The Builder thus describes the huge steel structure to be erected at Chicago as a Masonic Temple : "The new Masonic Temple at Chicago , for the supply of structural steel , of which a contract has just been obtained by the
Columbia Iron and Steel Company , Pittsburgh , will be a building 20 stories high , the chief feature of which is a skeleton of steel , round which the masonry will be built . The building will measure 113 ft . by 170 ft . in plan , and will rest on a foundation of steel rails . The steel work will weigh between 3500 and 4000 tons , and will be made at Pittsburgh ready to be put together without any alterations Every
piece will be exactly fitted , holes drilled , connections dovetailed , and all details adjusted , so that the work of erecting the skeleton can be proceeded with with celerity . In fact , the entire work of erecting the steel structure may be completed before the masons and bricklayers begin their part of the work . The contract for the steel has been taken at 300 , 000 dols ., and the whole building is estimated to cost 2 , 000 , 000 dols . "

We were glad to notice at the meeting of the Drury Lane Lodge on Tuesday that the practice of Worshipful Masters endorsing the warrant on the expiration of their year of office was adopted at the suggestion of Bro . The dance , which took place on the date
arranged for the third of Mrs . Ratliffe's popular Cinderellas , attracted the excellent company of 120 ladies and gentlemen , and in every respect the affair was a splendid success . Mr . C . E . William Hall , of Linden-terrace , Tanshelf , Pontefract , completed his 50 th year as a Freemason of West Yorkshire , and is probably the oldest Freemason in the whole of Yorkshire , Bro . A meeting of the General Committee of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution was held on Friday evening , the 6 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , Liverpool , under the presidency of Bro . George Harradon , Prov . Grand Treasurer , one of the Vice-Presidents of the Charity . Applications were made for a number of children to be placed on the list of candidates for election at the next
Court of Governors , and , without discussion , the sum of £ . / - was voted for the proposed purpose . ' 1 he amended by-laws of the Institution were submitted , and it was resolved to forward them for lull and free discussion at the next meeting of the General Court of Governors . The financial statement of Bro . J . T . Callow , Past Provincial Grand Treasurer , showed that the present invested fund of the
Charity amounts to £ 21 , 562 . There are now nearly 220 children receiving the benefits of the Educational Fund , in addition to which a considerable number of boys and g"ir ! s are also being educated , clothed , and maintained . Hie balance-sheet likewise shows that last year there was a surplus of £ 1171 ; that the proceeds of the ball in 1 S 9 0
