Arnold , S 13 ; Sinclair Dunn , 1765 ; W . R . jewett , 13 S 1 ; J oseph Wardley , 13 S 1 ; G . Guterbach , 173 ; and £ . C . Massey . After the banquet which followed the closing of the lodge , the customary loyal and Masonic toasts vvere proposed from
the cross-table , where , as president , Bro . Brander proved himself as able a host as he is a Mason . The toasts " The Queen and the Craft " and " The M . W . G . M ., the Prince of VVales , " vvere , as they always are , very heartily received , but , as usual , there vvas nothing novel said about them to call for reproduction . In proposing " The Health of the Grand Officers , " Bro .
Brander said it afforded him peculiar pleasure to propose that toast , because his Majesty the King of Sweden had rank as a Past Master of the Grand Lodge of England , and , as a native of Sweden himself , he felt a double pleasure in proposing that toast , because he vvas doing honour to the King at the same time that he was paying that compliment to the Grand Officers . His Majesty vvas made
a Past Grand Officer about two years ago , and the brethren vvould not forget that it vvas in Sweden that his Royal Highness the Grand Master was made a Mason . He asked them , in conclusion , to drink " The Health of the Earl of Carnarvon , the Pro Grand Master ; the Earl of Lathom , the Deputy Grand Master ; and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past . "
Bro . Fredk . Hill , I . P . M ., then rose , and said it vvas his pleasant duty to call attention to the toast of "The VVorshipful Master . " The brethren had in the Master who had been installed that evening one he was sure who vvould be a credit tothe City of Westminster Lodge . He ( Bro . Hill ) had himself worked up to the position of Master in a humdrum way , but in the person of the W . M ., installed that
evening , they had a brother who had learned every Degree in Freemasonry , and he vvas sure they vvould lind Bro . Brander more efficient than he had been . He therefore asked them to drink very heartily the health of the present VVorshipful Master . Bro . Brander , in reply , said he heartily thanked the brethren and the I . P . M . for the manner in which the toast had
been proposed and received . He had already tried to do his best in following the footsteps of his predecessors , and he should carry out the duties of the chair in as able a manner as he could , and so maintain the reputation of the lodge . He had now to propose "TheHealth of the I . P . M ., " and it vvas a toast that he was sure would be well received , for they all knew how well Bro . Hill had carried out his
duties in the lodge , and he felt sure that they had been carried out to the satisfaction of thebrethren . Of course Bro . Hill had had his little difficulties , but he had a very efficient colleague in Bro . Cox . It was a very great pleasure to him ( Bro . Brander ) to have the honour of presenting Bro . Hill with a . jewel , which had been voted to him by the brethren for the way in which he had performed his duties as
Master of the lodge . In investing him with it , he hoped Bro . Hill vvould be spared long to wear it , and look upon it as a token of the regard of the brethren of the lodge . Bro . Hill , in reply , said it was with a great amount of pleasure that he stood before the brethren that evening ' , having passed from the Master ' s chair to that of the I . P . M . He vvas initiated in the lodge some years ago , and he had
tried to do his best . He had passed through each office in the lodge , and had reached that of the Master . But it was with Masons as with other men ; some had ten talents , some had five , and some had but one . He had not the ten talents , but had tried to make the best of what he had . He happened to be in the position of following' a brother who had ten talents , and he ( Bro . Hill ) vvas indebted to that
brother for putting him through the lodge generally . He had also helped him considerably in his year of office , and he should ahvays be warmly grateful to Bro . Cox for what he had done for him . He felt now that he had gone through the work better able to do it than he had ever been before . He vvould have liked to do a little more work if it had been put before him . He should always do his best to ass st his
successor in his year of oflice . He vvould contess , however , that he did not believe he could have done the principal ceremony that evening as Bro . Cox had done it . Bro . Hill concluded by thanking the brethren for thc jewel they had given him , and Bro . Brander for the kind words with which the gift vvas bestowed . The next toast was that of "The Installing Officer , " to
which Bro . Cox responded , in doing' which he took occasion to thank Bro . Brander and other brethren of the lodge for their great kindness to him during the almost fatal illness from which he had now recovered . He said he had installed his successor as a matter of duty , and he had gladly done the work also for Bro . Hill , whose business had prevented him from working up the ceremony sufficiently to
do it to his own satisfaction . The VV . M . next proposed "The Health of the Visitors , " which vvas responded to by Bros . Mason , Halliday , Spurgin , and others . In proposing "The Health of the Three Initiates , " the W . M . was sure that they would be a valuable addition to
the lodge . Their earnestness during thc ceremony they had gone through vvas such as to commend them to notice . Bros . Heilbron , Charpentier , and Muddle having responded , several other toasts were proposed . "The Health ofthe Past Masters of the Lodge " and " The Treasurer and Secretary " was responded to by Bros . Hammond , Shand , P . M ., and Smith , P . M . Then followed "The Officers of the Lodge , " which

brought the Senior and Junior Wardens to their legs , and then the Tyler's toast closed the proceedings of a most enjoyable meeting . A word must be added in regard to the music with which the after-dinner proceeding's vvere enlivened . There is a strong Trinity College element in the City of Westminster Lodge , and at an installation it follows almost as a matter
of course that there are several guests from that musical lodge . The performers on the present occasion were Bro . Sinclair Dunn , who charmed his audience with the "Death of Nelson " and other songs , and , in company with Bro . Arthur VV . Lane , executed the duet " Excelsior . " Bro . Burritt Lane gave " To-morrow will be Friday , " and Bro .
Hammond " The Entered Apprentice ' s Song . " In the way of instrumental music , the lodge had the benefit of Bro . Burritt Lane's services as accompanist at the pianoforte , and Bro . J . A . Hamilton ravished the ears of his audience with a solo on the flute and another on the piccolo , with pianoforte accompaniment .
Farringdon Without Lodge ( No . 1745 ) — This lodge—which is increasing in prosperity every year and one of the few lodges that keep up the representative principles of the founders and for which its warrant vvas granted—met at the Viaduct Hotel , Holborn , on Monday , the 25 th ult . M . vvas elected to represent the lodge as its Steward at the next festival of the R . M . I , for Girls , and Bro . Capt . Walls gave a notice of motion " i'hat the sum of live "uineas be voted from the lodge funds to head the W . M . ' s

pension of £ 350 a year ( especially as any pension meets . with the disapproval of a large number of brethren ) , and desires respectfully but emphatically to point out the certain effect of such a misappropriation of the funds of the Institution in checking the growing feeling in favour of the Charities , and thereby lessening the support hitherto so heartily accorded them .

Binckes , the Secretary of the R . M . I , for Boys , of the proposed extensive
pension of £ 350 a year ( especially as any pension meets . with the disapproval of a large number of brethren ) , and desires respectfully but emphatically to point out the certain effect of such a misappropriation of the funds of the Institution in checking the growing feeling in favour of the Charities , and thereby lessening the support hitherto so heartily accorded them .
