HARRINGTON . —Curwen Lodge ( No . 1400 ) . —The regular monthly meeting of this lodge was held on Wednesday , the 13 th inst ., when there was a large muster of members and visitors . Bro . L . Ward , VV . M ., presided , supported by his officers . The minutes of the former meeting were read and confirmed , and one candidate balloted for and accepted .
Bro . Ward then said that the brethren would be aware that one of their highly esteemed Past Masters , and one that had done good service to 1400 , was shortly about to bid them adieu for a foreign country , namely , Bro . James Batt ; and the members of the lodge , he was pleased to say , were not going to allow him to take his departure without some small token of their esteem , and , in the
names of the members of the Curwen Lodge , it gave him much pleasure to present Bro . Batt with a gold hunting watch , of especial make , and bearing the following inscription : — " Presented to Bro . James Batt , P . M ., by the Masonic brethren of Curwen Lodge , No . 1400 , Harrington , on his leaving England for British Columbia . January 13 th , 1 SS 6 . " He ( Bro . Ward ) hoped Bro . Batt would be long
spared to enjoy the present made , and the brethren of the Province of Cumberland and Westmorland would ever be glad to hear of his success when pursuing fortune ' s slippery ball in far-off lands . Bro . Batt , in feeling terms , briefly replied , thanking the members for their handsome and somewhat unexpected present , and said that each time he should look upon his
beautiful timekeeper , his fond recollections would ever be Harrington and 1400 . After a round of warm congratulations from the many present and other routine business , the lodge was closed in form , and the brethren adjourned to an excellent supper that had been provided for the occasion , where , with toasts and songs , a most harmonious evening was spent .

Atkins and H . Branch , of Lodge No . 1567 , were passed to the Degree of Fellow Craft . Bro . J . E . Sheffield was then invested with the collar of Steward , vice Bro . Stevens , resigned .
All Masonic business being ended , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to dinner , after which the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . In proposing the toast of "The Grand Officers , Present and Past , " the W . M . said that the Grand Officers were a body who were always willing to promote the best interests of the Craft . They were ably represented that evening in
Bro . Woodman , P . G . S . B ., who had done good suit and service to promote the welfare of the Order . It was now eleven years ago since he ( the VV . M . ) had had the pleasure of seeing H . _RlH . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., invest Bro . Woodman with the collar of his office in the Albert Hall , and Bro . Woodman had , by his untiring efforts in the cause of Freemasonry , fully proved himself worthy of
the important position he held . Bro . W . R . Woodman , P . G . S . B ., responded , and sincerely thanked the VV . M . and brethren for their hearty reception of the toast . The Grand Officers would always do their utmost to carry out the principles and tenets of the Order , and he hoped they would do so to the complete satisfaction of the brethren .
Bro . J . Osborn , P . M ., proposed the toast of "The W . M . " It was needless for him to attempt to eulogise their esteemed VV . Master , as the brethren were already so well aware of the competent manner in which he performed the duties of the chair . Bro . VV . H . Lee , VV . M ., thanked the brethren for the enthusiastic manner in which they had received the toast
and assured them that he would continue to exert himself to promote the welfare of the lodge and the comfort of the brethren . Bro . Bird , P . M ., in responding for " The Past Masters , " said that they all had the welfare of the Citadel Lodge at heart . He thanked them for their reception of the toast , and also the VV . M . for so kindly passing the two brethren
who were members of the Elliott Lodge . The toast of "The Officers" having been drunk and duly responded to , the Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a close . TJie musical arrangements , under the direction of Bro . Bayne , Organist , considerably enhanced the enjoyment of the evening .
KIRKBURTON . —Beaumont Lodge ( No . 2035 ) . —The usual monthly meeting was held at the lodge rooms , Royal Hotel , on Saturday afternoon , the 16 th inst . Bro . B . Stocks , VV . M ., occupied the chair , there being also present Bros . H . Shaw , S . W . ; VV . H . Cook , J . W . ; Rev . R . Collins , Chap . ; Cocking , S . D . ; Mitchell , J . D . ; Drummond , I . G . ; and E . Smith , P . M ., Treas . Several
visiting brethren from Lodges Nos . 652 and 521 were present . Mr . VV . H . Groves was duly initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry , the W . M . performing the ceremony in a most impressive manner . The working tools were explained by the J . W ., and Bro . W . Fitton , P . M ., delivered the charge . The Chaplain for the first time wore his surplice and hood , which very much enhanced the dignity of the
proceedings . The brethren afterwards sat down to a most excellent repast , when the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given . During the proceedings at the festive board the question of building a Masonic Hall in the village was raised , and the VV . M . promised that , so far as he was concerned , that desirable object would not rest until it was an accomplished fact . Several brethren promised to assist the W . M . in his endeavours to raise a suitable building .

Wilkinson ably officiated as W . M ., supported bv Pros . W . Button , S . W . ; _SkvuWer , J . W . ; . Garland , S . D . ; W . Wimble , J . D . ; S . J . Lampen , Treas . ' ; C . L . Tokeley , Sec . ; Thomas , I . G . ; Walter Martin , P . M ., Preceptor ; Ray , A . " I ' nscv , Webster , Smith , H . J . Amphlctt , Brielcy , and others . The minutes of the last meeting having been read and continued ,
the lodge was advanced to the Second Degree , when the ceremony of passing was rehearsed , Pro . Ray personating the candidate . Bro . Wilkinson then vacated the chair in favour of Pro . Skudder , and lodge was resumed to the First Degree , the ceremony of initiation being rehearsed , with Pro . Webster as candidate . After having been called from labour to refreshment , and 1 'ice -jersa , lodge was opened , and closed in the Third Degree ; and subsequently
it was proposed that Pro . Dutton shou'd occupy the chair at the next meeting , and officers were appointed in rotation . It was stated by the Preceptor that , judging from the progress that Pro . Dutton made in the science , a rich treat would be afforded to the members of the lodge at the next meeting , to which visitors will be cordially invited . The arrangements made by Bro . Pusey for the comfort and convenience of brethren residing south of the Thames elicited spontaneous and unqualified approbation .
FAITH LODGE ( No . 141 ) . —The weekly meeting was held on the 19 th inst ., at the Victoria Mansions , Victoria-street . The W . M ., Bro . W . H . Wilton , was supported by Bros . Maselield , S . W . ; Hales , J . W . _; Cottebmne , P . G . I ., Preceptor ; Cross , Sec ; Chapman , I . G . ; and Weeks . The lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Cross being the candidate . The
S . W . was unanimously elected W . M . for the next meeting , and appointed his officers in rotation . It was proposed , seconded , and carried unanimously , that a vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes to the W . _' M . for the able manner in which he bad performed his duties for the first time in the lodge . The W . M . returned thanks , and said he had hoped to have seen a stronger muster of the brethren . AH Masonic business being ended , the lodge was closed .
DOMAT 1 C LODGE ( No . 17 ;) . —The weeklv meeting of this lodge was held ac the Surrey Masonic Hall , Camberwell New-road , on Tuesday , the 12 th inst . D . ; T . Brady , I . G . ; and J . HiU , Preceptor ! The lodge was opened , and the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . The lodge was opened in the Second and Third Degrees , and resumed in the First . As the ceremony of passing was to be rehearsed , Bro . T . Brady gave proofs of pro .
hciency in the First Degree . The lodge was resumed in the Second Degree , and Bro . T . Brady , the candidate , was passed through the Second Degree ceremony . The charge was given by Bro . R . Rowlands , and the explanation of the tracing board by Bro . H . Buckeridge . Several questions regarding the ceremony being asked by the members present , the Preceptor gave them full explanations and answers . The lodge was closed in the Second Degree . Pro . T . Brady , who is the Secretary of the Duke of Connaught Lodge of Instruction , No . 1588 , was p ' roposed and seconded as a member . He was pleased to be admitted , and would attend as regularly as circumstances permitted . The lodge was then closed .

Anderson then proposed "The Health of Bro . Birdseye , " expressing the great pleasure it afforded him and the other brethren in Bro , Birdseye presiding over them that evening , as he had always taken such a very lively interest in the lodge during the last twenty years , and had , during * that time , rendered most valuable assistance to Pro . Muggeridge in carrying out its working .
The toast was replied to by Bro . Birdseye . In proposing the next toast , " The Henry Muggeridge Lodge , " Pro . Birdseye alluded in very- kind terms to the great services rendered by Pro ; Muggeridge to the lodge of instruction during the last forty-eight years ( for upwards of thirty-four of which he had acted as Preceptor ) , and expressed his deep sorrow and regret at Bro . Muggeridge's serious illness , which deprived the members of the pleasure of having him amongst them that evening , and hoped that
the Henry Muggeridge Lodge , which bore his name , would prosper . The _topst was replied to by Pro . Alfred Sach , P . M . of the _H--nry Muggeridge Lodge . The toast of "The Visitors" was then given and replied to , which brought a very enjoyable evening to an end . During the toasts some very good songs were sung bv Bros . Charles , Dyball , Green , Birdseye , and Brooks , and recitations given bv Pros Corbett and Mann .

HARRINGTON . —Curwen Lodge ( No . 1400 ) . —The regular monthly meeting of this lodge was held on Wednesday , the 13 th inst ., when there was a large muster of members and visitors . Bro . L . Ward , VV . M ., presided , supported by his officers . The minutes of the former meeting were read and confirmed , and one candidate balloted for and accepted .
Bro . Ward then said that the brethren would be aware that one of their highly esteemed Past Masters , and one that had done good service to 1400 , was shortly about to bid them adieu for a foreign country , namely , Bro . James Batt ; and the members of the lodge , he was pleased to say , were not going to allow him to take his departure without some small token of their esteem , and , in the
names of the members of the Curwen Lodge , it gave him much pleasure to present Bro . Batt with a gold hunting watch , of especial make , and bearing the following inscription : — " Presented to Bro . James Batt , P . M ., by the Masonic brethren of Curwen Lodge , No . 1400 , Harrington , on his leaving England for British Columbia . January 13 th , 1 SS 6 . " He ( Bro . Ward ) hoped Bro . Batt would be long
spared to enjoy the present made , and the brethren of the Province of Cumberland and Westmorland would ever be glad to hear of his success when pursuing fortune ' s slippery ball in far-off lands . Bro . Batt , in feeling terms , briefly replied , thanking the members for their handsome and somewhat unexpected present , and said that each time he should look upon his
beautiful timekeeper , his fond recollections would ever be Harrington and 1400 . After a round of warm congratulations from the many present and other routine business , the lodge was closed in form , and the brethren adjourned to an excellent supper that had been provided for the occasion , where , with toasts and songs , a most harmonious evening was spent .

In proposing the toast of "The Grand Officers , Present and Past , " the W . M . said that the Grand Officers were a body who were always willing to promote the best interests of the Craft . They were ably represented that evening in
Bro . Woodman , P . G . S . B ., who had done good suit and service to promote the welfare of the Order . It was now eleven years ago since he ( the VV . M . ) had had the pleasure of seeing H . _RlH . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., invest Bro . Woodman with the collar of his office in the Albert Hall , and Bro . Woodman had , by his untiring efforts in the cause of Freemasonry , fully proved himself worthy of
the important position he held . Bro . W . R . Woodman , P . G . S . B ., responded , and sincerely thanked the VV . M . and brethren for their hearty reception of the toast . The Grand Officers would always do their utmost to carry out the principles and tenets of the Order , and he hoped they would do so to the complete satisfaction of the brethren .
Bro . J . Osborn , P . M ., proposed the toast of "The W . M . " It was needless for him to attempt to eulogise their esteemed VV . Master , as the brethren were already so well aware of the competent manner in which he performed the duties of the chair . Bro . VV . H . Lee , VV . M ., thanked the brethren for the enthusiastic manner in which they had received the toast
and assured them that he would continue to exert himself to promote the welfare of the lodge and the comfort of the brethren . Bro . Bird , P . M ., in responding for " The Past Masters , " said that they all had the welfare of the Citadel Lodge at heart . He thanked them for their reception of the toast , and also the VV . M . for so kindly passing the two brethren
who were members of the Elliott Lodge . The toast of "The Officers" having been drunk and duly responded to , the Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a close . TJie musical arrangements , under the direction of Bro . Bayne , Organist , considerably enhanced the enjoyment of the evening .

visiting brethren from Lodges Nos . 652 and 521 were present . Mr . VV . H . Groves was duly initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry , the W . M . performing the ceremony in a most impressive manner . The working tools were explained by the J . W ., and Bro . W . Fitton , P . M ., delivered the charge . The Chaplain for the first time wore his surplice and hood , which very much enhanced the dignity of the
proceedings . The brethren afterwards sat down to a most excellent repast , when the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given . During the proceedings at the festive board the question of building a Masonic Hall in the village was raised , and the VV . M . promised that , so far as he was concerned , that desirable object would not rest until it was an accomplished fact . Several brethren promised to assist the W . M . in his endeavours to raise a suitable building .

S . W . was unanimously elected W . M . for the next meeting , and appointed his officers in rotation . It was proposed , seconded , and carried unanimously , that a vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes to the W . _' M . for the able manner in which he bad performed his duties for the first time in the lodge . Rowlands , and the explanation of the tracing board by Bro . H . Buckeridge . Several questions regarding the ceremony being asked by the members present , the Preceptor gave them full explanations and answers . The lodge was closed in the Second Degree . Pro . T . Brady , who is the Secretary of the Duke of Connaught Lodge of Instruction , No . 1588 , was p ' roposed and seconded as a member . Birdseye , " expressing the great pleasure it afforded him and the other brethren in Bro , Birdseye presiding over them that evening , as he had always taken such a very lively interest in the lodge during the last twenty years , and had , during * that time , rendered most valuable assistance to Pro . Muggeridge in carrying out its working .
The toast was replied to by Bro . Birdseye . In proposing the next toast , " The Henry Muggeridge Lodge , " Pro . Birdseye alluded in very- kind terms to the great services rendered by Pro ; Muggeridge to the lodge of instruction during the last forty-eight years ( for upwards of thirty-four of which he had acted as Preceptor ) , and expressed his deep sorrow and regret at Bro . Muggeridge's serious illness , which deprived the members of the pleasure of having him amongst them that evening , and hoped that
the Henry Muggeridge Lodge , which bore his name , would prosper . The _topst was replied to by Pro . Alfred Sach , P . M . of the _H--nry Muggeridge Lodge . The toast of "The Visitors" was then given and replied to , which brought a very enjoyable evening to an end . During the toasts some very good songs were sung bv Bros .
