Borlase Childs , Surgeon to the City Police , presided at a meeting of the officers and men of the force on Wednesday , the Sth inst ., when a silver tea and coffee service , and a silver salver were presented to Lieut .-Col . Bowman , who has recently retired on superannuation from the City Police . The presentation was made by Bro . Childs in a very neat , but complimentary speech , and very

warmly acknowledged by Lieut .-Col . Bowman . A special Court of Common Council was held at the Guildhall on Monday , under the presidency of Alderman Sir R . Garden , M . P . The Town Clerk , Bro . Sir j . B . Monckton , having read the official notification of the death of Bro . Lord Mayor Nottage , Bro . E . Dresser Rogers

moved a vote of condolence with the family of our deceased brother . This having been unanimously adopted , and also one to the effect that the resolution be transmitted to the Lady Mayoress , it was further agreed , on motion by Bro . Rogers , that the funeral of his late lordship should be undertaken by the Court , and that application be made to the Dean and Chapter of St . Paul ' s to sanction the burial in St . Paul ' s Cathedral of the deceased .

D ., was unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing year , at a meeting of the

Lodge of Loyalty , No . 1607 , on Saturday last . We are g lad to hear that the health of Bro . Sir Moses Monteflore has improved of late , and that the venerable ex-Sheriff both eats and sleeps well considering his great age . The Court of Aldermen at their meeting on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution of sympathy

with the Lady Mayoress at the terrible bereavement she has just sustained . The Princess of Wales has very kindly consented to open a bazaar in aid of the funds of the North-Eastern Hospital for Childien , Hackney-road , on the 24 th of June next , at the City Terminus Hotel , Cannon-street . Bro . Malthouse , CC , has announced his

intention of resigning his seat at the Lambeth Vestry . Bro . Malthouse finds the hours of attendance inconvenient in regard to his numerous other business engagements . Bro . Sir M . E . Hicks-Beach , Bart ., M . P ., has so far recovered from his recent indisposition that he was able to be present' in his p lace in the House of Commons on Monday , when the sittings were resumed after the Easter

holidays . The Royal Commission for the Housing of the Working Classes resumed its sittings in London on Tuesday , when Bro . Sir Charles Dilke , Bart ., M . P ., presided as Chairman , and Bro . Lord Carrington , P . G . W ., was among the members present . A slieht improvement has taken place in the

health of Bro . Loveridge , who left London early in the present month for the purpose of spending Easter with a friend in the North of England , and was taken seriously ill during the journey . Bro . the Earl of Shaftesbury was to preside on Friday evening at a meeting in Exeter Hall of the Young

The Prince of Wales has announced his intention of opening in June next , the new buildings erected at at a cost of about £ 80 , 000 , in Queen-square , Bloomsbury , for the National Hospital for the Paralyzed and Epileptic The west block of the new hospital forms a memorial to the late Duke of Albany , P . Very many of the late Lord Mayor ' s engagements , such as the dinners to the Metropolitan Board of Works , the Judges , and the Bishops , and others will be carried out by his successor , Bro . Lord Mayor Fowler . Bro . the Rev . A . F . A . Woodford , P . G . Chap ., has kindly consented to give a lecture to Master Masons only at the Hyde Park Lodge of Instruction , 111 , Praedstreet , Paddington , W ., on Monday next , at 8 p . m .

At the meeting of the St . Martin ' s-Ie-Grand Lodge , No . 153 S , on the Sth inst ., Bro . G . Hatch , S . W ., was elected W . M . for the ensuing year , and Bro . Thos . J . Robertson , P . M ., was unanimously re-elected as Treasurer for the same period .

We have to offer our best congratulations to our worthy Bro . T . W . Cosburn Bush , on his recovery from his late serious illness . So serious was it that at one period his medical attendants had almost despaired of saving him j we are happy to know , however , that all cause for anxiety is now past .

Cox were among the members of the Commission of Sewers present at the usual fortnightl y meeting on Tuesday . A vote of condolence with the late Lord Mayor ' s family was passed unanimously .

The banquet which was to have been held on Thursday evening the 9 th inst ., to commemorate the inauguration of the Chancery Lane Safe Deposit Company , has been postponed for a short time . When it does take place Bro . Alderman Fowler , M . P ., will preside , as at first arranged , but in his new capacity of Lord Mayor .

Bro . Admiral Sir W . K . Hall , K . C . B ., presided on Wednesday , the Sth inst ., at a gathering in Exeter Hall of the senior members of the Metropolitan and Suburban Bands of Hope . The speeches were interspersed with performances by the Royal Holdfast Bell Ringers and the South London Temperance Prize Choir .

At the usual meeting on Thursday , the 9 th inst ., of the Royal Gloucester Lodge , No . 130 , Southampton , the sum of 20 guineas was voted to the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls , to be placed on the list of Bro . James Robertson , P . M ., who will act as Steward at the approaching Festival under R . W . Bro . Sir W . W . Burrell , Bart ., M . P ., P . G . M . Sussex .

The funeral of the late Lord Mayor will take place to-morrow ( Saturday ) in St . Paul ' s Cathedral . All the arrangements for the sad ceremony were promptly taken , the hour fixed for the cortege leaving the Mansion House being 11 a . m ., the Lord Mayor , Sheriffs , and other representatives of the Corporation and public bodies leaving the Guildhall half an hour previously .

A Common Hall of the City of London was held in the Guildhall on Tuesday under the presidency of Alderman Sir R . Garden , M . P ., for the purpose of electing a successor to Bro . Lord Mayor Nottage . The result was the election of Bro . Alderman Fowler , M . P ., G . J . W ., who will accordingly fulfil the duties of the Mayoralty during the remainder of what would have been Bro . Nottage ' s term of office .

At the annual meeting on Wednesday , the 8 th inst ., of the Longleat Lodge , No . 147 S , Warminster , Bro . Thomas * Reeves was installed W . The Masonic Ball by the Derwent Lodge , No . Hastings , in aid of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls , came off on Wednesday , the Sth inst ., in the RoysJ Concert Hall , St , Leonards , with a considerable amount ot success . The hall was well filled without being

overcrowded , and the Committee of Stewards appear to have done everything in their power to promote the comfort and pleasure of the guests . Bros . E . Bradnam , ( Mayor of Hastings ) , Sir Thomas Brassey , K . C . B ., M . P ., with Miss Brassey , and others , were present . Dancing was continued till a late hour .

The funeral of the late Lord Mayor will take place to-morrow ( Saturday ) in St . Paul ' s Cathedral . All the arrangements for the sad ceremony were promptly taken , the hour fixed for the cortege leaving the Mansion House being 11 a . m ., the Lord Mayor , Sheriffs , and other representatives of the Corporation and public bodies leaving the Guildhall half an hour previously .
