ceremony , the whole of which had been xvorked in the most perfect manner , was brought to a termination . The new W . M ., Bro . Thos . Baudains , who is very much esteemed by the brethren of the province invited those present to the annual banquet . About 65 brethren accepted the invitation and adjourned to the banqueting hall , which presented a most brilliant appearance , the banquet xvorthy of the occasion and xvas handsomely served , under the
genial supervision of our respected Bro . G . Rogers . During the evening the usual toasts were proposed and responded to and several songs were given . Altogether the evening was one not to be soon forgotten by the brethen , who expressed themselves highly delighted xvith the xvhole of the arrangements . Bro . W . H . Chapman , the respected Treasurer of the lodge , and one of the Stexvards superintended the proceedings in connection xvith the festival xvhich proved a decided success .

VVben " Hearty good xvishes " had been given by the visitors , the lodge xvas closed in peace and harmony . The brethren afterxvards sat doxvn to one of those recherche banquets for which this hotel is famous , and , on its
. conclusion , the usual loyal and Masonic toast were duly honoured . In response to the toast of " The Provincial Grand Officers , " Bros . Tom Nash , P . P . G . R ., and John Chadwick , P . G . Sec , acknoxvledged the compliment , the latter brother expressing the pleasure he felt at all times in visiting the Egerton Lodge , which he said xvas one of the
most select lodges in the province . Bro . Lhadwick xvent on to say that it xvas very gratifying to see the brethren work the ceremony of installation so harmoniously as they had done that day , and not have to go elsexvhere for assistance . He xvas present in the lodge iS years ago when Bro . Hart was installed W . M ., and since that time the lodge had appeared to him to have enjoyed an
uninterrupted run of success . ... Bro . J . B . Hamond , I . P . M ., proposed in eulogistic terms "The Health of the W . M . " remarking that Bro . Pemberton had worked his way up step b y step to his present position , and all who knew him could testify how xvorthily he deserved it . The toast was heartily responded to by the brethren . The W . toast said he xvas sure by this time the brethren were aware that he was not a great talker , at the same time he trusted he should prove himself a good xvorker . He had been very pleased to see so many present that day at his installation , and trusted the visitors would come again . The VVorshipful Master continuing said that he had been brought forxvard much quicker than he expected , as it xvas
but seven years last October since he was initiated . He only hoped he should be able to shoxv to the brethren of tbe Egerton Lodge that he xvas xvorthy of their confidence . He should certainly try to do his best , and if he failed it xvould not be for the want of trying . The W . M . next proposed "The Health of the I . P . M ., " and spoke most highly of the manner in xvhich he had presided over the lodge during the last txvelve months , and
also of the ability he had that day displayed as Installing Master . As a slight acknoxvledgment of such services the W . M . said he had much pleasure in presenting Bro . Hamond xvith a Past M aster ' s . S jewel , and hoped he would live many years to xvear it amongst them . Whilst the W . M . pinned the jewel on Bro . Hamond ' s breast the brethren , by whom he is much liked , exhibited their approval bv loud applause . The jexvel xvas

Saker , lessee of the Royal Alexandra Theatre , Liverpool , conveying the sincere and heartfelt sympathy of the brethren in connection xvith the great loss she sustained by the death of her husband , connected with the Dramaticsince its

Saker . —Dear Madam . —At a very numerously attended and thoroughl y representative meeting of the members of the Dramatic Lodge , held on Tuesday last , it xvas proposed , on the motion of Bro . Frank Emery , seconded by Bro . J . B . Mackenzie , and supported by Bro . J . Atkinson , and unanimously resolved , that the deepest
sympathy of the brethren should be conveyed to you in the sad bereavement you have sustained by the death of your husband . . "Bro . Saker was held in high esteem not onl y in the Dramatic Lodge , but throughout the Masonic Provinceof West Lancashire , and all who xvere thus associated with him feel his death a personal loss , for vvhich wc sincerely mourn . Upon youhowever , the blow has fallen xvith special severity ,
, and xve trust our sincere condolence with you in your trial will in some measure lighten the xveight of your grief . Our earnest hope is that true consolation will be given to you by the Great Architect of thc Universe , and that you and the five fatherless children cast upon your care will be sustained and guided in the hour of your greatest tribulation . " The members of the lodge also desire mc to express their earnest hope that great success may attend your
active management of a theatre of which Liverpool teels justly proud , and that , under your direction , it may continue to enjoy that measure of prosperity xvhich folloxved your lamented husband ' s long and honourable connection xvith it as lessee . , but his health xvas so uncertain , and he suffered so much and so uncomplainingly , that few knew except myself how bravely , and with xvhat angelic patience he endured his great trial . was the greatest joy this earth could afford him to be with us ; he seemed to live for us alone . The Third Degree was given with impressiveness and efficiency in the course of the afternoon , and at the conclusion of business the brethren adjourned to banquet , after which several capital songs and recitations were given by Bros . Edgar Wilson , W . G . Stone , J . Busfield , and R . W . South ; the accompaniments being played by Bros .
Burgess and Monk . The toasts xvere given and responded to most cordially , and before separating the W . M . expressed a strong hope that the brethren would enjoy the txvo months' holiday season xvith zest , returning to their Masonic duties in August xvith renexved health and strength .
YORK . — Eboracum Lodge ( No . i 6 n ) . —An emergency meeting of this lodge xvas held on Monday , the 21 st ult ., at the Queen's Hotel , tvhen there xvas a very large muster , upwards of 40 brethren being present . The object of the meeting was the initiation into Masonry of the Lord Mayor of York ( Alderman Thomas Varry ) , xvho had been proposed in emergency by letter in viexv of the
visit of the Grand Master to York in July , when the foundation stone of the nexv Institute will be laid by him with Masonic honours . The W . M ., Bro . M . After the close of the lodge the brethren and their guests met at supper , after which the usual toast list was dulv
honoured . In responding to the toast of his health the Lord Mayor said he was pleased to have become a member of an Order so ancient and of such high standing , and he should be very glad to place the Guildhall and the Mansion House at the service of the Order on the occasion of thc visit of the Grand Master . A most hatmonious evening was spent , enlivened by songs and glees .

Grand Master in rewarding merit to the various brethren under his jurisdiction , which he ( Bro . Greenwood ) stated to be no easy matter for decision among so many good
Masons in the province . It was stated during the meeting that a warrant had been granted for a chapter in connection with the Ewell Lodge , to be shortly consecrated . . conclusion , the usual loyal and Masonic toast were duly honoured . In response to the toast of " The Provincial Grand Officers , " Bros . Tom Nash , P . P . G . R ., and John Chadwick , P . G . Sec , acknoxvledged the compliment , the latter brother expressing the pleasure he felt at all times in visiting the Egerton Lodge , which he said xvas one of the
most select lodges in the province . Bro . Lhadwick xvent on to say that it xvas very gratifying to see the brethren work the ceremony of installation so harmoniously as they had done that day , and not have to go elsexvhere for assistance . toast said he xvas sure by this time the brethren were aware that he was not a great talker , at the same time he trusted he should prove himself a good xvorker . He had been very pleased to see so many present that day at his installation , and trusted the visitors would come again . The VVorshipful Master continuing said that he had been brought forxvard much quicker than he expected , as it xvas
but seven years last October since he was initiated . He only hoped he should be able to shoxv to the brethren of tbe Egerton Lodge that he xvas xvorthy of their confidence . He should certainly try to do his best , and if he failed it xvould not be for the want of trying . The W . M . next proposed "The Health of the I . P . M ., " and spoke most highly of the manner in xvhich he had presided over the lodge during the last txvelve months , and
also of the ability he had that day displayed as Installing Master . As a slight acknoxvledgment of such services the W . M . said he had much pleasure in presenting Bro . The Third Degree was given with impressiveness and efficiency in the course of the afternoon , and at the conclusion of business the brethren adjourned to banquet , after which several capital songs and recitations were given by Bros . Edgar Wilson , W . G . Stone , J . Busfield , and R . W . South ; the accompaniments being played by Bros .
Burgess and Monk . The toasts xvere given and responded to most cordially , and before separating the W . M . expressed a strong hope that the brethren would enjoy the txvo months' holiday season xvith zest , returning to their Masonic duties in August xvith renexved health and strength .
YORK . — Eboracum Lodge ( No . i 6 n ) . —An emergency meeting of this lodge xvas held on Monday , the 21 st ult ., at the Queen's Hotel , tvhen there xvas a very large muster , upwards of 40 brethren being present . The object of the meeting was the initiation into Masonry of the Lord Mayor of York ( Alderman Thomas Varry ) , xvho had been proposed in emergency by letter in viexv of the
visit of the Grand Master to York in July , when the foundation stone of the nexv Institute will be laid by him with Masonic honours . The W . M ., Bro . M . In responding to the toast of his health the Lord Mayor said he was pleased to have become a member of an Order so ancient and of such high standing , and he should be very glad to place the Guildhall and the Mansion House at the service of the Order on the occasion of thc visit of the Grand Master .
