OUR readers will be pleased to learn that a provincial organisation has been granted to the Isle of Man lodges . It will be remembered that in the summer of 1884 a deputation of Grand Officers under the auspices of Bro . Col . SHADWELL H . CLERKE , Grand Secretary , visited the island for the purpose of consecrating two additional lodges—the Elian Vannin , No . 2040 ,
and the St . Trinian ' s , No . 2050—thus raising the number of lodges holding under the United Grand Lodgeof England to five . It was mentioned at the time of their consecration that the position of Freemasonry would in all probability be further strengthened if the lodges were placed under the rule of some local brother of eminence , who , as Prov . Grand Master , would be
able to give his personal supervision to the affairs of the Craft , and so secure for the lodges an amount of vital energy which even the able but distant government of our Grand Lodge Executive must be unequal to bestowing upon them . The suggestion thus casually thrown out appears to have at length borne fruit , and probably not many months will elapse ere the five
lodges of the Isle of Man , like the live Bedfordshire lodges , will bc under the immediate sway of an able and influential chief . We have no doubt the new arrangement will prove beneficial both generally and locally . The brethren will lose that sense of isolation from the main body of the English Craft which must havc possessed them heretofore . They will find
themselves on precisely the same footing as the rest of the home lodges , and the hope of winning Prov . Grand Lodge honours is sure to have the effect of promoting a healthy spirit of emulation . We trust the day is not far distant when it will be our privilege to chronicle the establishment of the proposed Prov . Grand Lodge of the Isle of Man .
* * * IT will be seen from our report of the proceedings in Supreme Grand Chapter on Wednesday , that our anticipations have been fulfilled , and that the Report of the Committee appointed to revise the Royal Arch Regulations has been accepted in its entirety . We do not know of any other
course that could have been adopted . Grand Chapter had entrusted the responsible task of revising the Regulations for the government of the Royal Arch Degree to a select Committee of experienced Companions , in whose wisdom and ability it had the most implicit confidence , and it would have been a singular illustration of that confidence , if it had taken upon
itself to modify or reject partially or entirely , the recommendations they had found it expedient to offer , Hence tlvey adopted the Report en bloc , though not without discussion , and Grand Chapter like Grand Lodge , will be henceforth under a Revised Code , which cannot fail to exercise a beneficial influence on the position of Royal Arch Masonry and strengthen and extend it in the estimation of all constitutional brethren .
* * * ANOTHER of our last century lodges—the Antiquity , No . 17 S , Wiganhas just celebrated the grant of a centenary warrant , and on Friday next , the 12 th instant , its example will be followed by the popular Domatic Lodge , No . 177 , which meets at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet Street . Both
these had their origin under the regime of the " Ancient" or " Atholl " Grand Lodge , in 17 S 6 , the date of the Domalic ' s Warrant being tho 7 th February of that year , and the Grand Officer who constituted it none other than the famous Bro . LAWRENCE DERMOTT , at the time Deputy Grand Master , who was assisted in his agreeable duty by Bro . THOMAS
HARPER , the Grand Junior Warden of the day , and subsequently , for a term of years which was brought to a close only by the Union of 1813 , Deputy Grand Master . From that day till now the Domatic has passed an uninterrupted , but not unchequered , existence in fulfilling , to the best
of its ability , the Masonic duties imposed upon il by custom and the laws and usages of the Society . In the main it has fared well , any momentary disfavour shown it by Dame Fortune having had no other effect than to strengthen the resolution of the brethren to establish their lodge on an enduring basis in the face of all difficulties . This they have done , and the
Ar00102
celebration of next Friday will be the culmination of these successful efforts . That some of the Grand Ofiicers and many visitors of inferior rank will be present to do honour to the occasion may be taken as a matter of course , and from what we have heard of the preparations we have no doubt the anniversary will be a brilliant success . Let us add that the lodge , in order
to mark their sense of the importance of the event , have resolved on having a short history of the lodge published , and as , with the exception of some brief intervals , the minutes—still happily preserved—are continuous , there is fair reason to hope that the narrative will prove interesting , even if it does not throw much additional light on the laws and customs in vogue among the " Atholl " brethren .
* * * MONDAY , the Sth instant , has been chosen for the consecration of " Grand Masters' " Chapter , to be attached to "Grand Masters' " Lodge , No . 1 , on the roll of Grand Lodge . The ceremony will take place at Willis ' s Rooms , St . James ' s , and the Consecrating Officer will be Comp . Col . SHADWELL
H . CLERKE , Grand Scribe E . Probably most of our readers will wonder how it is that our senior lodge—senior in rank , but not in years—has gone on for so long a period without obtaining for its members the usual facilities for becoming acquainted with thc mysteries of thc Royal Arch Degree . We confess that it does seem strange on the face of it , that our lodge No . I
should have remained chapterless so long , but we believe it is due , not to the indifference of thc members to this branch of Masonry , but to the fact of an application for a Chapter Warrant made some half-century since not having received that amount of consideration which thc petition of so ancient and distinguished a lodge deserved . Be this as it may , however ,
the shortcoming will be remedied on Monday next , and henceforth Grand Masters' Lodge will have its Royal Arch Chapter . A word as to thc Principals designate . These are , all thrce of them , Aldermen ancl Past Lord Ma 3 'ors of London and Past Grand Junior Wardens of United Grand Lodge , the senior of the three being also a Past Grand Scribe N . of
Supreme Grand Chapter . AH three of them likewise have had their civic services recognised by thc Queen , the M . E . Z . Designate being Comp . Sir F . WYATT TRUSCOTT , Knt . ; and the H . and J . Designate , Comps . Sir J . WHITTAKER ELLIS , Bart ., M . P ., and Sir R . N . FOWLER , Bart ., M . P .,
respectively . So bright a constellation of municipal and Masonic luminaries is not among our every day experiences , and we hope , as we believe , that a chapter which is launched under such brilliant auspices will have before it a long and brilliant career .
* * * THE St . Botolph's Lodge , No . 2020 , is to be complimented on the success of its second anniversary gathering on Monday . There was a strong attendance both of visitors and members , and the proceedings from first to last showed clearly enough that under the genial rule of its twice-chosen
Master , Bro . Lord Mayor Staples , the lodge had established itself on a firm and durable basis . This is no more than we had expected . Where lodges , or any other bodies corporate , go on multiplying themselves rapidly , as they have done of late years in the English Craft , there will always be found some which have , so to speak , a difficulty in fanning themselves into
existence , and others which remain for years in a condition of gentle and unobtrusive reputabilit . y , doing what is required of them and nothing more . But there are likewise some few which at once create for themselves a name and keep it , and of these the St . Botolph's Lodge is one . It started well , it has gone on well , and will continue in the same fashion . Much of
the success it has attained is due to the zeal and energy of the members , but still more to the prudence and general sense of good-fellowship exhibited by the Master , and we heartily congratulate our right honourable brother and his lodge generally on the goodly edifice they have erected in behalf of Masonry in so short a period of time .
