AL ; Jno . Lane , P . AL , P . P . G . Reg . ; and F . E . Re . nfry , W . AL 1529 , P . P . G . P . South Wales
( W . D . ) Ihe lodge was opened , and the minutes of the last and emergency meetings were read and confirmed . Bro . Chapman then gave an interesting summary of Alasonic events in connection with Freemasonry in general and the lodge in particular for the year 1 SS 9 . The indefatigable Secretary read his review in regular order . 1 he Grand Lodge of
England , under the direction of its distinguished ruler , H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , AI . W . G . AL . had made rapid progress . One important event had been the recognition of the Grand Lodge of Victoria , which had removed a number of lodges from the roll of the Grand Lodge ; yet there are still nearly 2000 lodges flourishing under its jurisdiction , 43 of which had been added during the year . The great
Central Chanties had obtained a rair amount of support , the three Institutions receiving' nearly £ 50 , 000 in all , the private and provincial charities being also well maintained . Masonic literature compared favourably with that of previous years . In the report of the ' -Quatuor Coronati , No . 20 7 6 , ' it was stated that 20 " books had been issued by the members and "
Correspondence Circle" of that distinguished lodge . In Ireland his Grace the Duke of Abercorn , M . W . G . M ., continues to rule over that constitution with geniality and success . His efforts are ably seconded in promoting the interests of the Irish Alasonic Charities . Scotland , during the year , has been under happy and prosperous circumstances and , although like England , has lost some of its lodges
through the formation of the Grand Lodge of Victoria , yet it holds up its head well , and is proud to see its offspring- able to walk unassisted . In America , under the "Stars and Stripes , " the progress of the Craft may be noted with unmixed pleasure ; and in Canada , too , he ( Bro . Chapman ) was happy to say there is unmistakably a very bright and happy future . In India the benign influence of Freemasonry
is rapidly removing the blight which caste has for centuries cursed that populated part of the world . In Bombay was witnessed the grandest Alasonic gathering ever held in that presidency , when H . R . H . the Dukeof Connaught , P . G . W ., Dist . G . AL , was appointed Honorary Past Grand Master of all Scottish Freemasonry in India ; various shades of caste and religion happily blended upon that occasion , under the
banner of Freemasonry . Australia is also making rapid Masonic strides , and during the past year the Grand Lodge of Victoria has been fully recognised by our Grand Lodge . Passing from events in general to those of the lodge in particular , it is gratifying to be able to record its conspicuous vitality . We believe there never has been so many successful Alasonic efforts crowded into the proceedings of our '
lodge in any preceding year of its history . 'The first item of interest was the conferring of honorary membership upon Bro . Alfred Greenham , P . AI . 1 SS 4 , and originator of the Shanklin Masonic Exhibition . 'The lodge will not soon forget the able and eloquent speech in which that zealous brother expressed his appreciation of the honour , and his gratification upon receiving the framed certificate of
membership duly presented to him . lhe delivery of Alasonic lectures must also be noted ; one on "an old 3 ° tracing board and an old lecture on the Degree" was by Bro . | . Chapman , another by the highly esteemed Bro . VV . "j . Hughan , P . G . D . England— " A glance at Freemasonry during the last live centuries " —and a third by Bro . Jno . Lane— ' ¦ On some ancient Masonic obligations and modes
of recognition " —making three interesting and instructive discourses . 'The formation of the Iodge library is an event of more than passing interest ; the appointment of the able Bro . Jno . Taylor , J . W ., as Librarian , and the opening of the library with some 100 volumes ( many of them rare and valuable ) , being one of the happy events of the year , which will doubtless provide needful stimulus to the brethren . The remark-able distinction that the Jordan Lodge has attained
during the year in the literary efforts of three of its members is almost unique . With the exception of the literary lodge ( Quatuor Coronati ) , he ( the Secretary ) was not aware ot any lodge where three of its members had each published a work on Freemasonry during the year save in No . 1402 , Bros . Hughan , Lane , and Chapman having thus achieved that distinction . 'The new engraved plate for the circulars having the valley of the river Jordan depicted

thereon , has been pronounced a most faithful representation , and a valuable work of art . 'The financial state of the Iodge under the management of our excellent Treasurer , Bro . John Dodge , P . P . G . T ., is in a most flourishing condition . The Alasonic Charities have been amply supported , both cential and provincial , the contributions to which have given the lodge a voting power it may well be proud of . In
addition , the Benevolent fund of the lodge has been dispensed in a liberal and unstinted manner , to meet the pressing needs of the poor widows and orphans of our deceased brethren . There were 16 meetingduring the year , with an average attendance of 26 members , a statement proving the deep interest the brethren have taken in
Freemasonry . There are now 50 subscribing members . In closing this condensed review of the events of the past year , " let us express our gratitude to the G . A . O . T . U . for favours already received ; may he continue to preserve our lodge , cementing and adorning its members with every moral and social virtue . " 'The thanks of the Iodge were given to thc esteemed Secretary for his able review , and after an interesting address from Bro . Remfrey , W . AL , 1529 , the lodge was closed .
URMSTON Urmston Lodge ( No . 1720 ) . —The installation of Bro . G . A . Myers , S . VV ., VV . M . elect , took place , and the festival of St . John was celebrated at the Victoria Hotel on Monday , the 13 th inst . 'The Auditor ' s report was submitted and adopted ;
the lodge being in a very satisfactory financial position , having a considerable balance in the bank , and not a single liability . The VV . M . spoke in the highest terms of the great ability and indefatigable energy displayed by the Treasurer , Bro . E . L . Littler , P . P . G . P ., as it was mainly due to his great exertions that such a satisfactory result had been obtained . Bro . li . L . Littler was re-elected Charity
representative for the ensuing year . The chair was taken by Bro . William Goodacre , P . G . S . B ., P . G . Secretary , as Installing Master , who appointed the following distinguished brethren as Installing Officers : Bros . I . Slyman , P . P . G . D ., as S . W . j VV . Webster , P . P . G . D ., as J . VV . ; and E . L ! Littler , P . P . G . P , as I . G . Bro . S . A . Myers was presented to the Installing Alaster by Bro . G . R .
Lloyd , W . AL , and after the usual formula was inducted into the chair of K . S ., who invested the l . P . AL , who was addressed by Bro . Heaton , P . AL The working tools were presented by Bro . K . L . Littler , and the officers for the ensuing year were invested by the W . M ., the respective addresses being delivered by Bros . G . R . Lloyd , J . Slyman , and T . VV . Bone , P . AL The addresses to the Alaster and
Wardens were delivered by Bro . VV . Goodacre . lt will be seen by all our readers from the above talented brethren who took part in the ceremony we have frequently had occasion to speak of the high merits of each individually , we shall content ourselves on this occasion by observing that the whole proceedings , from the commencement to the finish , was an example worthy to be copied .
The lodge business being concluded , the hospitality of the brethren was testified by an elegant banquet which had been prepared by Bro . John Walton , the proprietor . The tables were profusely decorated with ferns and flowers , which gave the banqueting hall a very brilliant appearance . The W . AL , in giving the toast of "The Oueen , " said her Alajesty ' s virtues were so well known to ~ the brethren
that it was quite unnecessary to enumerate them . 'The other loyal toasts were given and responded to . Bro . G . R . Lloyd , l . P . AL , next proposed "The Health of thc W . M ., " and said that evening they had a VV . AI . who was thoroughly a child of the lodge , he being initiated directly after the consecration of the lodge in 1 S 7 S , and from that moment he had been one of them , and it was an
immense pleasure to see him installed into the chair he so worthily filled that evening . Every office he had filled he had done with credit to himself and honour to the lodge , and he hoped the brethren would do all they possibly could to support him in his office , and wished him a very happy and prosperous year . 'The W . AL , in reply , said that during the year he should
occupy the chair in the lod ge he need not tell them he should do his utmost to maintain the high reputation the Urmston Lodge had always held b y carrying out the duties of Alaster to the best of his ability , and he would do his best to hand over the character that had been entrusted to him that evening unsullied to his successor .
Other toasts followed , which were briefly but heartily responded to . During thc evening a handsome Past Alaster ' s jewel was presented to Bro . G . R . Lloyd , l . P . AL , which was accepted with a most graceful reply . The above jewel was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , of Manchester and London .
Bro . Alderman Sir James Whitehead , Bart ., has caused it to be made known that there is no truth whatever in the report that he is a candidate for the position of Alderman of the London County Council . 'The Prince of Wales , who has returned from his visit to
Lord Wimborne in Dorsetshire , the Princess of VVales , and the I rincesses Victoria and Aland , are staying at Sandi in « --liam , among the guests on a visit to their Royal Highnesses being the Russian and Danish Ambassadors and Bro . Lord Charles Beresford .
Dr . Nathan Adler , who was installed Chief Rabbi of the united Jewish congregation of the British Empire as far back as 1845 , died at Brighton early on 'Tuesday morning in the SSth year of his age . It is expected that he will be succeeded by his son , Dr . Hermann Adler , who has acted for his father and borne the title of Delegate Chief Rabbi for the last 10 years . 'The deceased Rabbi was held in the highest respect by men of all classes and religious sects .

( W . D . ) Ihe lodge was opened , and the minutes of the last and emergency meetings were read and confirmed .

URMSTON Urmston Lodge ( No . 1720 ) . —The installation of Bro . G . A . Myers , S . VV ., VV . M . elect , took place , and the festival of St . 'The Auditor ' s report was submitted and adopted ;
the lodge being in a very satisfactory financial position , having a considerable balance in the bank , and not a single liability . The VV . M . spoke in the highest terms of the great ability and indefatigable energy displayed by the Treasurer , Bro . E .
