further business " Hearty good wishes " were expressed by the visiting brethren , and the lodge was closed in peace and harmony . The brethren afterwards celebrated the Festival of St . John with a banquet , which reflected the highest credit on the new proprietress . After the banquet , the VV . M . proposed the toasts of " The Queen " and " The Prince of Wales , " both of which were heartily drunk by the brethren .
Bro . William Goodacre in proposing "The Health of the Right Hon . the Earl of Carnarvon , " said it had been his privilege and pleasure to witness his lordship instal the present VV . M . P . G . M . of that Province ( Bro . the Right Hon . the Earl of Lathom ) into office , and he ( Bro . Goodacre ) felt satisfied that in the person of Lord Carnarvon they had an useful and hardworking Mason . Bro . J . H . Barron , P . G . S . D . West Lane , proposed "The
Health of the M . W . P . G . M ., Bro . Right Hon . the Earl of Lathom , " which was well received , and responded to most enthusiastically . Bro . | A . H . Sansom , P . M ., proposed the toast of "The V . W . Dep . P . G . M ., Bro . the Right Hon . F . Stanley , M . P ., and the Present and Past Provincial Grand Officers of this and the neighbouring provinces , " to which Bros . Charles Cobham , P . G . S . D ., and Barron , P . G . S . D .,
responded . Bro . E . L . Littler , I . P . M ., in proposing "The Health of the VV . M ., " said the toast was , in his opinion , the toast of the evening , and he felt sincere pleasure in proposing it , because Bro . Heaton was a very old friend of his , and he ( Bro . Littler ) had been the means of his joining Masonry . He had been a good working Mason , and thoroughly deserved the position he now occupied . He wished him
health , happiness , and a prosperous year of office , and called upon the brethren to rise and drink heartily the health of their new VV . M . The invitation was promptly responded to , and when the enthusiasm had subsided , Bro . Littler sang , in capital style , " Here's to his Health , " after which , Bro . Heaton , in reply , said he felt much obliged to their I . P . M . for the good things he had said of him . He would
not trouble them with a long speech , but would remark that if he had performed his various duties in the lodge to thc satisfaction of the brethren he felt more than satisfied himself , and he hoped he should , when performing the duties connected with the high position they had placed him in , still continue to give them satisfaction . He would try and maintain the dignity of the lodge , and do his utmost for the cause of Charity , during his tenure of office .
He did not think the Masonic Charities had altogether been neglected by the lodge , but trusted they would be in a position to do more for them in the future than in the past . Bro . R . R . Lisenden , VV . M . 317 , proposed "TheHealth of the Installing Master and Provincial Grand Secretary , Bro . VVm . Goodacre , " and , in so doing , said that all who had witnessed the installation ceremony , performed so ably that afternoon by Bro . Goodacre , would agree with him
that it would be simply impossible for it to be better done . . Bro . Goodacre possessed the two great and valuable gifts of memory and distinct delivery , consequently whatever ceremony he performed was well done . Bro . Goodacre , in reply , after thanking Bro . Lisenden for his kind remarks , said that the present W . M . was the fourth he had installed and also initiated into the lodge , and thus it would be seen that this little lodge could turn
out some good Masons as any in the province , and was by no means the least influential . The VVorshipful Master proposed " The Health of the I . P . M ., Bro . Littler , " who , he said , had filled his position most creditably , and had exhibited the greatest interest in the welfare of the lodge ever since his connection with it , and he ( the W . M . ) had much pleasure in presenting him with a Past Master ' s gold jewel , in the name of the
members , and in token of the respect and esteem in which he was held . Bro . Littler , who seemed very p leased with the jewel , subsequently returned thanks in a few appropriate sentences . Several other toasts were honoured , and the brethren spent a very pleasant evening together . The jewel was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , 47 , Bridge-street , Manchester .

of installing Bro . Peter Heaton , which , it is scarcely necessary to state , was done in that highly-finished manner for which Hro . Goodacre is remarkable . Upon the entrance of all the M . M . ' s to the lodge the Installing Master acquainted them with thc fact of Bro . Heaton ' s installation having become " un fait accompli , " and called upon them to salute him in the customary manner , which being done

further business " Hearty good wishes " were expressed by the visiting brethren , and the lodge was closed in peace and harmony .
