that night , and that was the unanimous and enthusiastic manner in which the brethren of the lodge had agreed to the proposition of voting £$ 0 towards the building of the new ^ Masonic temple , which would make considerably over £ 400 from that lodge and its members . That was
something to be very proud of , but go on labouring for the same good cause . For himself , his services were always at their disposal , and if ever he could be of any service in this matter he would only be too happy to lend a helping hand . Bro . Dr . R . H . D . Johnston , P . M ., also
responded to the toast . The W . M . next proposed "Our newly Initiated Brethren , " which was suitably responded to . "The Visitors , " given from the chair , was acknowledged by Bro . A . Jones , A . Davies , and G . Lyall ; and "The Officers , " acknowledged by Bro . J . Hayes , J . W .
No greater treat was furnished during the evening—a singularly harmonious and happy one —than by the exceedingly funny comicalities of Bro . H . W . Nicholas , I . G . ( surnamed the " P . G . Comique" ) , whose reading and rendering of such songs as " The Editor , " ( said to have been written by an unknown author , named
Mac-Kenzie ) " Bill Jenkins , " and kindred productions , caused the utmost hilarity . Bro . Veale ( who was at the harmonium ) , Bro . Ellis , and Bro . Dr . Johnston also contributed to the pleasantness of the evening by giving some capital songs . LANCASTER . —Lodge of Fortitude ( No . 281 ) . ' —The annual installation in connection with this
ancient and prosperous lodge took place on Monday , the 29 th inst ., at the Masonic Rooms , Athenseum . The W . M ., Bro . Fleming , having opened the lodge in the first and second degrees and other business having been transacted , Dr . Moore , P . G . S . B . of England , was desired by the
W . M . to perform the ceremony of installing the W . M . elect , Bro . Edward Airey , into the chair of K . S ., to which he most cheerfully gave his assent , and forthwith discharged those duties in an effective manner , worthy of that distinguished officer . The town of Lancaster possesses in Bro .
Dr . Moore such an example of assiduity in the cause of Masonic art sufficient to make other towns desirous of the possession of such a brother , who is ever foremost in the cause of Masonry , and who has earned for himself the reputation of being one of the first installing
officers in the county Palatine ; this combined with the fact of the great popularity of the W . M . elect , Bro . Airey , who has made rapid strides and done much good work in the Craft , caused the brethren to assemble in large numbers to witness his installation . The following officers
were appointed : Bros . R . Gregson , S . W . ; T . Atkinson , J . W . ; James Hatch , Treasurer ; Edmund Simpson , Secretary ; ( entering on his 20 th year of office ) ; R . Taylor , S . D . ; Duff , J . D . ; Dr . Saul , I . G . Before the lodge was closed a sum of money was voted in order to make the J . W . a life Governor of the Royal
Masonic Institution for aged Freemasons and their Widows . A banquet ( at the King ' s Arms Hotel ) , of the most recherche character , provided by Bro . HAYLE . —Corinthian Lodge ( No . 450 ) . —The annual meeting of the brethren of this lodge was held in the new lodge room at Hayle , on Tuesday , December 30 , 1874 , for the purpose of installing the new W . M ., and for appointing the officers for the year ensuing . The brethren met
for the first time in their new lodge , which is one of the handsomest in the West of England . Hitherto " Cornubian" has had a lodge room in the White Hart Hotel , but its numbers having so greatly increased—there being now above 80 members belonging to the lodge—it was felt
desirable to have a new lodge room . Premises suitable were found in the block of cottages at the side of the hotel , which formerl y constituted the old White Hart , and these were completely gutted , and an extremely handsome and commodious lodge has been formed therein . The
lodge is 38 ft . in length by 25 ft . in breadth , and 12 ft . 9 m . high . There is also an ante-room upstairs , 12 ft . by 9 ft . The lodge room has been prepared and decorated by Bro . Thomas Solomon , of Phoenix Lodge , Truro , P . P . S . G . W ., and for its good taste and elegance it reflects the
