It is rumoured that tho post of Ambassador at St . Petersburg , rendered vacant by the dea ' . h of Sir Robert Morier , will , in all probability , be offered to Sir Pnilip Currie , Permanent Under-Secretary of State fir Foreign Affairs .

Bro . Douse replied to the toast of "The Initiate" in a neat speech . Bro . J . W . Clarke , in responding to " The Health of the Master elect , " said that he felt gratified at beini elected to fill the chair in his mother lodge . The responsibility svas a sveighty one , but , svith the assistance of the strong body of Past Masters , he hoped to discharge the duties

satisfactorily . Bro . John Smith ' s year hail been a highly prosperous and happy one , and he trusted that his ( the speaker's ) svould be if possible , cvjn more so . Bros . K . Eales and G . Edwin Broadbent , svho went through that long lecture in fullest detail , svithout a single Ihiv or falter , after svhich the follosving parts of thc sections arising out of ihe lecture svere severally defined by

the W . M . and ofiicers , viz : Faith , Hope , Charity , Brothel ly Love , Relief , Truth , 'Temperance , Fortitude , Prudence , Justice , Virtue , Honour , and Mercy . Part of Section ll ., Second Lecture — "The Creation , " svas th-in given by one of the Past Masters . The svorking of the sections is practised in this lodge , but to some of the visitors it svas quite a novelty , and svith svhich they expressed themselves much pleased .

Provincial Meetings.

Early in the evening a Secretary ' s jesvel svas presented to Bro . Edsvin Broadbent , P . M ., Secretary . The VV . M ., in making the presentation , said that all those svho had served as Worshipful Masters of Prince Edward Lodge had continued aftersvards to interest and exert themselves to advance the credit and svelfare of the lodire . Still , some had undoubtedly taken a srreater share of the svork than

others , both in lodge and library . No one , hosvever , had or could have done more than Bro . Broadbent , svhose many valuable services they desired to acknosvledge , and that , svere a vote taken on the subject , he svould be acknosvledged a most popular , valued , and esteemed brother . Indeed , the jesvel now offered svas in itself such a vote , as it svas

subscribed to by every member of the lodge , and svhose love and esteem it svas inteneled to convey to the recipient . The minutes contained votes to several Masonic Charities , viz .: Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , , ( , ' , and £ ¦ 5 5 s to each of the three West Lancashire Masonic Charities .

Dobie Lodge ( No . 8 S 9 ) . —On the 15 th instant there was but a small attendance of members at the Kingston Hotel , svhere the meetings are in future to be held , and of svhich house liro . G . A distressing case svas brought to the notice of the brethren as they svere socially engaged of the svidow of a railsvay guard , svho is losing her sight , and thus rendered incapable of sso . kinir . for he * r children , and thc sum of 24 s . The svorking of the sections is practised in this lodge , but to some of the visitors it svas quite a novelty , and svith svhich they expressed themselves much pleased .

Provincial Meetings.

Early in the evening a Secretary ' s jesvel svas presented to Bro . Edsvin Broadbent , P . M ., Secretary . The VV . M ., in making the presentation , said that all those svho had served as Worshipful Masters of Prince Edward Lodge had continued aftersvards to interest and exert themselves to advance the credit and svelfare of the lodire . Still , some had undoubtedly taken a srreater share of the svork than

others , both in lodge and library . No one , hosvever , had or could have done more than Bro . Broadbent , svhose many valuable services they desired to acknosvledge , and that , svere a vote taken on the subject , he svould be acknosvledged a most popular , valued , and esteemed brother . Indeed , the jesvel now offered svas in itself such a vote , as it svas

subscribed to by every member of the lodge , and svhose love and esteem it svas inteneled to convey to the recipient .
