I he newly-installed W . M . having been saluted and proclaimed , appointed his officers as follows : Bros VV Langley , I . P . M . ; F . B . Wilmer , S . W . ; John Younir " J . VV . ; Rev . T . B . Birch , Organist ; VV . H . Key , I . G . ; John Smith and G . W . Rawson , Stwds . ; and John Exton Tyler . And with each collar he recited with much feeling

the correct charges to the several officers . The usual charges having been given to the VV . M . and Wardens by the Installing Master , the D . P . G . M . concluded the ceremony with an impressive address to the brethren of the lodge . The W . M . then presented to his predecessor a very handsome iS caratt P . M . jewel , in which is inserted a small

cube of granite taken from an obelisk which has been in existence some three thousand years , and in doing so he bore testimony to the services of Bro . Langley , who during his year of office had initiated , passed , and raised no less than 22 brethren , on several occasions working all three Degrees in the same evening . After Bro . Langley's reply , the routine of the lodge was

carried out and the lodge closed . The banquet was served at seven o ' clock , when about 60 brethren sat down to a most excellent repast , furnished with Miss Sansome's usual ability and good taste , both cuisine and wines being all that could be desired . The Worshipful Master proposed "The Oueen and the Craft , " also " The R . W . P . G . M . and the Grand Lodge of

England . " To the toast of the Prov . Grand Lodge Bro . S . S . Partrip , D . P . G . M ., responded , heartily congratulating the lodge upon its success and wishing it prosperity in the future . The Immediate Past Master proposed " The Health of the W . M ., " expressing to him his warmest thanks for the kind manner in which he had at all times supported him

during the past year , and dwelling upon the fact that to him must be attributed the first idea of founding a lodge in their village . He added that he felt quite sure it would not be his fault if his year of office was not a successful one , for no one could possibly give the ceremonies of the Order with more careful precision and effect . The Worshipful Master replied at some length , thanking the brethren for the heartiness of the reception of his name ,

and promising in every way to promote the welfare of the lodge and Craft in the Provinces of Leicestershire . 1 he Worshipful Master next proposed " The Health of the I . P . M ., W . Bro . Langley , " whose name was received with much enthusiasm . He then presented to the lodge a handsome loving cup of massive silver , and a silver snuff box , which had been subscribed for by the biethren of the lodge , in appreciation of and to commemorate the eminently successful year of office of the First Master and

founder . Bro . Langley , with much emotion , returned thanks , expressing his very heartfelt gratitude to the brethren of the lodge for the handsome Past Master ' s jewel voted to him , and also their kindness in commemorating his name in the lodge by placing it upon the side of the loving cup and snuff box . He reminded them that some eighteen months

ago , when the idea of establishing a lodge in a country village was first conceived , he had his misgivings as to whether it would answer , but that he felt now his good Bro . Metcalfe ' s prophecy that more than twenty candidates could be found had been verified ; that he was glad indeed the trial had been made . He , as rector of the parish , found that the lodge had done good in the place , that men

had been brought closer together , and could value each other ' s good points better ; and he concluded by wishing that every country village had as well conducted and comfortable a hotel as they had , where it might be possible to follow their example and found a lodge of Freemasons . The toast of " The Sister Lodges of the Province " followed , which was responded to by Bro . E . Watson , VV . M .

20 S 1 , the youngest lodge in the province , which was consecrated in February last . "The Visitors , " responded to by Bros . G . T . Wright and Foxwell ; "The Officers of the Granite Lodge ;" " The Charities , " for which Bro . Capt . Richardson responded in a very eloquent appeal for support for his list for the coming Festival of the Gills' School ; and the

Tyler ' s toast completed the list . During the evening songs and recitations were given and much appreciated by the brethren . Amongst those who thus kindly enlivened the proceedings must not be passed over Bro . F . J . Oliver , whose masterly rendering of " The Desert " will not soon be forgotten , and Bros . Stead , Foster , Lead , C . E . Birch , and Jessop .

the correct charges to the several officers .
