THE construction of the Temple , and consequently of its prototype the Tabernacle , must of necessity interest every member of our Fraternity . Having lately been rcfering lo the Scriptures on this subject , we have endeavoured to ascertain the cause of the peculiar dimensions of these sacred edificesand in so doing some geometrical results
, have occurred , which to our mind appear particularly to affect the usages and traditions of the Craft ; and as wc think them of sufficient interest to require elucidation , cither by way of confirmation or rebuttal by other and more experienced persons than ourselves , we submit them to our readers , that they may be enabled clearly to understand the
assumptions given in the following details . A span is 10 , 944 inches English ; a common cubit is 3 foot 9-888 inches . There are three sorts of cubits , viz ., king's cubit , 3 feet English ; holy cubit , 1 foot G inches ; common cubit , 1 foot 9 inches . We shall commence with the dimensions of the exterior
part of the Tabernacle , and proceed with the description to the interior , and endeavour to illustrate our ideas as we proceed ; consequently , our first dimension is thc Court which surrounded thc Tabernacle , for which see Ex . xxvii . 18 , and xxxviii . 9 to 20 , where if is described—in le-ru- ; ...
