WOOLWICH . —Florence Nightingale Lodge ( No . 44 ) . —The installation meeting of the above lodge took place on Thursday , the 14 th instant , at the Masonic Hall , William-street , " when Bro . F . G . Nichols , W . M . elect and P . P . G . Org . Kent , vvas duly installed Master for the ensuing twelve months . The lodge was opened by Bro . E . Denton , W . M . and P . G . S . O . Kent , and the usual
preliminaries having been transacted , Bro . Capt . Eugene Sweney , P . M . and P . P . J . G . W . Kent , presented Bro . Nichols to the W . M ., to receive at his hands the benefits of installation . Bro . Denton immediately proceeded to the duties of his important office , and in due course placed Bro . Nichols in the chair of A ., when and where he was saluted in due form . He appointed and invested his officers as
follows * . Bros . J . I . Birch , S . W . j C . E . Birch , J . W . j Rev . C . Solbe , Chap . j A . Burnett , M . O . j H . Mason , S . O . j J . H . Roberts , J . O . j Capt . Sweny , P . finished a most impressive ceremony . A handsome and valuable Past Mark Master ' s jewel vvas presented to Bro . Denton for services rendered , and to mark the esteem of the brethren , and it was further resolved " That a vote of thanks be presented to him for the admirable manner in which he had installed his successor , the same to be inserted on the minutes of the lodge , " for these and all
other mercies Bro . Denton duly returned thanks . Bro . Denton having announced his intention of standing as Steward at the forthcoming Mark Benevolent Institution Festival , five guineas vvere voted to his list from the funds of the lodge , vvhich sum , we are happy to say , vvas

Kentj W . Moulds , J . VV . 226 , P . P . G . I . G . Kentj and C . Jolly , Reg . of Marks 226 , P . P . G . O . Kentj and others . The Worshipful Master , in giving the toast of "The Queen and Mark Masonry , " said this vvas especially the
year when every Mason should show his devotion to the Queen . It marked the fiftieth year of her reign over her loyal and faithful subjects , and he asked them to drink the toast vvith all the heartiness it deserved j and it vvas drunk with honours . The next toast vvas that of " The Grand Mark Masterof England and Wales and the Colonies and Dependencies
of the British Crown , " and , in proposing it , the Worshipful Master said he had no doubt that every Mark Mason wished from his heart that their distinguished brother and Master might have long life and every happiness on earth . The toast of "The Earl of Kintore , Deputy Grand Master , and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and
Past , followed , the Worshipful Master saying that he had the pleasure of seeing the Earl install their Grand Master , a work he did splendidly , and not only he , but the vvhole ot the officers vvere deserving of their hearty suffrages . The Worshipful Master then proposed " The Prov . G . Mark Master of Kent , Bro . the Rev . Thomas Robinson , M . A ., " and in so doing eulogised the zeal and ablility of
that distinguished brother , vvho had perhaps done more for Mark Masonry , especially in the province , than anyone . However , Bro . Robinson needed not eulogies from him , so he would ask them to drink his health vvith a good fire , and it vvas so . " Bro . Hayman Cummings , M . A ., D . P . G . M ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " vvere next
honoured . Bro . Denton , in response , said it vvas a great honour to hold officein such a province and under such Masters as Bros . Robinson and Cummings . He then gave a resumdoi the progress of Mark Masonry in the province , remarking that in 1 SS 0 there vvere only six Mark lodges in it , now there were sixteen , and the following week would see a new one
consecrated at Ashford , the fiist Master of vvhich would be their distinguished Bro . Eastes , D . P . G . M . of Craft Masonry in the province . He congratulated the W . M . on his attaining his high position so quietly , and felt sure that his year would be a good one lor the lodge . Bro . Coupland also responded , and as a Past Grand Officer , vvas delighted at the prosperity of the Florence
Nightingale Lodge , and had no doubt that it would have its share of grand honours in due course . It vvas difficult to speak after such a good Mason as Bro . Denton , so he would conclude by thanking them for their courtesy to the Prov . Grand Officers . Bro . Denton then rose to propose "The Health of the W . M ., " and in so doing said it vvas to him a very pleasant
duty , because he had watched their W . M ., both in his Craft and Mark duties , and always found him proficient in both . He trusted that he might be blessed vvith health and strength to carry out his duties , and that he might be heartily supported by the brethren . He again congratulated him upon attaining his present proud position , and wished him a good year of office , and concluded by asking
the brethren to drink the toast in bumpers . The W . M ., vvho vvas warmly cheered on rising , said he thanked them most heartily for the very cordial expression of their good will conveyed to him in their reception of the toast . It would help him in his endeavours to carry out his duties to his and their satisfaction . He had always worked upwards , and his promotion had been very rapid ,
at least , two more years work he had expected before attaining the chair . He should endeavour to render the ritual in such a manner as to be worthy of the lodge . Bro . Denton had spoken very kindly of his exertions , both in the Mark and Craft , and he could only say that the same zeal , and he trusted ability , would mark his career as master of that important and ancient lodge . He looked forward vvith high hopes to make it second to none in the
province of Kent , both for its numbers , and its ability to carry out the duties , and maintain the prestige of a name so honoured as that of its honoured prototype " Florence Nightingale . " The other toasts were those of "The Past Masters , " " The Installing Officer , " " The Visitors , " " The Officers , " "The Masonic Press , " and Tyler ' s toast . The vvhole affair vvas a real Masonic treat , and much enjoyed by all privileged to be present .

O . j Capt . Sweny , P . Bro . Denton then splendidly recited the charge , and
finished a most impressive ceremony .
Bro . Denton having announced his intention of standing as Steward at the forthcoming Mark Benevolent Institution Festival , five guineas vvere voted to his list from the funds of the lodge , vvhich sum , we are happy to say , vvas
considerably augmented by the subscriptions of the brethren present . Letters of regret at inability to attend were read from the Provincial Grand and Deputy Grand Masters , and also from Bro . Matier , Assistant Grand Secretary j and several propositions for joining and other members having been received , the lodge vvas closed according to ancient
custom . The banquet , which was admirably served by Bro . W Moulder , of the Duke of Connaught , vvas laid in the hall , and among the other brethren present were Bros . C . Coup-
