The fodge was opened , and after the confirmation of the minutes several candidates
were advanced in each of the Degrees , the ancient charge being delivered after the initiation ceremony . It was unanimously agreed to hold a second ball in connection with the lodge , the fixture last year proving such an unqualified success . A vote of sympathy was passed to Bro . Rudderforth , Stwd ., in his illness , and hearty wishes expressed for his speedy recovery . The lodge was closed and a choice banquet followed , which was served in the excellent style for which the restaurant is noted .
The usual toasts followed , including that of "The Grand Officers . " Bro . W . H . Bailey , G . Treas ., in reply , expressed his pride at being called upon to respond , for during his Mastership of the Fellowshi p Lodge he had the honour to be unanimously elected Grand Treasurer . He agreed with the VV . M . that the Grand Officers deserved the highest commendation , for their hearts were in their work , and the result was to be seen in the position Masonry occupied . It should at all times be a matter of quality and not quantity , for they were desirous of welcoming none but those
who would be an honour to the Craft , and he trusted that would always be their motto . He then proposed a toast specially dear to this lodge— "The Worshipful Master . " They had witnessed with gratification the excellent working of Bro . Roberts , W . M ., who undertook a very heavy task , but had perfornud it to the satisfaction of the members . He trusted the W . M . would continue his successful year and bs supported by the lodge , which was steadily growing , not onl y in the number of members , but in its Charitable expenditure . It was the W . M . ' s wish to represent the lodge for the Benevolent
Institution , so wisely and gracefully ruled by Bro . Terry , and he ( Bro . Bailey ) wjuld guarantee that 25 guineas should be voted from the lodge funds . There were few lodges that had done so much as that lodge for the Charitable Institutions . They did not boast of it , but looked back with pleasure on the fact that they could show a record which proved they were anxious to carry on the work of the Charities . They all wished the W . M . success , health , and happiness whilst he continued to rule over that flourishing lodge .
Bro . J . R . Roberts , P . M ., VV . M ., thanked the I . P . M . for his flattering remirks , and the brethren for the very gracious manner in which it was received . He found that after he had rendered two ceremonies that evening he began to flag , and the Three Degrees were , in fact , a little too much , so that he should probably ask a Past Master next time to perform one of the ceremonies . He felt it his bounden duty to give the charge after the initiation , as he thought every Master should do . If he had given them satisfaction it all he
was had endeavoured to do , and should continue to do so as long as he was their W . M . He had a difficult and up-hill task to satisfy a large lodge like that , and following a distinguished brother like the Grand Treasurer was no easy matter . His heart was in the work , and he would do all he could for the best interests of the lodge . " The Initiate " was next honoured , and suitably responded to .
Bro . J . 'lerry , P . G . S . B ., Sec . R . M . B . L , responded for" l ' he Masonic Charities , " and the brethren spontaneously subscribed a sum of / . ' 173 towards the W . M . ' s list for the Benevolent Institution . This amount included sums of 10 guineas from the W . M . anil Bros . Bailey , Welford , Terry , and J . Stephens . Other toasts , including " The Visitors , " were given before the Tyler ' s toast closed the meeting . Bro . Rubinstein , Org ., presided with his usual ability over the musicil irrangemjnts , and was as-. isted by Bios . Batho , Miles , and C Ortner .
