No . 28 relates to Grand Chaplains , ancl Nos . 29 and 30 correspond with the laws defining the duties and responsibilities of Grand Treasurer , ancl the custody of Grand Lodge moneys and audit of Grand Lodge accounts . Nos . 31-33 , respecting tho functions of Grand Registrar ,
remain as at present . The samo applies to Nos . 33 , 34 , ancl 35 , which embody full particulars as to those of the Grand Secretary , there being , however , one addition—in No . 34 , that the Grand Secretary is " to receive the contributions payable by lodges or brethren to the fund of benevolence
or the fund of general purposes , and pay or cause the same to be paid to the account of the grand lodge at the Bank of England . CELEBEATION OF THE SESQUI-CENTENNIAL . THIS old Lodge celebrated its Sesqui-Centennial or 150 th anniversary on Monday , 23 rd October . The Lodge was warranted 23 rd October 1732 , by Lord Visconnt Montague Grand Master of the " Moderns" Grand Lodge , and its history has recently been pnblished by Bros . G . P . Brockbank and James Newton , as noticed in our columns a few weeks ago .
The proceedings at the Sesqui-centennial were held in the Masonic room at the Swan Hotel , the Lodge being opened at half-past four o ' clock by the W . M . Bro . E . M . expressing his thanks to the members oftho Lodge for their courteous and kindl y welcome , and his earnest hope that the Lodge Anchor and Hope would long continue at the head of the roll of Lodges in his Province and be as prosperous in the future as it had been in the past .

Deacon read an interesting paper "On Provincial Lodges to Xo . 105 now Mo . 1 . 7 ISolton . " which had bren compiled at considerable pains by liro . W . Hughan Past G . S . D . of England , Past Provincial Grand Secretary of
Cornwall , & c . The purpose of the paper was to prove tho assertions made by tho Lodgo historians , " that tho Lodge is the Premier Provincial Lodgo in England originally warranted as a Provincial Lodge and continually on tho roll to tho present time . " hi order to do so , 15 ro . Hughan makes another assertion , which ho Cully proves in his paper , viz . "that all the Lodges originally chartered as Provincial Lodges
prior to tho Anchor and Hope Lodgo havo either boon erased or for a time removed from tho roll . " A list of such Lodges , alphabetically arranged iu Provinces is then given , showing twentyseven Provincial Lodges and four foreign Lodges , all chartered prior to the Anchor and Hopo , aud which havo all been erased from the roll , havinjr , in fact , discontinued , save No . 97 ( now No . 39 ) Exeter ,
warranted in July 1732 , which was removed from the roll for about twenty years , and in 1770 was placed as the junior of tho 1732 Lodges as No . 48 ; the " Anchor ancl Hope" then being No . 46 . Tho reading of Bro . Hughan's Paper waa listened to with great interest , and at tho conclusion a vote of thanks was cordially given to him for tho same .
Bro . Rooke Pennington , B . A ., LL . B ., Immediate Past Master of the Lodge , read an epitome of tho Lodgo History during the past 150 years , narrating many interesting facts which ho had culled from tho History . A cordial voto of thanks was given to Bro . Pennington for his Paper . On the proposition of Bro . William Slater Past Provincial Grand
Senior Deacon , seconded by Bro . James Walker Past Master , a voto of thanks was passed to his Worship tbo Mayor , for kindly allowing the use of his banqnotting-room at tho Town Hall for tho purpose of tho banquet on this occasion . Bro . G . P . Brockbank P . Provincial Grand Senior Deacon proposed a vote of thanks to tho R . W . Provincial Grand Master and the Grand
Officers for their attendance on the occasion . The motion was seconded by Bro . Newton P . Provincial Grand Senior Deacon , and carried unanimously . Bro . H . D . Sandeman Past District Grand Master of Bengal , in acknowledging tho vote of thanks , expressed tho pleasure it had afforded him ancl the other Grand Officers iu being present on such a unique occasion . His remarks were supplemented by the Grand
Secretary , Col . Shadwell H . Clerke , who also expressed his own personal pleasure at being present , and intimated that so far as he knew , this was the first Sosqui-Centennial celebration of any Lodgo under the English Constitution . The W . Masters of tbe sister Lodges iu Bolton , in turn , presented to the Lodge resolutions , which had been adopted by their respective Lodges , congratulating the Anchor and Hope on this auspicious
occasion . On the motion of tho Worshipful the Mayor , Bro . Thos . Glaister , seconded by Bro . W . H . Horrocks , a vote of thanks was passed to tho sister Lodges for their fraternal expressions of congratulation . The Lodge was then closed to tho first degree . Hearty good wishes wero presented by the visiting brethren , and after" tho Grand
Officers and Prov . Grand Officers had retired , the Lodgo was forth , with closed . The brethren then proceeded to the Town Hall , whore a recherche banquet was provided in tho Mayor ' s banqueting-room , by tho permission of his Worship , who presided during the subsequent proceedings . The following is a list of the toasts given during
the evening : — 1 . The Queen , proposed by the Mayor . 2 . The Prince of Wales and the rest of tho Royal Family , proposed by the Mayor . 3 . Our Rulers in the Craft , proposed by the W . M ., and responded to by the R . W . Prov . Grand Master .

The " Freemasons' Calendar and Pocket Book , " for 1883 , will be published early in November , Scribes of Chapters and other Companions are requested to notify to the Grand Scribe E . the number they will require .
