Kilvington , I . P . M ., rendered the usual addresses to the W . M ., Wardens , and brethren . Other business was transacted , and the lodge was formally closed . An excellent banquet , catered for by Bro . Tarry , was enjoyed by the brethren , and was followed by the usual toasts .

Bro . J . Kilvington , I . P . M ., in proposing "Health , Prosperity , and Success to the VV . M ., " said he had no doubt they had the right man in the right place in having Bro . Fleming as the W . M . of the Old England Lodge . " Their W . M . was an older Mason than he ( the I . P . M . ) , and took a very great interest in the lodge of which he had attained the chair . The brethren were convinced that they would find

in Bro . Fleming a good and worthy Mason , and one well fitted for the position in which he was placed . It was therefore with great pleasure that he had for the first time to propose the health of the W . M . Bro . R . G . Fleming , M . D ., W . M ., in reply , said no words could express the pleasure he felt at the high honour conferred upon him—an honour of which he was proud .

When he thought of the arduous duties , and the able manner in which they had been performed by his predecessors , he felt he should have many shortcomings , but with the kind assistance of the officers he should endeavour to rule the lodge to the entire satisfaction of all the brethren . He should not promise too much , but he would do the best he could to carry on the lodge to their satisfaction . He

begged to thank them sincerely for the hearty manner in which the toast of his health had been proposed and received . " The Immediate Past Master" was next given by the W . M ., who remarked that Bro . Kilvington , I . PJVL , had done his work during the past year in a most exemplary manner , for under his rule the lodge had made great progress , and

had never before been in such a prosperous condition . The I . P . M . had initiated several candidates , and several brethren had joined during the past year . It was therefore with much pleasure that he presented the I . P . M ., Bro . Jonathan Kilvington , with a Past Master ' s jewel in recognition of the ability displayed by him during his term in the chair , and it was the sincere wish of all the members that he would live

long to wear it . Bro . J . Kilvington , I . P . M ., assured the brethren that it was a matter of very great regret to him that he was compelled to leave the chair . He thanked them for the very hearty reception with which the toast had been greeted . They had his assurance that the past year had been one of the happiest of his life j in fact , he might say

the happiest . He had tried to carry out the duties of the high office to which he was elected 12 months ago , and hoped he had given satisfaction . If he had not done so , it was not for the want of trying . When he looked round and saw the array of Past Masters , amongst whom he was now numbered , he felt most grateful for the kind and unanimous vote of the lodge one month ago , when it was

resolved to present him with the splendid Past Master ' s jewel which he now wore . That jewel had been received by him with very heart-felt thankfulness , and he trusted never to disgrace it . When it came to his lot to give up the jewel he trusted to be able to give an account of his Stewardship . He should like to give one word of advice to the brethren taking office , which was that he hoped they would follow in

the footsteps of the Past Masters to maintain the prestige of the lodge by good working , which was only to be attained by constant attendance at lodges of instruction . Bro . E . Whittaker , P . M ., replied for " The Past Masters , " and said he was sorry to have been obliged to absent himself for four years , but previous to that he did not think he missed a single attendance . When the lodge was first

started they had uphill work , but he never saw the lodge in a more prosperous state than now . Bros . Price , Fletcher , Cole , and Laughlin returned thanks on behalf of "The Visitors . " "The Initiate" and "The Treasurer and Secretary " were followed by "The Officers , " and the Tyler ' s toast

closed a successful evening . The musical arrangements were under the able direction of Bro . Kilvington , I . P . M ., who was assisted by Bros . F . R . Rayner , A . \ Vilmot , F . T . Ridpath , H . C . Sherry , and J . Grew . Bro . F . Laughlin presided in a brilliant manner at the pianoforte .

YORK . Eboracum Lodge ( No . 1611 ) . —The regular monthly meeting was held in Freemasons' Hall , St . Saviourgate , on the 9 th inst ., when there were present Bros . Geo . Chapman , W . M . ' j G . Halliwell , I . G . ; VV . Brown , P . M . ; VV . B . Dyson , P . M . ; and several other brethren and visitors , amongst the latter being Bro . W . F . Tomlinson , P . M . The business consisted of two raisings , which were worked by Bro . T . B . Whytehead , P . M ., who also presented to the lodge a copy of Hogarth ' s " Morning . " A candidate was proposed , and the lodge was closed . Next month it is proposed to make further improvements

in this building . The upper rooms of the Tyler ' s cottage are to be converted into preparation rooms , & c , a new lavatory is to be constructed , and a powerful stove placed in the entrance , all of which will add greatly to the convenience , comfort , and health of the members . The organ—a three manual instrument—has also been completed , and will be placed in position in the lodge room at the same time . It will be blown by water power , and is erected by special subscription .

The lodge being opened , the minutes of the meeting held on the 22 nd ult . were read and confirmed . Bro . Baker having offered his services as candidate , was examined and entrusted , and the lodge opened in the Second Degree , and on the candidate's return to the lodge , the ceremony of passing was rehearsed by the W . M ., and the 2 nd Section of the Second Lecture was worked by Bro . VV . H . Kirby . The lodge was closed in the Second Degree . On

the W . M . rising for lirst time , Bro . Dr . A . E . Barrett was proposed and seconded as a joining member . Bro . Kirby was elected W . M . for the meeting on the 5 th inst ., and appointed his officers , and announced that the work for rehearsal would be the Third ceremony . This being the first occasion on which Bro . Barrett had occupied the chair of this lodge , the customary vote of thanks was cordially voted him , to which he responded in very agreeable terms . The lodge was then closed .

The lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Page candidate . The lodge was opened in the Second Degree . Bro . Wood vacated the chair in favour of Bro . Page , who rehearsed the ceremony of installation . The lodge was opened in the Third Degree , when Bro . Thomas was duly installed into the

chair of K . S . according to ancient custom . The brethren saluted the W . M . in the Three Degrees , after which the Installing Master delivered the three addresses . The S . VV ., Bro . Dillon , was elected W . M . for the next meeting of the lodge . A vote of thanks was passed , and entered on the minutes , to Bro . G . V . Wood , the VV . M ., for the efficient

manner in which he had presided over the lodge for the first time , also to Bro . Page for the able manner in which he rehearsed the ceremony of installation for the lirst time in this lodge . It was resolved that the lodge adjourn until the first Tuesday in September . Nothing further offering for the good of Freemasonry , after" Hearty good wishes " the lodge was closed .

CAMDEN LODGE ( No . 704 ) . —This lodge has lately removed from Burnt Ash Hill , Lee , to Lewisham , where its meetings will in future be held on Thursday evenings throughout the year , at the new Masonic Rooms , adjoining the White Hart Hotel , 116 , High-street , near the Lewisham Junction Railway Station . A spacious apartment , lofty and well-ventilated , has been placed at the disposal of the lodge ,

and is so situated as to secure privacy of entrance and assembly . The meeting on Thursday , the 5 th inst ., was presided over by Bro . C . Thomas , as W . M ., and there were present Bros . J . A . Shelton , as S . VV . ; E . Webb , J . VV . ; Trant , S . D . ; Cartwright , J . D . ; VV . Robin , Sec ; Levy , P . M . ; F . Cutt , P . M . ; Joyce , D . VVhite , C . Stevens , P . M ., P . Z ., is the Preceptor , and Bro . VV . Dale , Assistant Preceptor , and both were also present . A very interesting and instructive evening was passed , the lodge working in the First Degree , with ceremony , charge , and explanations in regard to certain points , which were

greatly appreciated by the brethren . Bro . Shelton was elected W . M . for the ensuing week , and a large attendance may be expected . VVe have been asked to state that the lodge of instruction desires to extend a cordial welcome to brethren who may honour them as visitors .
