A CONVOCATION of the higher degrees of Freemasonry uncier the Supreme CouncU of the 33 ^ Degree , was held at Freemasons ' HaU , Great Queen Street , London , the 1
on Tuesday 8 th day of March , A . D . 1851 . This being the first general meeting of the higher degrees uncier the presidency of the present Sovereign Grand Commander , Dr . Leeson •more than usual interest was felt
in the proceedings . The Golden Book of the Order was produced , and its beauty and chasteness of execution was the theme of generaadmiration . Those ofthe Brethren who had not previousl y recorded their names did so on the present occasion . In the course of the day a Sovereign Tribunal of the 31 st Degree was opened , and also a Consistory of Sublime Princes of the Royal Secret , 32 nd Degree •when some iUustrious and distinguished Brethren had the dignified rank conferred on them . AVhen all had been concluded except the grand point on the third apartment , the 111 . Sov . Grand Inspector General Udall and said he
, Henry , rose had a communication of great interest to make to the Brethren present , viz ,, that the Most Puissant Soverei gn Commander of the Order , Dr . Leeson , was now ready to attend the assembly ; ancl for their guidance he would read one of the ordinances of the Order , of A . D . 1786 . He read as foUows : — " Whenever a Sov . Grand Inspector General is announced at the door of Council above the
a 16 th Degree ( Prince of Jerusalem ) he shall be received under the arch of steel . The presiding officer shall resign his seat to the visiting Inspector , with whom it j s optional whether he receives it . " The 111 . Brother therefore requested that a deputation should go to the M . P . Sov . Commander who immediately proceeded to the adjoining room , and returned ' with the Sov . Commander to the Chapter .
