The next business was the election of W . M . for the ensuing year , and Bro . VV . Dornan , S . VV ., owing to domestic affliction and pressure of business , expressed a desire to waive his right for another year , whereupon Bro . Thomas Sharpies , J . W ., a very old member , and highly esteemed amongst the brethren for his genial manner , generosity , and interest in the Craft , was elected by an almost
unanimous vote . Bro . J . M . Kerr was re-elected Treasurer ( fourth time ) by a unanimous vote . Bro . P . Yates , P . M ., was re-elected Almoner , and Bro . J . Jolly , Tyler . Bro . Joseph Eatock was passed to the Second Degree , and Bro . Joseph Westall was raised to the Sublime Degree . Dr . Whitham was balloted for and elected for initiation , and the lodge was closed in the customary solemn manner .
CAMBRIDGE . — Isaac Newton University Lodge ( No . S 59 ) . —Raising of Prince Albert Victor . —Soon after the initiation of H . R . H . Prince Albert Victor by the Grand Master of England in the Royal Alpha Lodge , the Prince became a joining member member of the Isaac Newton University Lodge , No . S 59 , and the prospect of his Royal Highness being passed , or raised , in the University Lodge was anticipated with unusual intereft in the Province
of Cambridgeshire . The Second Degree , it will he remembered , was conferred at Great Yarmouth . The honour of conferring the Third Degree was reserved for the Isaac Newton , and that it was thoroughly appreciated in Cambridge was patent from the large assembly which met there on Monday last . It was originally intended that the ceremony should take place in the customary lodge room at the Lion Hotel ; but so strong and universal was the desire on
the part of brethren in the locale to be present at the ceremony , that the W . M . of the Isaac Newton , Bro . B . Anningson , M . D ., wisely determined to make application for the holding of this emergency lodge at the Guildhall , which , it is needless to say , was promptly granted by the authorities of the province . The large Assembly Room was accordingly fitted up , and in the matter of ample space served admirably for the purpose ; whilst there was the
additional advantage of the town organ at [ command , alalthough it was sometimes felt that the acoustic properties of the hall were not all that could be desired . The brethren assembled at six o ' clock , and , at a moderate computation , there could not be many under 300 who signed the book . They included several Officers of Grand Lodge , besides the majority of the three Cambridge lodges , and a goodly number of visitors from distant parts , as will presently be shewn .
The lodge having been opened in due form , the Present and Past Officers of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Cambridgeshire ( with Bro . J . Neal York , D . P . G . M ., at their head ) marched in in procession , and took up positions on the immediate right and left of the chair . Shortly afterwards Bro . Philbrick , Bro . Martyn , and other Grand Officers were admitted , and a little later the Earl of Kintore , Sub . Grand Master ot Scotland , together with Bro . W . L .
Morgan , W . M . of the Apollo Lodge , Oxford , and other brethren from the sister University . Bro . Prince Albert Victor occupied a seat near to the W . M . ' s chair , amongst the Officers of Grand Lodge . The proceedings commenced with the initiation of Messrs . Dumas and Finch , which was impressively carried out by the W . M . The First Degree concluded , we passed to the Second , and Prince Albert Victor was called up . The Royal
candidate having answered and retired , the lodge was opened in the Third Degree and properly prepared . The accessories of the hall admirably answered the purpose , and perhaps nothing could have been more appropriate for the ceremony of raising . Bro . Anningson and his officers went through their work carefully and well , and the proceedings throughout were sublime to a degree , affording the liveliest satisfaction to
those present . A recherche banquet was afterwards served up in the lodge room , at the Lion Hotel , by Bro . A . H . Moyes , P . M . The chair was ably filled by the W . M ., Bro . The enjoyment of the meeting was greatly promoted by some excellent singing by Bros . Shakespeare , Wilmot , Astington , Ridpath , Kilvington , and others , Bro . The chapter was opened and a conclave of Installed Principals was formed , when Comp . M . Millington , the H . elect , was installed in his chair by E . Comp . T . B . Whytehead , P . Z ., Comp . Millington having been prevented by illness from being installed at the regular
meeting . Successful ballots were taken for four candidates , and Bro . T . E . Abbey was exalted by the First Principal , the mystical lecture being given by Comp . Whytehead , P . Z . A notice was read from the Prov . Grand Scribe E . announcing that the Prov . Grand Chapter would be held at Middlesborough on the 19 th inst ., and the M . E . Z . invited the companions to accompany him . After the close of the chapter the members and visitors adjourned to the supper room and partook of an excellent

CAMBRIDGE . — Isaac Newton University Lodge ( No . S 59 ) . —Raising of Prince Albert Victor . —Soon after the initiation of H . R . H . Prince Albert Victor by the Grand Master of England in the Royal Alpha Lodge , the Prince became a joining member member of the Isaac Newton University Lodge , No . S 59 , and the prospect of his Royal Highness being passed , or raised , in the University Lodge was anticipated with unusual intereft in the Province
of Cambridgeshire . The Second Degree , it will he remembered , was conferred at Great Yarmouth . The honour of conferring the Third Degree was reserved for the Isaac Newton , and that it was thoroughly appreciated in Cambridge was patent from the large assembly which met there on Monday last . It was originally intended that the ceremony should take place in the customary lodge room at the Lion Hotel ; but so strong and universal was the desire on
the part of brethren in the locale to be present at the ceremony , that the W . M . of the Isaac Newton , Bro . B . Anningson , M . D ., wisely determined to make application for the holding of this emergency lodge at the Guildhall , which , it is needless to say , was promptly granted by the authorities of the province . The large Assembly Room was accordingly fitted up , and in the matter of ample space served admirably for the purpose ; whilst there was the
additional advantage of the town organ at [ command , alalthough it was sometimes felt that the acoustic properties of the hall were not all that could be desired . The brethren assembled at six o ' clock , and , at a moderate computation , there could not be many under 300 who signed the book . They included several Officers of Grand Lodge , besides the majority of the three Cambridge lodges , and a goodly number of visitors from distant parts , as will presently be shewn .
The lodge having been opened in due form , the Present and Past Officers of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Cambridgeshire ( with Bro . J . Neal York , D . P . G . M ., at their head ) marched in in procession , and took up positions on the immediate right and left of the chair . Shortly afterwards Bro . Philbrick , Bro . Martyn , and other Grand Officers were admitted , and a little later the Earl of Kintore , Sub . Grand Master ot Scotland , together with Bro . W . L .
Morgan , W . M . of the Apollo Lodge , Oxford , and other brethren from the sister University . Bro . Prince Albert Victor occupied a seat near to the W . M . ' s chair , amongst the Officers of Grand Lodge . The proceedings commenced with the initiation of Messrs . Dumas and Finch , which was impressively carried out by the W . M . The First Degree concluded , we passed to the Second , and Prince Albert Victor was called up . The Royal
candidate having answered and retired , the lodge was opened in the Third Degree and properly prepared . The accessories of the hall admirably answered the purpose , and perhaps nothing could have been more appropriate for the ceremony of raising . Bro . Anningson and his officers went through their work carefully and well , and the proceedings throughout were sublime to a degree , affording the liveliest satisfaction to
