GIRL ' SCHOOL . —A Quarterly General Court will be held at the School-house on Thursday the Sth of October , at twelve o ' clock precisely , on general business , and to elect four children into the school . Sept . 21 . —A special General Court was held at the office , 7 , Bloomsbury-place , for the purpose of declaring a vacancy in the office of Treasurer , in consequence ofthe departure of Sir David Pollock for Indiafor the nomination of candidates to fill such vacancy—and to fix a day for the election .
ASYLUM FOR AGED MASONS , Sept . tG . —A quarterly meeting of the General Committee was held at Radley ' s Hotel , New Bridge-street . Dr . t rucefix in the chair . The general business was transacted—the report was generally satisfactory . BENEVOLENT ANNUITY FUND . —We have received no report .

PRINCE Henry of Prussia , lately deceased at Rome , uncle of the King of Prussia , was the last Grand Master of the Order of St . John , a dignity conferred upon him in 1812 , on the death of his grand uncle , Prince Edward of Prussia , brother of Frederick II . A few years later the order was suppressed . Fifteen members of the ancient ( . rcler of St . John are still living ; the King of the Belgians is one of them . The five last Grand Masters were all princes of the house of Brandenburgh .
The vast domains of the order have been secularized . PERSEVERANCE . —I recollect in Queen ' s county to have seen a Mr . Clarke , who had been a working carpenter , ancl when making a bench for the session justices at the Court-house , was laughed at for taking peculiar pains in planing ancl smoothing the seat of it . He smilingly observed , that he did so to make it easy for himself , as he was resolved he would never die till he had a right to sit thereupon , and he kept his
word . He was an industrious man , honest , respectable , and kindhearted . He succeeded in all his efforts to accumulate an independence ; he did accumulate it , and uprightly . His character kept pace with the increase of his property , and he lived to sit as a magistrate on that very jench that he sawed and planed . AN ENTHUSIAST . —AVe read in a Belgian journal , — " The sale of the jjallery of paintings of M . Van N , of Biussels , who died in the courte of the last month , is advertised . This celebrated amateur not only . leveled his life , but sacrificed the whole of his fortune , which originally
