Reports Of Masonic Meetings.
to a homely country banquet , after which the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . Bro . Dehane , the I . P . M ., congratulated the W . M . on the success he had had during his two years of oflice , and considered he had performed his duties in a manner which had added lustre to his name , the lodge , and the province , and set an example which would be , he hoped , copied by the vounger brethren coming on , and concluded by proposing
his health . Bro . Rattray replied in feeling terms , and thanked those officers who had so materially assisted him during his year of office , and made it such a pleasure to preside over them ; but one thing he might say , he was glad he preceded the incoming W . M ., whose able work was so well known in Essex . The toast and reply were received with Rosslyn " fire "
and Essex enthusiasm . The Worshipful Master , in proposing " The Health of the I . P . M ., " said as it was the last time he should have the pleasure of doing so , he wished to thank him for his assistance , support , and instruction , and remarked upon the great zeal always shown by Bro . Dehane , and the Masonic knowledge he possessed , and readiness to impart the same . He would say he was almost too zealous if he
did not know that everything lie did was in all respects Masonic , and for the good of Masonry in general , and this lodge particularly . Bro . Dehane said that the W . M . ' s very complimentary remarks led him to be perfectly certain that when he became I . P . M . his zeal would quite eclipse that which he had shown , and trusted he would not overstep it . He most sincerely thanked the brethren for tlieir kindness to him ,
and alluded to that which the P . G . M ., Lord Brooke , at Saffron Wadlen , had asked the Masons under his rule , viz ., to support the Prov . Charity Committee by sending in their votes early , and concluded his remarks by saying that his voice had been heard pretty much during the two years preceding and the two years of the W . M ., so he thought that when he sat next to the l . W . at banquet next
year he would be entitled to well-earned rest and quiteness , and to the benefit of our motto— " Audi , vide , tace . " The Initiate replied to the toast of his health in an impressive manner , and , as the W . M . had told them , it was his natal day . He would be able to remember at each anniversary it was also his natal day in Masonry . He had no idea of what Masonry was ; but the few minutes he had been among them he was delighted with it heartily .
Bro . Shedd replied for " The Visitors , " although circumstances over which he had no control had compelled him to retire from the Rosslyn Lodge , he was pleased that distance had not prevented him coming . He was obliged for the reception he had had , which reminded him of the time when he was a regular attendant . He said that as
he was going up as Steward for the Girls' School not attached to any lodge , and if he was not treading on any brother ' s corns in the Rosslyn Lodge , any contribution they choose to put on his list he should be pleased to acknowledge , and , as time was short , he again thanked them .
The Worshipful Master , in a few well-chosen words , proposed "The Health of the W . M . Elect . " The Worshipful Master Elect hoped he should be supported in a manner similar to his predecessor , and then he should feel that nothing could go wrong in the lodge . He should expect each officer to do his duty , and he knew that he should not expect in vain , and was sure the intelligence of the young brethren coming on had so materially conduced to the pleasure of all who had seen the work done in
the lodge of late years , which he hoped would be continued under his rule , so that when it was ended he might have the satisfaction of having earned the approval of the brethren . The officers were not forgotten by the W . M . ; but time being curtailed in the country , they must accept what they knew he could only say of them if he talked for hours . Bro . Lewin , accompanied by Bro . Noble , gave " The Entered Apprentice Song . " The Tyler ' s toast concluded the evening .
