally superintended ; ho was ably seconded by bis lieutenant , Bro . Dawkins , and justice was done to the good things provided . The after proceedings were of a highly gratifying character , tho W . M . presiding in a hearty and genial spirit ; the toasts were ably introduced , and

heartily acknowledged . Bro . Filer replied for the Grand Officers , and expressed regret that the ill-healfch of Bro . John Hervy Grand Secretary had prevented the attendance of that highly esteemed Mason . Bro . Kirkham proposed tho health of the AV . M ., who in his reply modestly remarked that ho would strive to uphold the dignity of the Lodgo , and respect tho wishes of its members . For the

Visitors Bro . Peirce acknowledged tho indebtedness of those present for tho courtesy and hospitality shown them . Bro . Kirkham responded for tho Past Masters , and the next toast that called for recognition wa 3 the health of the Installing Master . A featnre of the evening was the amusing and witty reply of Bro . Sugg , who for the nonce assumed tho character of Mrs . Gamp , and introduced

into his speech the peculiarities of that estimable lady . Wo should have liked to reproduce his verses in extenso , but pressure on onr space precludes our so doing . The Masonic Charities wero not overlooked , and Bro . AVinn in reply ably advocated their claims . The worthy Treasurer descanted ably on the duties pertaining to his office , most impressively urging ou the members that they should

never permit him to allow them to get in arreai' 3 with their subscriptions . Bro . AV . Sugg acknowledged the honour tbat had been paid the Officers by tho recognition tho Worshipful Master mado of thoir services , aud then Bro . Speight was called on for the final toast . Through some slight misunderstanding , a double company of musical

artistes assembled ; however , they were brothers , and in a brotherly spirit joined heart and voice to mako the evening pass off pleasantly . Ifc would be useless to ennnmcrate all the good songs , & c , that were sung , wo will therefore specially mention Bro . Edward Wharton ' s " Tho Mariners ; " Bro . H . Do Sollu's "Sally in onr Allev ; " Bvo .

Edwin Moss ' s "Only for thee ; " Bro . Charles Ohren ' s "Tho Gauntlet ; " the duet "Albion , " by Bros . Moss and Wharton . Miss Jessio Royd was in capital voice , and Mi-s Belville contributed to tho enjoyment of the gnosts . All were indebted to Bro . II . De Holla , who acted most efficiently as accompanyist .

THIS Lodge held its annual Festival and Installation meeting at the Guildhall Tavern , E . C , on Friday , the 20 th inst ., and although , from a variety of circumstances , the attendance was not so numerous as at former similar meetings , the entire proceedings were of a most satisfactory nature , and fully upheld the well-known reputation and prestige of the Lodgo as one of the principal exponents of the working of Mark Masonry . Thero being soveral talented professional brothren amongst its mombors , the meetings of tho Lodgo aro always characterised by excellent musical entertainments ,

under the direction of Bro . Cozens , and on this occasion nothing was wanting to secure tho pleasure and gratification of all present , Good order and correct working in the Lodge , nnder an ablo W . M ., a liberal table , provided by the esteemed Treasurer , Bro . Meggy , and excellent harmony , conducted by a skilled professor , always tend to make an Installation Festival of the Macdouald a treat in Mark Masonry not easily to bo found elsewhere .

CONSECRATION OF THE UNITED MANCHESTER LODGE OF ARK MARINERS , NO . 34 .

THIS Lodge , founded by several of th © leading Mark Masous in Manchester , and intended to unite still more closely in the bonds of friendship the three Mark Lodges of that city , was solemnly consecrated on Saturday th © 14 th inst ., by that well known master of ceremonial onr Bro . 0 . F . Matier 30 ° P . G . AV ., & o ., who was specially appointed by M . AV . G . M . M . M ., to officiate . The brethren of the Ark Mariners degree , viz ., Bros . C . F . MatierTho 3 . Entwisle

brethren below that , rank having retired , was formally installed as N . After tho readmis 3 iou of the brethreu Bro . Hearty good wishes were expressed from several brethren , and the Lodgo was closed in peace and harmony witb solemn prayer at 5 . p . m . The brethreu afterwards adjourned to refreshment , and a pleasant evening waa spent , all separating at an early hour .

Committee Meeting Of The Girls' School.

COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE GIRLS ' SCHOOL .

THE General Committee of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls was held on Thursday afternoon , at the Freemasons ' Hall . Thero were present—Bros . J . A . Rucker ( in the chair ) , H . A . Dubois , E . Letchwortb , Griffiths Smith , R . B . AVebster , H . Massey , James Peters , Edward Cox , H . Potter , J . J . Caney , and F . R . AV \ Hedges Secretary . After the reading and

confirmationof the minutes , five petitions were read , and the candidates were placed on the list for October . This list contains forty-eight names , out of which thero will be vacancies in the Institution for

eleven . A notice of motion , however , was given for Col . Creaton for adding another seven , and thus increase the number of elected children in the Institution 200 . The Committee , after some formal business , adjourned .

Royal Masonic Boys' School Cricket Club.

ROYAL MASONIC BOYS' SCHOOL CRICKET CLUB .

ON Wednesday , May 14 th , a match was played on the College House Ground , amid wretched weather , play being stopped several times during the afternoon . The match resulted in a walk over for the Masonic boys , by 137 runs to 29 . On Saturday , May 17 th , a game was played on tho School Ground with the boys of the Grocers' Company ' s School , victory again resting with tho M . C . C . The return

match with the latter team was played on the Alexandra Palace Ground , on Friday , 20 th inst ., when tbe Grocers were defeated a second time . Tho return match between the College House team was played on the C . H . C . C . Ground on tho 23 rd inst ., when the Masonic team succeeded in beating their oppouenfcs in au innings , with somo runs to spare .

COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE GIRLS ' SCHOOL .

THE General Committee of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls was held on Thursday afternoon , at the Freemasons ' Hall . Thero were present—Bros . J . A . Rucker ( in the chair ) , H . A . Dubois , E . Letchwortb , Griffiths Smith , R . B . AVebster , H . Massey , James Peters , Edward Cox , H . Potter , J . J . Caney , and F . R . AV \ Hedges Secretary . After the reading and

confirmationof the minutes , five petitions were read , and the candidates were placed on the list for October . This list contains forty-eight names , out of which thero will be vacancies in the Institution for

eleven . A notice of motion , however , was given for Col . Creaton for adding another seven , and thus increase the number of elected children in the Institution 200 . The Committee , after some formal business , adjourned .

ROYAL MASONIC BOYS' SCHOOL CRICKET CLUB .

ON Wednesday , May 14 th , a match was played on the College House Ground , amid wretched weather , play being stopped several times during the afternoon . The match resulted in a walk over for the Masonic boys , by 137 runs to 29 . On Saturday , May 17 th , a game was played on tho School Ground with the boys of the Grocers' Company ' s School , victory again resting with tho M . C . C . The return

match with the latter team was played on the Alexandra Palace Ground , on Friday , 20 th inst ., when tbe Grocers were defeated a second time . Tho return match between the College House team was played on the C . H . C . C . Ground on tho 23 rd inst ., when the Masonic team succeeded in beating their oppouenfcs in au innings , with somo runs to spare .
