anxious to present him with a set of Grand Lodge clothing . There had been no touting for subscriptions , and many brethren had complained that they had not been asked to subscribe . All sums had been sent in voluntarily , and in this way a large sum had been subscribed for the purpose . Before the presentation' was made he would ask the brethren to drink to the health , long life , happiness , ' and " prosperity of their dear old friend , thc Grand Treasurer . , Bro . W . A . SCURRAH expressed his great pleasure at being the mouthpiece of so many brethren present and so many who were absent . All united in showing their respect and esteem lo one who had honoured the Craft and all the brethren in it . He knew full well that whenever Bro . Stiles could do anything in the way of leaching the ritual , helping a distressed brother , or supporting the noble

Charities , he was always to the front doing his level best to be true to the obligation he took when he was initiated into FYeema onry . They , therefore , felt that Bro . Stiles had gained an honour he deserved , and that they shared in that honour and delight . He would read an address , which would be engrossed and presented to their

guest" To V . W . Bro . Win . Mason Stiles , W . M . 2048 , 2551 , P . M . 1507 , 1732 , 1744 , 1987 , Treas . 2206 , P . Z . 1507 , 204 S , P . P . G . Soj . Middx ., Vice-Patron R . M . We , the Masters , Past Masters , Wardens , and brethren of the above-mentioned lodges , and Principals , P . Zs ., and members of the above-mentioned chapters , and also many members of

other lodges give you fraternal greetings and hearty congratulations on the exalted position you now hold in the Craft and Royal Arch , and as a small token of our esteem and in recognition of the valuable services you have rendered to Freemasonry in general , and especially to our three noble Charities , we herewith present you with the Grand Treasurer ' s clothing , gold breast jewel , collar jewel , and miniature copies of your Past Master ' s , and P . Z . ' s jewel . We trust the G . A . O . T . U . will give you health and strength during a long life of usefulness , and health to enjoy the honours you so richly deserve . "

Bro . W . M . STII . ES , G . Treas ., in reply , said that words failed him to adequately express his thanks for the kind way they had received his name . They had all done their best to support his candidature , and he had no idea he had so many friends , until he wanted their help . He was proud indeed to be returned at the head of the poll as Grand Treasurer , and sincerely hoped that , by his course of living , he might be able to carry out the high duties they had imposed upon him by their good fellowship . He was proud they had assembled in such force to

do honour to the occasion , and felt sure they would accept his grateful thanks and expressions of appreciation at seeing so many friends in Freemasonry . This was the proudest moment of his life , for , although he was beaten last year , when some 1200 brethren supported him , he was now , by their kind suffrages , in the happy position of Granel Treasurer . He could not allow this occasion to pass without saying how much he appreciated the zealous and good services of his friend and Secretary , Bro . Scurrah , who had worked for a long time in his interests . He regarded it as a special privilege that Bro . Scurrah had been selected to make the

presentation , and , whilst thanking him for the kind sentiments hc had expressed , hoped that the good friendship existing between them might continue for a life longtime . He sincerely thanked those brethren who proposed and seconded him , and Bros . H . J . Lardner , G . Stwd . ; W . Martin , P . M . ; Hillier , P . M . ; and Jas . Stephens , P . M ., who had acted as Vice-Presidents of the Committee . He hoped for many years to render some small service in Freemasonry as a Grand Officer , thanked them once again for all their kindness , and assured them that to his dying day he should remember this occasion as the happiest day of his life .

Bros . W . A . SCURRAH , P . P . G . Supt . of Wks ., H . J . LARIJNER , G . Stwd ., and W . MARTIN , P . M ., replied for " The Committee , " after which , Bro . VV . M . STILES , G . Treas ., proposed " The Chairman , " and on behalf of the brethren expressed their thanks for the ability and geniality with which he had discharged the duties . Bro . S . COCHRANE , P . G . Treas ., responded , and

Bro . W . MARTIN , P . M ., then gave " The Vice-Chairman , " and said that Bro . James Stephens had been a hard worker in all parts for the good of the cause , and in influencing votes at Ihe recent election . He did not believe there was a better man in Freemasonry than Bro . Stephens , who was always willing to assist a brother in a lodge or lodgeof instruction , and when he found a good man came

forward , he gave him his suffrages , and induced his friends to do the same . He regretted that Bro . Stephens was present alone , and not supported by his good and true wife , who had so many votes attached to her name in connection with the Institutions . Bro . Stephens was worthy of all honour as a Mason , and those who knew him ret | uired no recommendation , for a better man never lived , and they hoped he woulel live many years to enjoy his society .

Bro . STEPHENS , P . P . G . D ., thanked Bro . Martin for his kindly allusions to his wife , who was deserving of every compliment . Bro . Stiles had been Preceptor of the Metropolitan Lodge of Instruction for nearly 20 years , and had consistently done his duty to the brethren and the Institutions . He was pleased Bro . Stiles had attained the high position and was sure he would never know how to disgrace it . That he had deseved it was beyond question , and that he would honour the position , and in the future continue to pursue a course of conduct that had ever been honourable in the extreme , he was confident .

Bro . Capt . KNIGHTLEY was thanked for providing an excellent musical

programme . Bro . J . M . MCLEOO having briefly replied for " The Masonic Charities , " the proceedings terminated . The following assisted in the musical programme : Brj ? . W . Arter , Wilfrid Davies , John Cross , and W . H . Webb .

After a very recherche repast , served in Bro . Clemow ' s usual good style , and the loyal toasts had been duly honoured , The CHAIRMAN , in most eloquent terms , proposed the toast of "The Old Masonians . " lie said it was an Association whose objects were well worthy of the support of the Craft , that the gradual progress which it was making was a matter of gratification to the Board of Management of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , of which hc was Vice-President , and hc would be ever ready to render it all the help in his power .

Mr . K . S . CHANDLER , Hon , Treasurer of the Association , in responding , said that the past year had been one of steady progress . He was pleased to state they had been able to enroll ; 'o new members ,-most of them boys who had recently left 1 he School , and that they had been able to render pecun ary assistance to a few old boys , and found situations for others . Hc hoped that by adhering to the

Bro . W . MARTIN , P . M ., then gave " The Vice-Chairman , " and said that Bro .
