The W . M . in returning thanks , said that his sole object in accepting the high office conferred upon him would be to carry out the duties of Masonry in its integrity , and that he would endeavour to acquit himself in the same creditable manner which had so satisfactorily been done in

interest they took in Masonry in general and the Franklin Lodge in particular , brought one the most successful , harmonious , and enjoyable evenings ever held under the auspices of the Franklin Lodge to a close . WHITEHAVEN . —Lewis Lods . e ( No . 872 ) . —
St . John ' s Festival was held at Whitehaven , on Friday , Dec . 26 th , by the brethren of the above lodge , at their Masonic Hall , Duke-street , on which occasion Brother Thomas Atkinson , grocer , Roper-street , was installed as the Worship ful Master for the ensuing year . The
Lodge having been duly opened by the retiring W . M ., Bro . William Gill , P . P . G . T ., Bro . Atkinson was presented by Bro . Gill , and installed in the chair of King Solomon by Bro . C . Morton , P . P . G . S . W ., and P . M . of Lewis Lodge , No . 872 , in the most pleasing and
impressive manner , to the delight of the brethren , who admired his performance of that beautiful ceremony . The newly installed W . M . afterwards apppointed the following worthy brethren as his his officers , viz .: Dr . Ablett , S . W . ; Bros . Mitchell , J . W . ; Twentyman , Hon . Sec ;
Spittall , Hon . Treas . ; Rev . R . B . Labarte , Chap . ; Bro . Robinson , S . D . ; Charleton , J . D . ; Cooper , P . P . G . O ., Org . ; Sewell , I . G . 3 Salisbury , P . M ., Tyler ; and J . Morton and and A . Hardie , Stewards . The solemn ceremony being ended the lodge was duly closed
according to ancient custom . The brethren retired tothe refreshment room , where awaited them a substantial dinner , prepared by Mrs . Hughan , the widow of our late lamented brother , which elicited the greatest praise and was done ample justice to by all present . The wines , spirits , & c ,
provided by Bro . Huddleston , P . J . W ., and Bro . Morton , P . I . G ., gave every satisfaction . After the usual Masonic toasts had been gone through , which were interspersed with songs , recitations , & c , the brethren separated in good harmony thoroughly well pleased with their
entertainment . Without flattery we may state that the furniture , pictures , and ornaments of this lodge are most beautiful , and of the most modern design , having been mgde expressly some two years ago ; many brethren have made handsome presents , which all add to its beauty . At present
the walls are not thoroughly dry , the lodge having been built for them some three years ago , at the entire expense of the lodge and remain in an unfinished state , but in the course of another year , when all is completed this lodge will be second to none , either in Cumberland or
Westmoreland . The columns , made of cedar , presented by Bro . Bentinck , M . P ., are worthy of a sight , the workmanship on each is truly magnificent . It is gratifying to notice how the brethren are working in unison to make their lodge room comfortable , beautiful , and attractive
to its members , and we do most heartily wish them the success they trul y deserve . We must not close without making mention of one worthy brother , who labours with all his heart and soul for the good and welfare of this lodge in particular , and the name of that brother is C . Morton
the Installing Master , who we may state makes it is duty to be at every instruction nig ht , which accounts for the beautiful manner the Master and his officers go through their arduous duties . CARDIFF . —Bute Lodge ( No . 960 ) . —The brethren of this lodge met at four o ' clock on
Tuesday , Dec . 23 , for the purpose of installing their W . M . elect for the ensuing year . The lodge-room in Consulate Chambers , formerly the board-room of the Taff Vale Railway Company , has been recently re-furnished and
decorated in an exceedingly beautiful manner by Messrs . Cram and Taylor , and reflects great credit upon those artists . The attendance , especially of Past Masters and distinguished brethren , was , for some reason , particularly meagre , the only visitors of distinction present

the Very Worshipful Deputy Provincial Grand Master , Bro . E . Morris , but some time after the lodge assembled , a telegram was received from that Worshipful brother announcing his unavoidable detention at Carmarthen . Some consternation was occasioned by the unexpected
intelligence , as the ceremony , being a long and difficult one , requires some preparation ; but Bro . F . Ware , P . Prov . G . Registrar and P . M . of the lodge , being present , undertook , and performed the duty in a manner which elicited a cordial and unanimous vote of thanks from the
lodge . The ceremony concluded , the newlyinstalled W . M . proceeded to appoint and invest his officers as follows : —Bro . T . C . Shelper , I . P . M . ; Bros . E . Quelch , S . W . ; T . W . by Bros . S . and A . Homfray , after which the lodge was closed in due form , and the brethren proceeded to the Windsor Hotel , where | the installation . banquet had been provided by the host , Bro . Waters . The newly installed W . M . ( Bro . W . H . Davies ) presided , and was supported
by the before-mentioned visitors , together with Past Masters Shelper and Weichert . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given and responded to , and the proceedings were enlivened by some excellent songs from Bros . Moreton , Elliott , and Smith , to the able accompaniment of
Bro . Atkins , Prov . G . Organist . Bro . Hon . H . W . Short , ( American Consul ) recently initiated in this lodge , also gave an able recitation . Before the brethren separated , the health of Bro . Waters , and " thanks for his excellent entertainment , " was heartily given and responded to .
MARKET RASEN . —Bayon s Lodge ( No . 1286 ) . —A larger muster than usual of the brethren of this prosperous lodge met at the Com Exchange , Market Rasen , on the 20 th ult ., on the occasion of the installation of Bro . Rev . John C . K . Saunders as W . M ., evidencing the great
interest taken in the business of the meeting . The lodge was opened by Bro . E . E . Irwins , I . P . M . and T ., assisted by Bros . J . W . Makins , W . M . ; Rev . J . C . K . Saunders , S . Cocking , Org . ; H . C . Chambers , D . C . After the investiture the W . M . briefly addressed the brethren on some points of practical
importance , and announced , his intention to deliver a course of lectures on Freemasonry during his year of office . The other business of the lodge having been disposed of , the brethren retired for refreshment .
The vital spring contaminated sows misery , destruction , and death . To ensure health it is absolutely necessary that the fluids and solids of the human body should be kept free from those impurities which are continually getting into the system through erroneous living , unwholesome atmosphere , or disordered stomach . The only safe and certain way to expel impurities is to take Holloway's
pills , which have the power of cleansing the blood from all noxious matters , and at the same time removing any irregularity which their presence has produced in any organ . Holloway ' s pills expel all humours which taint and impoverish the blood , which they purify and invigorate , and give general tone . They are applicable alike to both young and old , robust or delicate . —ADVT .
