M ., Sec , then gave the explanation of the second tracing board in his usual masterly manner , and , by

permission of the W . M ., he deviated a little in order to explain the meaning and derivation of certain terms used in explanation of the tracing board as laid down in Kenning ' s " Encyclopxdia of Freemasonry " and other Alasonic works . At the conclusion of the lecture , Bro . Lloyd , P . AL , was accorded a hearty vote of thanks , the same to be inscribed on the minutes of the lodge . A telegram of apology was

received from Bro . James Ormrod , expressing his inability to be present . The Secretary gave notice that the annual Alasonic ball in aid of the Alasonic Charities will be held at the Church Schools , Urmston , on the 2 nd prox ., in connection with the lodge . "Hearty good wishes" were given by the visiting brethren , and was heartily reciprocated by the W . AL , after

which the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned for refreshments . The usual loyal and Alasonic toasts were given and responded to . In response to " The Health of the Visitors , " Bros . Dumville , Barrow , Veal , Travis , and Batty spoke in most eulogistic terms of the manner the lodge was worked , and what

great pleasure and information they had derived therefrom . During the evening Bros . VV . Dumville , Wilcox , W . Bowers , and Slyman added greatly to the enjoyment of the evening with songs and recitations , and Bro . Beevers' performance on 'he "Fairy Bells" was greatly appreciated . The companions of the chapter subsequently entertained their numerous guests at a sumptuous dinner , alter which the customary toasts were duly honoured . The principal speakers besides the Al . E . Z . being Comps . Philbrick , Harvey , Pritchard , Vallentine , Holroyd , Grilfith , and others . A great feature in thc proceedings of the evening was the

musical treat afforded by the exquisite performances of the Ateister singers , the newly-exalted companions , and Comp . I last , composing this charming vocal corps , supplying the whole of the vocal entertainment , comprising some of their most popular glees and solos , Comp . Pritchard being accompanist . A most enjoyable evening was brought to a close in true Albion style by all present joining hands to the singing of "Auld Lang Syne . "

, his readiness to assist them , even at so long a distance from his home , as Burnley . Comp . Reevers , in seconding the proposition , added his testimony to the work done b y Comp . Sillitoe . The proposition was carried with acclamation . The balance-sheet was read by thc Treasurer , from which it appeared that the chapter was in a most healthy financial

condition , and a sum of 10 guineas was voted to the East Lancashire Systematic Educational and Benevolent Institution . 'The chapter was closed , and the companions adjourned to refreshment . An enjoyable evening was spent , during which Comp . dough ' s vocal attainments and Comp . Carter ' s conjuring feats added much to the pleasure of ali present .

Duke of Connaught Lodge ( No . igy ) . — The usual monthly meeting of this lodge was held on Wednesday , the iOth ult . ( by dispensation ) , at Great Eastern Hotel , Liverpool-street , instead of at the obsolete Town Hall , Shoreditch . The lodge was duly opened , and the minutes read and confirmed , when the following officers were present : Bros . W . Christian , P . G . S ., VV . AI . ; T . Clark , P . G . O ., S . VV . ;

VV . T . Turnpenny , J . VV . ; J . Al . Klench , P . P . G . Sec , M . O . j and W . Beasley , P . AL , P . P . M . O ., Hon . Sec . The business of the evening was to advance Bros . Gilbert Stephen Southcombe , 749 , and Henry R . Stephens , 1370 , which was done in a most impressive and earnest manner by Bro . Christian , VV . AI . The routine business being ended , the lodge adjourned

to a most excellent banquet , served by and superintended by the hotel manager , which gave every satisfaction . The usual loyal and other toasts were given and received by the brethren , and responded to in a true Alasonic spirit , and the evening brought to a close by admirable speeches and songs , all of the brethren expressing their gratification at their new home ( though temporary ) , trusting it would be lasting .

O ., Treas ., acting W . M ., in the unavoidable absence of Bro Arthur Clemow , * Harvey , S . VV . ; Holroyd , J . W .: Capt . Walls , P . M ., P . G . S . H ., Sec ; and T . O . Harding , ALA ., P . AI . Amongst the

visitors were Bros . F . W . Driver , ALA ., P . AL , P . G . Stwd ., and the Rev . R . C . Fillingham , ALA . The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , the ballot was taken on behalf of Bro . the Rev . R . C . Fillingham , ALA ., as a joining member , and it proved to be unanimous . A resolution to increase the annual subscription of the lodge was unanimously carried .

Bro . Fillingham was invested as J . O .. and apologies were received from Bros . Chauffourier and A- Clemow . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to an excellent banquet , served under the careful superintendence of Bro . livens , the manager of the hotel . Upon the removal of the cloth the customary toasts received full justice .

AL called the attention of tlie brethren to the fact that the lodge had ceased to be a Provincial lodge , as it met within the London district . permission of the W . M ., he deviated a little in order to explain the meaning and derivation of certain terms used in explanation of the tracing board as laid down in Kenning ' s " Encyclopxdia of Freemasonry " and other Alasonic works . At the conclusion of the lecture , Bro . Lloyd , P . AL , was accorded a hearty vote of thanks , the same to be inscribed on the minutes of the lodge . A telegram of apology was

received from Bro . James Ormrod , expressing his inability to be present . The Secretary gave notice that the annual Alasonic ball in aid of the Alasonic Charities will be held at the Church Schools , Urmston , on the 2 nd prox ., in connection with the lodge . "Hearty good wishes" were given by the visiting brethren , and was heartily reciprocated by the W . AL , after

which the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned for refreshments . The usual loyal and Alasonic toasts were given and responded to . In response to " The Health of the Visitors , " Bros . Z . being Comps . Philbrick , Harvey , Pritchard , Vallentine , Holroyd , Grilfith , and others . A great feature in thc proceedings of the evening was the

musical treat afforded by the exquisite performances of the Ateister singers , the newly-exalted companions , and Comp . I last , composing this charming vocal corps , supplying the whole of the vocal entertainment , comprising some of their most popular glees and solos , Comp . Pritchard being accompanist . A most enjoyable evening was brought to a close in true Albion style by all present joining hands to the singing of "Auld Lang Syne . "

The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , the ballot was taken on behalf of Bro . the Rev . R . C . Fillingham , ALA ., as a joining member , and it proved to be unanimous . A resolution to increase the annual subscription of the lodge was unanimously carried .

The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to an excellent banquet , served under the careful superintendence of Bro . livens , the manager of the hotel . AL called the attention of tlie brethren to the fact that the lodge had ceased to be a Provincial lodge , as it met within the London district .
