PROVINCIAL flHAXI ) LODGE OF AHEiWlWXsi 11 no : HAST .
Freemasonry in the Eastern Division of Aberdeenshire has during the past few years been extremel y active , and all the lodges under the supervision of Provincial Grand Lodge are in a flourishing condition . Perhaps no better indication of the hearty spirit which
pervades the district could be cited than the hearty response with which the appeal on behalf of the Annuity Fund was met , Aberdeenshire East lodges furnishing to the auxilliary bazaar held in Aberdeen a sufficient amount of saleable articles to constitute a bazaar in themselves , independent of the other provinces which
were associated with them . When the county division was revised some years ago two lodges were disassociated from Aberdeenshire East and included in the western province , but the lopping off of these branches has only caused greater zeal for extension , and last year a ncw lodge was formed in
Peterhead , and arrangements are in progress to have lodges opened in Ellon , Old Deer , and New Aberdeen . In the case of the last-named a petition for a new charter is now before Grand Lodge , and St . Drostane Lodge will likclj find a p lace in the books after St . John ' s Day .
On account of the scattered character of the district and the distance between the location of the various lodges , frequent meetings of Provincial Grand Lodge are impossible and it has been the practice hitherto to hold one annual meeting in rotation at the head-quarters of the respective lodges , and special meetings at
convenient centres as required . At the ordinary meetings there are generally about 100 brethren present , more or less according to the accessible situation of the meeting place . At the three annual meetings prior to the one held in Fraserburgh at the end of October last , a new lodge room was consecrated and now every
lodge has a comfortable meeting place . From returns submitted to last annual meeting we lind that " 70 members had joined the brotherhood since last annual meetings , and that 90 regular meetings and 39 special meeting had been held by the respective lodges . " Thu next annual meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge falls to be held at New 1 'itsligo . 'The Duke and Duchess of Connaught having concluded their visit to the Queen at Windsor left the Castle for Bagshot Park , whence they have since returned to Portsmouth ,
