Roily , who had previonsly been interrogated and ontrnsted , was passed to tho dogree of FeHow Craft . The Lodge was resumed to the first degree . Bro . Shackloton worked tho first and second sections of tho lecture , assisted by the brethron . Bro . Slaiter was unanimously elected W . M . for the next mooting .

BI . of that Lodge , statiug that sovere illness prevented his

attendance . Other letters were read from brethren , including Bros . S . B . Ellis P . BI ., Sheffield , Bro . Varey ( Lord Mayor of York ) , and others , regretting inability to attend . Soon after tho opening of the Lodge , the W . D . P . G . Blastor for North and East Yorkshiro ( Bro . J . P . Bell ) was announced , and on his admission to tho Lodge , he was saluted by the brethren with tho honours due to his rank . Tho

business of tho meeting was the initiation of tho Rev . R . P . T . iennent , which was worked by tho W . BI ., ably assisted by his Officers . Tho Communication from Grand Lodge respecting the decision arrived at about the French Orient was read , and it was resolved that the substance of tho samo should be printed in the next Lodge circular . The D . P . G . M . then gave a most interesting address

on the subject of tho explorations in Palestine under the snperintendence of Bro . Lieut . Warren , and their bearing on tho History of Masonry , and illustrated his remarks by a collection of photographs . On tho motion of tho W . BI ., seconded by the I . P . M ., a vote of thanks to tho P . G . BL , was carried by acclamation . After the closo of tho Lodgo , tho brethren entertained their

Visitors at an excellent supper , provided in Bro . Churchill s wellknown and reliable style . After which a short toast list was gono through . In proposing tho Earl of Zetland and tho Prov . Grand Lodge , the W . M . expressed the pleasnro it gave the Lodgo to soo amongst them their excellent aud worthy Bro . Dr . Boll , to whose interesting and lucid remaiks they had listened with such pleasure

that evening , mid he could only express a wish that they could see him oftener in York . In reply , the D . P . G . BI . said it had given him great pleasure to bo present that evening , and to sec the excellent manner in which tho Lodge was conducted and worked . Ho knew of no Lodgo in his Province which was better managed , and which showed moro plainly the discretion and high aims of its rulers . In

proposing the health of the W . BI ., the D . P . G . M . spoke in the highest terms of Bro . T . B . Whytehead , who ho was sure wonld bo an honour to tho Lodgo and to Blasonry at large . Ho was glad to seo that ho was making such efforts to extend an intelligent study of Blasonry , aud from what he had seen that evening he felt certain that great good was resulting from thoso efforts . Tho Dep . Prov . G . BI . also

expressed a hope that tho timo was not far distant when arrangements might bo mado for the Lodgo to meet at the Blasonic Hall , York , though as far as accommodation and convenience were concoined , nothing could be moro comfortable than the rooms iu which they wero thou assembled ; at the same time , it was universally admitted that it was preferable for Lodges to meet on premises

specially set apart for the purpose . Replying to the toast of tho Visitors , Bro . S . Blaltby P . M . 236 endorsed tho remarks of tho D . P . G . BI . regardiug the place of meeting , and hoped that it might be possiblo to come to some arrangement by which the two Lodges in York might occupy the same premises . Tho ovening was enlivened by songs and recitations , given by Bros . J . S . Cumberland , T . Humphries , W . H . Wyatt , and others , Bro . C . G . Padel acting as

accompauyist on tho piano . During the evening , a set of very curious old Blasonic plates , published in 1812 , and portraying various ceremonies in Lodges , and which had lately been discovered in an old house iu York , and rescued from destruction , were exhibited , and ex . cited much admiration and curiosity . Tho meeting was of a most pleasant and social character , aud will long be remembered as such by tho brethren .

West Middlesex Lodge of Instruction , No . 1612 — The weekly meeting was held at tho Feathers Hotel , Ealing , on Thursday evening , the 21 st inst . Bros . A . Jones W . M ., Porter S . W ., Seward J . W ., A . J . Bnrr Sec , Johnson S . D ., Pooley J . D ., Owen I . G ., Wright Steward ; also Bros . Clark , Stephens , Tnckt > r , Tink , Brown , Edmeston , and others . Lodge haviug been regularly opened and the minntes confirmed , it was advanced to the second degree , when

the W . BI . placed the gavel in the hands of Bro . Tucker , who rehearsed the ceremony of passing , Bro . Edmeston candidate . Bro . Tucker then delivored , in an able manner , the lecture on the Tracing Board , and opened in tho 3 rd degree . Bro . Clark wa 3 then raised to the sublime degreo .
