and that was the presenting to Bro . John S . Boyd , of Toronto , Ont ., a Masonic Apron , upon which was the signatures of W . Bro . J . C . F . Tower , W . M . j W . Bro . H . N . Price , l . P . present , and Bro . G . Reynolds , W . M . 2191 , in responding for " The Visitors , " said another proof had been given that the American brethren appreciated visiting English lodges , and the great interest they took in the work , and if ever any of the brethren present ever visited America and went to the lodges there , he could assure them they would have a hearty welcome . He could speak from experience . There

was no doubt that Masonry was doing wonders between the two great nations by strengthening the bonds of fellowship . Before parting the brethren unanimously subscribed to a testimonial to Miss Collins , the sister of the worthy host , in recognition of the kindness and attention to them since the formation of the lodge , and this enjoyable meeting was brought to a close . The work of the lodge was everything that one would wish to see .

Willats ' s Balmoral Hotel .

The unanimous opinion of those who had experience of Masonic banquets was that Bro . and Mrs . Willats had determined to provide a feast that should bear favourable comparison with the tip-top London lodge banquets , and that they had carried out that determination with complete success . It could not have been done better , and the enjoyment was genuine and unqualified . The surroundings too

, , were worthy of the menu , and the table appointments and decorations , many of which were supplied by the W . M . himself , were elegant and costly . The musical arrangements were under the direction of Bro . Donald VV . Lott , the Organist of the lodge , wh . i also officiated at the piano . Miss Annie Cheat had a hearty welcome , and her songs gave infinite delight to the brethren . She has a fine contralto voice and a pleasing method . Bro .

Byron Dewhurst , of Canterbury Cathedral is , of course , so well known , that it is needless to say he was in great request , Bro . Lane gave some gold sjng-i , and Bro . K . T . Baker introduced a very clever and laughable ventrilciquial entertainment . A unique feature of the banquet was a very beautiful bill of fare , got up in old English style , and q lite a work of art in its way .

Provincial Meetings.

The lodge having been opened and the minutes confirmed , the ballot was taken for Mr . A . Althorpe , and , proving unanimous , he was duly initiated , after which tha following interesting ceremony took place : Ever since the foundation of the Abbey Lodge Bro . Bidwell , who has passed the chair and acted as Secretary , has taken the very greatest Jinterest in the welfare of the lodge , and when it became known that the Provincial Grand

Master had conferred upon him the office and degree of Grand Director of Ceremonies for the province , the information was received with the greatest satisfaction . A motion was immediately set on foot by one or two of the officers of the Abbey Lodge to present Bro . Bidwell with the clothing and emblems necessary for the recently conferred Degree , and with Bro . James Webb as Hon . Sec to the object in view , the funds were very speedily

forthcoming , every member subscribing . Bro . W . Dix , W . M ., rose and said-. Avery pleasing duty falls on me this evening . In the first place I must inform the brethren that our Most Worshipful P . G . M . his been pleased to confer on our esteemed Bro . Bidwell , P . M ., the honour of Director of Ceremonies in Prov . Grand Lodge . We do not only think it an honour to our worthy brother , but we also think it an honour to the lodge . I am

very pleased to say the brethren have thought this , our first monthly meeting of the session , a very fitting opportunity of presenting him with a full set of Provincial Grand clothing , together with the jewel of his office , as a slight acknowledgment of his past valuable se vices to the lodge . We are all aware that he has acted as Secretary to the lodge from its commencement ; he has also been Preceptor of the lodge of instruction for four or five years , and has

rendered other services too numerous to mention . It is needless for me to say more of our brother's good qualities , as I feel quite sure you are all as well aware of them as mjself . 1 will , therefore , ask our brother to accept from my hands , on behalf of the brethren of the lodge , this small token of our esteem and regard . Bro . Bidwell , P . M ., in reply , said : There are times when one cannot express all one feels , and that you will easy

understand me when I say that at this moment I feel at a loss to express , as I could wish , my sense of the manner in which you have been good enough to mil ; my appointment as a Provincial Grand Officer by presenting me with this handsome set of Provincial Grand clothing and jewel . While thanking you most sincerely for this expression of your appreciation of my services , I crn say with truth tint what little I have been ahle to do in the cause of Masonry

generally , or for this lodge in particular , has been done without hope of honour or reward . Nevertheless , it is most gratifying to me that mv humble efforts have been so highly appreciated . That I have worked hard in the interests of this lodge , and done my best to make it a success , I will not attempt to deny , but that work has always been a pleasure to me , and now that I am well assured my efforts have met with your approval , my future w . irk will be a still

greater pleasure , and anytime 1 miy spend in furthering the interests of this lodge I shall consider well spent . I can only again express my gratitude for your kind and handsome gift , and the earnest hope that the future of the Abbey Lodge will be a bright and happy one , and that its members will always be bound together by ties of truest brotherhood .

The Worshipful Master ' s remarks on making the presentation and Bro . Bidwell ' s reply were received with hearty cheering ' . A banquet followed the presentation , and , under the catering of Bro . Mason , it is needless t J say that a capital repast was served . With Bro . Fisher at the piano , and plenty of talent amongst the brethren , a very pleasant evening was spent .

Bro .
