RECENT CONCERTS .

Jnpiter Pluvina haa been too terribly in earnest during the past fortnight , even for those most enthusiastic in the cause of music . Moreover , the regular duties of business must always take precedence of what we must define as " pleasurable dnties . " Saturday last , for instance , was a day on which the element of water—in the shape of rain—especially diatinguiahed itself , but we manfully braved the

whole force of thia elemant and turned np incontinently at Southplace Institute , South-place , Moorgate-street . Bro . Seymour Smith , who haa so often enlivened Masonic audiences by his varied entertainments , had arranged to hold hia annual concert , and where—on hia account we rejoice—a strong Masonic representative audience had assembled for the purpose of paving this tribute of respect to

the worthy beneficiary . A most admirable programme had been prepared , in which many well-known artistes took part , and the result must be described as a success in all respects worthy of Bro . Seymour Smith's claims to recognition by the Craft . Thursday was fixed for the seventeenth annual concert of Bro . G . S . Graham , with whom likewise the Craft is familiar as a contributor

on many occasions to the more convivial pleasures of Lodge and occasional gatherings . He , too , had an admirable programme , and a strong artistic force to support him , and , aa in the case just noted , a triumph worthy of the occasion and of the beneficiary was achieved . Weather notwithstanding , Bro . Graham had reason to be satisfied with the loyalty of his friends and patrons .

Recent Concerts.

Bro . Colonel Creaton presided at the mooting' on Thursday last of the General Committee of the Roynl Masonic Institution for Girls , among thoso present being Bros . John PI . Rucker , Frank Richardson , A . E . Gladwell , Robert

Grey , Joshua Nunn , F . Adlard , & c . Tho usual minntes having been read and confirmed , or read for information , a petition was submitted , and tho candidate ' s name placed on the list for the April Election . Notice of motion was given by Bro . P . Richardson for the increase of the salaries of

governesses and teachers , as recommended by the House Committee , after which a series of motions by tho samo brother , as to the salary of Miss Gai * dencr , a teacher , grants to the Misses Goodridge and Hinson , pnpils , to enable them to pursue further their musical studies , and to enable the

Chairman of tho General Committee to sign cheques in respect of the swimming bath during its erection , were passed unanimously . A proposal by tho Chairman to

invest sums amounting to 361 , 3-50 in augmentation of the Snstentation Fund was also carried , and tho Committee then rose , after tho usual complimentary vote to Colonel Creaton for presiding .
