No . 74 is noted as of June 24 th , 1760 , originally , and then as at Birmingham from July i 6 tb , i 8 it ( where it still is ) , under the " Ancient" No . 83 . The note of the Grand Secretary , however , of 1811 , gives only the register on the warrant of August 18 th , 1774 . I see that Bro . Gould gives the original date of No . 17 , Quebec , as A . D . 1751 , and that it was sold to No . 50 in 1757 ; then in r 77 i to Bro . Clarke ; and in 1787 to No .
213 . The last lodge in that case being No . 2 r 3 , the real position as to age would be , according to its original charter , which Bro . Gould gives , as July 3 rd , 17 S 1 . This No . 17 , now under the Grand Lodge of Quebec , was claimed to be of 1721-2 by Bro . Tisdall , of New York , but without any grounds whatever , though many at the time agreed with him . The 213 Lodge had a curious history , the main points being carefully described by Bro . Gould . W . J . HUGHAN . 1 To l-e continued . )

UNITED MASONIC BALL .
The second annual united ball of the Finsbury Park Lodge , No . 1288 , and Crusaders Lodge , No . 1677 , took place on Wednesday last , at Freemasons' Tavern , and was in every respect one cf the most pleasant and genial balls of the season , well meriting the prestige which invariably attaches itself to these festive gatherings of the brethren ,
and to which the public are welcomed with cordiality . Notwithstanding the density of the fog , ( which on this evening was so thick and black that drivers had to descend from their vehicles and walk at their horses' heads , literally feeling their way , ) a goodly company had arrived by half-past nine , when dancing was commenced , and continued with great zeal until a few minutes past twelve ,
when the company adjourned to supper , which was , owing to the large number present , ( upwards of 350 , ) partaken of in three parties , the rooms used for the purpose being the Crown , Sussex , and the Glee . In the principal room , the Crown , Bro . F . S . Rothschild , W . M . presided . At the conclusion of the banquet , which was most recherche , and ably served under the personal supervision of Bro . E .
Dawkins , the President proposed " The Health of the Queen , " and in thc course of his remarks said , Her Majesty ' s virtues were so well known to all , that it was needless to take up thc time of the company by reiterating them . They were all proud of the fact that Her Majesty had three sons in the Craft . This toast , which was as usual , received with the utmost enthusiasm , was followed
by the whole company singing the National Anthem . Bro . F . S . Rothschild , the President , then said , that feeling they were all very anxious to return to the ball room , he would be very brief with the next toast—the toast of the evening—that of " The Ladies . " It was a great pleasure to him personally to propose such a toast , and it was also a source of great pleasure to all the brethren
to have their wifes , sisters , and daughters among them . They were all indebted to the ladies for being present and adding so much to thc pleasures of the evening . With this toast he would couple the name of Bro . Past Master Price , who in reply made some humourous remarks , congratulating the Stewards on the success of the ball . It was , he thought , a great pleasure to have these gatherings at which ladies could be present . He deemed the
toast , for which he had the honour to reply , the most popular toast of thc day . Bro . R . V . Davies , P . M . 1288 , then proposed thc next toast , that of " The President . " He thought very great praise was due to Bro . Rothschild for the indefatigable manner in which he had performed his duties as Hon . Secretary in the preparations for the ball , and also for the able manner in which he had contributed to the
enjoyment of his guests . The President , in rising to respond , was loudly cheered . He thanked the company for the kind manner in which they had received his name , and for their generous opinion of the manner in which he had performed his duties . He was extremely pleased thc ball had been so very successful , considering how much the weather had been against them .
In conclusion he hoped that he would have the pleasure of seeing as many present at the next ball , as there were that night . These remarks ' were loudly applauded by the company present , who afterwards returned to the ball room , where the programme was resumed , and dancing continued with unabated spirit until four a . m .
Dan Godfrey ' s band performed during the evening , some of the most popular airs of thc day , under thc personal direction of that worthy brother . Bro . T . Meekham again gave his valuable services as M . C . The brethren of the two lodges , the Finsbury Park and the Crusaders , are to be congratulated on the success of this , their second annual ball . Not a single hitch
occurred during the evening , thanks to the admirable arrangements made by the Treasurer , Bro . T . Goode , W . M . 1677 , and the Hon . Sec , which were well carried out by an efficient body of Stewards . Among those present we noticed Bros . R . Roy , P . M . 1492 , P . G . P . Cambridgeshire ; H . Hollis , P . M ., P . G .
