The last assembly of the season 1877-78 was held on Monday last , at the Cannon-street Hotel , and was what the members are pleased to term
a Ladies' Night , " and we need scarcely add that a very inviting programme was put forth . The first part of tho ontertainment was entirely devoted to tho works of tho late Sir Henry Bishop , and comprised tho Quartette and Chorus , " Hart and Hind ; " Sestett , ' •' Give me a Cup ; " Eecitative and Air , " The Pilgrim of Love ;" Round , " When tho Wind Blows ; " Serenado , " Sleep , gentle Lady ;"
Song , « Oh , Firm as Oak ; " Trio and Chorus , " Pnsh tho Red Wine About ; " and Chorus , " The Tiger Couches . " Each of these pieces was admirably rendered , and it would almost appear invidious for us to select any one for special praise . Mr . Albert James sang the "Pilgrimof Lore" so well on the evening that was speciall y devoted to tho works of Sir H . Bishop , that we were not at all surprised to
find it here for repetition , and we can justly reiterate tho praiso we gave him on that occasion . Mr . Albert Hubbard was effective in "Oh , Fiim a 3 Oak , " while the Chorus , "Tho Tiger Couches" successfully concluded the First Part . The Second Part opened with the Madrigal , "All ye who Music Love ; " this was followed by " The Horn of Chase , " which scored a
success to Mr . Edwin Moss ; tho Part Song , " The Imago of tho Rose , " with humming accompaniment and solo for Tenor—Mr . Albert James •—was , to our mind , tho gem of the evening . Mr . George Musgrave was forcible in " Sigh no more , Ladies , " and then camo the Glee , " Oh ! the Summer Night . " Mr . Fountain Meen next played a Pianoforte Solo , which was re-demauded , as also was the Song , " Thinking
of Homo , by Mr . Edward Collins . Then came a Part Song , " The Dance , " which seemed to take the fancy of tho fairer portion of the audience . Mr . Arthur Thompson was very happy in the Serenade , " I arise from Dreams of Thee ; " aud tho Glees , " Lo , on yon long Resounding Shore , " and " King Canute , " concluded the
entertainment ; in the latter Mr . Hubbard sang the solo . One special feature we must not forget to mention ; that is , the strict attention paid by tho largo audience—nearly 800 being present . Every word was distinctly heard all over the Hall , and the whole arrangements reflected credit on the Committee . The Club will re-assemble on Monday , 14 th October .
