Secretary 211 . The Lodge was formally opened , ancl the Secretary read the minutes of the last meeting , which received confirmation . There waa one candidate for third degree , and ho , after complying with demands of custom , was raised to tho sublime degree by the I . P . M ., Bro . Filer , who gave a most impressive rendering of tho ceremony . The W . M . having resumed the chair , the election of a
W . M . for the ensuing twelvemonths took place ; the result seemed a foregone conclusion , as on reading over tho ballot papers , the suffrages of the brethren were declared unanimous in j ' avour of the S . W ., Bro . John Aird . After Brother Aird had acknowledged tho honour conferred npon him , the election of Treasurer was proceeded with , ancl the result was unanimous iu favour of tho re-election of
Bro . Glaisher . Bro . Speight , on a show of hands , was re-appointed Tyler . Bro . William Sugg then brought ; forward the following resolution : — " That the members of this Lodgo having heard with deep regret that the widow of their lato Bro . John Johnson ( a subscribing member of this Lodge ) is , throngh tho death of her husband , left in straitened circnmatances , do pledge themselves to use their
votes and interest to secure the admission of her two youngest children—a boy of nine ancl a girl of seven—into the Masonic Schools , nnd that the whole of tbe votes given bo used for the election of the boy first , and for the girl after tho boy ' s election is secured . " Bro . Sugg announced that an elder daughter of the lato Bro . Johnson had been admitted , by purchase , into tho London
Orphan Asylnm . The motion was ably seconded by Bro . Magnus Ohren , and on being put by tho W . M ., received the unanimous assent of the Lodgo . Bro . Sugg then brought forward the second part of his proposal : — " That the sum of ten guineas bo voted from tho funds of the Lodge to each of the Schools , the amount to bo placed on tho list of tho two Stewards from this Lodgo serving the Charities fcr 1880 . "
This was seconded b y tho worthy Treasurer , Bro . Glaisher , and carried . Ifc was arranged thafc tho W . M ., Bro . ICirkham , shonld servo as Steward for the Girls' School , and Bro . J . AV . Sugg for tbe Boys ' , whilo Bro . AVilliam Sugg , who , prior to the W . M . expressing his desire to act for tho Girls , had stated he should liko to servo , kindly pledged himself to officiate on behalf of the Old
People . Several of the members wero desirous thafc a snm of £ 10 10 s shonld bo voted from the funds to start Bro . AV . Sugg's lisfc , bufc tho Treasurer , with commendable caution , recommended that this responsibility should not at present be entered upon , and his views were endorsed by a majority of those present . The consideration of some home matters next occupied tho attention of the
brethren , and the question of better Locige room accommodation was brought on ; the result being that tho Secretary was empowered to take snch steps as he might think desirable . Tho Treasurer reported tho Lodge freo from liability , and that he had a balance of £ 85 17 s in hand . Other business having been transacted , Lodgo was closed . A capital banquet , under the personal supervision of Bro . Alfred
Burt , waa provided , and at its conclusion tho AV . M . gave tho customary toasts . Bro . Glaisher replied for the Grand Officers . He remarked thafc the toasfc had been warmly given , and ho as warmly would respond . Lord Carnarvon waa a capable Mason , and took a lively interest in all matters pertaining to tho Order . He referred to Lord Skelmersdale ' s recent illness , and expressed a hope
thafc the fatigue consequent on the heavy labour he had to undertake wonld not unduly task him during the term we must necessarily allow ere we can hope to see him again in full strength . Bro . Filer now proposed the health of tbe W . M . This was perhaps tho last time ho shonld have the opportunity . Tho members would bo loth to part with their AV . M . had they not a rising sun to look forward to .
Bro . Filer congratulated Bro . Kirkham on tho success thafc had attended his Mastership , and called on all present to do the toasfc full honour . After an amusing song from Bro . Filer , the W . M . replied . Ho knew not how to liken himself to the waning sun or the waning moon , but of this he felfc he conld assure them , —ho had endevourod to carry ont the promise he made when he was elected . He had not
been nearly so perfect as he could have wished to be , but this must bo attributed in a great degree to the many engagements ho had to fulfil . Before sittting down he had a pleasing duty to perform ; he wonld ask them to dedicate the contents of their glasses to the toast of their AV . M . elect . Bro . Aird had always proved himself a good Mason , and he ( the AV . M . ) was sure ho would mako a good Master .
This toasfc was gracefully replied to by Bro . Aird ; and then came the toast of the Visitors , for which responses were -made by Bros . Edmands , Korting , Nursey and others , Bro . Nursey made some happy allusions to an aerial trip he had taken some years back with Bro . Glaisher . The remaining toasts comprised tho P . M ., Treasurer , and
Secretary , to which Broa . Filer and Glaisher replied . The Officers were duly complimented , and then the Tyler gave his toast . Some capital songs were given during the evening , by Broa . Ohren , Nursey , Sugg , Korting , & c . Bro . E . II . Sugg gave a selection on the pianoforte , and Bro . Morgan recited the " Charge of the Light Brigade . "

C , and delivered the admirable address to the brethren in explanation of the " threo lesser lights " which he , in conjunction with Bro . Poore , has recently
introduced with great effect into tho installation coromony . Tho result was most satisfactory to members and Visitors . After presentation of the warrant , & c ., Bro . Shoadd AV . Blaekmore into tho Order . Great sympathy was felfc for tbe W . M ., who has been for many months suffering
from the effects of a very serious accident , causing him to be entirely dependent on crutches ; but whose pluck and determination on this occasion elicited the admiration of all present . Ho neglected no effort necessary to perform his duties throughout tho entire evening , and tho heartiest wishes of tho brethren for hia speedy restoration wero freely expressed . Before the Lodge was
closed , a proposition was made to mark tho sense of the Lodgo towards Bro . Pooro by the presentation of a handsome testimonial . At the excellent banqnefc which followed , Bro . McKay , the I . P . M ., received at the hands of the W . M . a P . M . ' s jewel , and to the toasfc in his honour made effective response . Tho Visitors found able representatives in tho persons of Bros . FoiiLham and Yaxley , whoso
replica were admirably delivered . The senior P . M ., Bro . Stevens , also responded on behalf of himself and other P . M . ' s , and especially directed the attention of some of the brethren to tho necessity for aiding the AV . M ., nnder his present unfortunate state of health , by a stricter adherence to order and regularity than even they had hitherto evinced . The whole proceedings were throughout agreeable , and the brethren separated at a reasonable hour .
